I wanted to try it, but the cable crack doesn't work on my setup (the quality is unlistenably bad unless I crank the sample buffer WAY up, which makes the processing lag far too bad to play on) and my autism is keeping me from dropping $30 on a cheapo ADC that's significantly worse than the audio interface I already own. Oh well.
>$30 on a cheapo ADC
Meant the official cable. I really need to get some sleep.
Can't you use the audio interface with it if you're playing on PC?
From someone who actually plays guitar:
Rocksmith is NOT a good way to learn. The habits you'll pick up from Rocksmith will be much more detrimental to you in the long run should you really decide to pursue guitar as a hobby.
If you really want to learn how to play guitar, there are a plethora of online resources to help you do it. The /gg/ thread on Sup Forums lists a ton. You're better off buying a cheap guitar and fucking around without any resources at all than you are playing Rocksmith.
>The /gg/ thread on Sup Forums
>Shitpoting all day about some brazilian fuck
I already know how to play guitar I just made this thread to escape the burning hell that /gg/ is.
I think the /gg/ thread in general sucks, but the links in the OP are locally available for anyone who wants them, and they aren't bad.
That's the point of the cable crack, it tricks the game into thinking your chosen interface is the official cable. It's still more or less expecting your interface to behave like the genuine article though, so it can get rather picky and I got the short end of the stick.
>watch a youtubefag instead!
Yes, it does. Most importantly it makes practicing fun therefore prolonging motivation and working faster.
>watch a youtubefag instead!
Who are you quoting? Because it isn't me.
>Yes, it does.
No, it doesn't.
>Post main axe
>Be judged by other anons
Do your worst, Sup Forums
Yes, it does faggot.
why are there so may guitarists who can't read notation? Like I know tab is used alot but what the fuck are you even doing?
>played guitar
>it didn't actually help me get laid
>go back to playing video games with cute girls
Don't fall for the guitar meme.
No but GOD DAMN is it a jam when you’re drunk
>tfw can't read notation and don't like using tabs
Learning by ear is the superior method
What in the wtf is that
youtube.com
If you think whatever skill you've picked up from Rocksmith is any better than this link, I implore you to post something and show me.
Rocksmith teaches bad habits, poor technique, no theory. You don't learn how to play guitar, you learn how to emulate songs.
There's no point if you're just going to play rock music at home.
Reading music notation is great if you want to be a part of anything that has other instruments that aren't drums/bass whatever. But you're just playing to yourself it doesn't really matter.
>What in the wtf
Wow! You certainly took a debate course in some university slugger!
I'll take that as you realizing Rocksmith can't teach shit and giving up.
You clearly know exactly what you're talking about my dude
And you clearly don't.
Slugger?! Learn when to take the W you breadth of wisdom, you.
I have to agree with this. I don't know how to play guitar, I fell for the Rocksmith meme and I still don't know how to play the damn guitar.
>It's more complicated than Guitar Hero and my attention span isn't long enough
Rocksmith is literally a more complicated Guitar Hero, though, not a means of learning how to play guitar.
I never played Guitar Hero. All I know is if you think you're going to learn to play guitar with Rocksmith you'd better already know what the fuck you're doing because Rocksmith isn't going to teach you anything but how to pick notes in time with a song.
>why are there so may guitarists who can't read standard notation?
Lol "standard" notation started as tablature for piano.
>why are there so may guitarists who can't read piano tablature?
Hmm, phrased like that it kind of answers itself.
>Rocksmith isn't going to teach you anything but how to pick notes in time with a song
>Implying this isn't how you learn
I meant that literally. My experience with Rocksmith had me picking single notes and then suddenly it thinks you know what you're doing and switches to chords and everything is just fucked.
So learn the fucking chords. It isnt that hard.
Man there's so many tools to help make learning the guitar easy it kinda devalues it. That's my main thing killing my motivation atm. I feel like once I'm finally good 10 years from now, every other person will know how to play guitar and it won't be impressive or interesting at all.
So learn the banjo. Nobody else is learning that instrument.
justinguitar.com
I find it helped me lead, yeah, a lot fun doing it
Don't strictly use that though, get an amp wind up the neighbours, they have earned it
Had her since 2008. I'm glad I have her but don't play as much as I used to. Never thought I'd be the person that let's their guitar collect dust, but here I am. :/
>Ibanez Edge tremolo
You need to replace that with a Floyd Rose ASAP.
isn't that the fake les paul I saw in gg earlier
It teaches you to play songs and if that's all you want then go for it. Learning about music theory and how the guitar works is better though because it's a gateway to other instruments as well. But hey if you wanna be that guy who can only play Wonderwall be my guest.
>that kid who fc'd every song back when it was a huge deal got a bunch of "learn to play real guitar!!" comments
>learns how to play Crazy Train on real guitar in a week and has been playing ever since
It has modes for all the basics. It has practice modes for all the practice you need and all the scales, and makes mini-games out of them. All you have to do is place your fingers and strum at the right time. Now, yes. That one guy saying that without guidance it can make you learn "wrong" but you can still learn guitar and as for OP's original question it is a great "help".
Dude you don't even know what you're doing as far as the game mechanics go, let alone guitar. You can customize everything to your playstyle.
...
not that guy but floyds can suck my dick. then again i love alternate tunings too much so i'm biased
>Not having a different guitar for each tuning
Floyds stop being a hassle when you get enough money to make this a reality.
>You don't learn how to play guitar, you learn how to emulate songs.
I mean, all I want to do is play along with my tunes. I've already given up on singing and attracting potential mates.
>I've already given up on singing and attracting potential mates
Haven't we all
If you're learning an instrument to be cool and impressive when you're good at it, you're learning it for the wrong reason.
Singing is fun, try playing acoustic chords of a song you know and sing along. I find it calming.
My main axe is a replica of the one on the right.
Someday I might get an SG.
By "replica" you mean you tried to make one, you butchered it and that's what you try to play with, or did you actually get a Brian May guitar?
And if so how much are they?
Ay, at least it isn't like an edge 3 or something. This trem never did me wrong.
Most guitar players don't know any theory. And what poor technique does it teach?
I never managed to get it fucking working decently and I gave up, even with an original cable and a good pc.
Learning guitar wasnt for me anyway
What if he just made a Red Special.
I actually just picked up a cheap guitar to compliment drumming and potentially write rhythms or something. But since I have practically no experience, I usually just ptactics drums when I feel like being musical. Even having had rock smith for a short time, I could never remember the fucking chords
no, because every other faggot is like you and will make excuses not to learn. "guitar made easy" is also a tagline used to sucker people out of money
>Ibanez Gio
Vomit
the body is sexy and the finish mostly matches my drumset(though both look pretty much black in the pic). its not like ill ever use it for more than practice, if that
Legend says drummer hands are too small for guitar and that's why they can never play strings
There are kids playing full scale guitars just fine.
Though the retardedness of hand positions for certain chords is part of what drove me away from learning guitar
the Duke has been my favorite controller since 5th grade. my hands feel fine on the guitar, i just dont know where to put them to make it not sound like shit
How true is it that drummers are retarded cunts
Did this videogame ACTUALLY help you learn Japanese, Sup Forums?
im not the drummer guy, stupid guitarist :)
It helps a little but it isn't a substitute for real lessons.
It does make practicing fun, but probably shouldn't be your sole learning source.
in my experience with other drummers, it's not entirely unfounded.
stereotypes exist for a reason, but to generalize is to be a nigger
It's helping a lot. 30 hours in so far and I feel so much more comfortable with sight reading, orientation on the frets as well as individual strings and enough chords that I can pick up the majority of simpler songs right away. I'd love to know of these poor habits people were using as an argument against it.
>Learn Japanese with a videogame
>Did it actually help?
Fug, please answer this. I'm looking for a Rom right now.
Michel Thomas audio books. That and simply learning kana off of a chart got me very far before I got tired of it. genkijapan used to be a good resource, but it apparently got reformatted to sell a book.
It helps a lot with muscle memory and even learning chords by name and sound with the minigames. But outside the game its hard for me to remember a song. It definitely needs something else outside the game.
No game will ever teach you how to play an instrument. Playing an instrument will teach you to play an instrument.
I got a Brian May guitar. There are two versions.
Brian May built his own guitar because he was too poor to buy one, so he's priced his guitars similarly. The base model is 700ish and sounds pretty much spot on for the original.
It has a few inaccuracies (different trem system and different volume knobs) but you can mod the knobs easily.
Then there's the premium version which is a spot for spot exact replica, which is a few thousand and has a waiting list
but the controller IS an instrument :^)
kinda no better load a handful of youtube videos
>Brian May built his own guitar because he was too poor to buy one, so he's priced his guitars similarly
...
Never played Rocksmith but Guitar Hero 2 inspired me to start playing and my life has changed ever since
what's good guitarbros, here's my babygirl
the gio is the last of his concerns just look at that disgusting line 6 JUST LOOK AT tHAT!
>Gretsch
Kill yourself but only ironically
Any bass-bro's lurking this thread?
Nigger i specifically stated the guitar is a cheap afterthought to my interest in music. the amp has 3 distortions, and some effects, and thats more than ill ever need or use
I use a Rogue Rocketeer. I overpaid for it and after so long the frets are coming up and shredding my index finger on slides, but it sounds nice and has been very reliable.
God tier taste
>tfw want a 12 string phantom but it would be expensive as fuck to import one
this is a goddamn lie you fuck
what's your beef with Gretsch? They make a decent guitar for a good price, it isn't a stupid shape, and it looks great. This is one of the chink Gretsches but it only cost me $280 and it plays nice.
Its actually helped me a hell of a lot more than trying to teach myself. I just wish I had the motivation to keep going. I still pick up the guitar every week and noodle but I just cant find the motivation to get where I want to. Its been like 2 years since I started and I just cant get myself to do it.
Yes, actually. However, it's not the best way, and I ended up realizing that I didn't want to play.
i have had a guitar for 7 years and have tried dozens of times to learn, including using rocksmith. I always give up from getting too frustrated and just hating how slow progress was; fuck this i am waiting until they can just upload guitar skills into your brain.
Only old people play that
He misspoke. It doesn't technically "teach" bad habits, or poor technique. But the fact that it does very fucking little to teach you good habits or good technique means that you WILL pick up bad habits and poor techniques.
It helps me learn my favorite songs to play. Thats all I use it for.
It's a great supplement. The games help you get comfortable with the neck, string switching, picking, etc. The problem is that it doesn't teach theory, how to read sheet music, and correct bad positioning habits people pick up
I don't have any pictures because it's not worthy of being memorialized by them. It's a hunkajunk mexican telecaster my dad bought from a pawn shop to surprise me with when I was 14 or so.
This. I only really learned for myself, just wanting to actually play some of my favorite songs. But 80s heavy/thrash/death metal is kind of niche, it certainly won't impress the ladies who want some sappy romantic guitar song, but I don't give a fuck if I'm truly enjoying what I'm playing.
Because next to nobody sells sheet music for guitar without also including tabs.
Even music like pic related is way more common than purely standard notation
Just sit there and pluck at it, trying to match scattered notes here and there in music you're listening to. I used to do that in Animal Crossing while watching K.K.'s music
Hey, if this shit works for you then go for it.
I play guitar and sing but I played the drums in rock band to help my rhythm out and it really worked. But in order to get good at music in general you need lessons and gotta play with other people. That's probably the best advice I can give to people starting out.
I have an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, MarshallMG15CDR amp, and a Crybaby pedal. Not too bad for a beginner? I haven't played my guitar in years.
>play rockband
>run to the hills
>never beat it
>play drums
>run to the hills is easy as fuck
fuck you rockband, i just wanted to get to the next set list
