Its not even out yet, we aren't really in a position to judge.

Not him, but I'd say this doesn't seem to be much of a "strange journey" for this new character.

SJ has the only good Chaos ending.

Saving anywhere kills a lot of the tension in dungeon-crawlers. Everything else is fine

Same. It also opens up the possibility of an even harder mode, ala Apocalypse mode in SMT4:A, which to my knowledge wasn't poorly received.

Mostly just stuff Atlus talk and show on their stream over time. Also new portraits, voice acting for all character and cutscene

The saving anywhere kills the tension drastically.

Rest is fine.

I don't care for the artstyle change though, and if voices can be turned off they're going off, dub, moon, or gibberish.

What's yukiko doing in a mainline game?

The only bad thing here is save anywhere because its complete casualized. I wish there was a harder difficulty like Final's Apocalypse mode but whatever.

This game had the only good neutral route in the main series.

I don't think the terminal spots are thin enough in SJ to really matter. It'd only be a big issue if you could only save on the ship, since every other floor has a save point and there's always one just before major bosses.

How the hell would a world of Chaos and Law not be utterly alien and scary to a normal person?
How could the Neutral ending not be one of uncertainty and dread knowing how humans are incompetent and untrustworthy?

I HATE Nukiko

Neutral feels great getting the ending, but then you eventually realize humans won't change at all and doom everyone to reliving SJ in a probably short span of time, assuming that the SW appears when the earth is in turmoil. Unless putting down Mem Aleph somehow solved that forever.

Chaos is simply reverting things back to the beginning, and if the timeline keeps going, everyone will be right back to the current age after many, many years. It's a savage world in constant flux that will eventually spawn someone strong enough to bring a semblance of order, which will gradually increase until we reach the age of man.

Law is the most horrifying ending though. Once law gets its way, humanity will be locked into being mindless drones forever doomed to listen to the voice for the rest of their days. It's the only ending with a permanent lock on things, assuming children born in this world are also subject to the voice.

When you take all of this into consideration, there's literally no way Law cannot eventually win, since both of the other two endings will eventually lead to events repeating themselves again.

We've already had our outrage. Doubly so if you're an ascended weeb and can read moon glyphs.

All you can do is just avoid it now. The portrait changes alone from demon portraits to their shitty sprites is enough cause to drop it forever

It sort of mattered enough but in admittedly the wrong way most times. Going through shit like the warp rooms and poison rooms in Eridanus will completely lose their bite when you can just save scum up everytime you get lifted back to the front.

In other ways it's almost inconsequential like running final boss attempts as theirs terminals literally right there. It's more of a "i know it was changed to lower the difficulty and I don't care".

Well this. Every ending in SJ has its flaws. The opposite is Devil Survivor OC with all of the main 3 endings being good in their own right

IV's alternate Tokyo is sort of similar to SJ's approach since all 3 Tokyo is fucked up in some way (poison and YHVH's machines coming down, demonoid/neurisher and pure anarchy, being locked under a dome with demons) but in the end it's biased towards Neutral

That's true, I didn't think of the teleporter maze, would save me from drawing a map every time I go through it. I can't really think of anywhere else though that it'd matter.

I can. The pitch black elevator floor rooms are a big one I think of as well. Drop floors too but that's more of an inconvenience.

The only balance change this needed was enemies not being able to oneshot you with a crit from full health when you're defending.

I might just get lucky every time, but the dark rooms with conveyer belts never bothered me.

It might be a big thing in the extra dungeon though, I can't really remember that place since I only did demiurge once.

I understand that saving anywhere might kill some of the tension, but honestly, the only places where I needed to keep track of save points where those sectors full of magical walls and rolling floors fuckery, if only because it was such a pain in the ass clearing those places.

I did not want to use guides, and so I investigated the same sector inch by inch four times until I found what I was missing.

Law always ends up with some sort of new agent of chaos that fucks things up and liberates people.
Really, no end lasts forever.

Could just be a suspend save, but there is no reason for a JRPG on a handheld to not allow an option for the ability to save anywhere. The first JRPG on handhelds in 1989 did it, no excuse for those after it.

At least it respects levels, unlike IV.

Why does Fatlus always feel a need to force some new mysterious special snowflake girl in every re-release? They are doing that in Radiant Historia too. Last I heard Marie wasn't that well-received, so why keep making more of her?

You'd think wrong. Pandering to Otaku's on works for games like Blue Reflection where the difficulty curve is already low enough for them to at least interact with the characters

Once you scan all the demons for a floor then finite save points only really fucks with you if a guy gets lucky and Hama's your ass. It's not a super hard game outside bosses and fear of the unknown.

Was picking hard mode for Nocturne on my first playthrough a mistake? At first dante battle and he's kicking my ass.

I think Marie got more hate because of the anime, where she becomes a super special snowflake who solves everything.

Her in game version is much more tolerable, more so since you can just let her die if you so desire, if I remember right you can actually get her ultimate persona without saving her.

Well, it unlocks one of my favorite personas, so I got a soft spot for it, even trough teasing the whole memory loss thing for ten fucking events just makes me angry sometimes.

Mem Aleph is the mother of crushed DS'. Like I'm trying to comb through my memories of every SMT i've ever played and I simply can't think of a single fight that's as horrifying as hers to a first timer.

In IV the Ring of Gaea worship her too, so she's pretty much Gaea with an OC name

Yeah but still Maria is law alligned, so pretty much the plot would have to be rewritten for her to be in charge of the Schwarzwelt and why she would want to unleash it in the first place and she would probably need a new set of law mothers to team up with.
