So aside from the odd character here and there, what was this games flaw? Was it really better than Mario Kart at the time?

Better than Mario Kart for all time

No protection against online cheaters (there's one autist called ANDROMEDA or something that is always on public lobbies cheating his ass off, so it's better to do private matches). Wonky physics that can lead to glitches. If you do a flip as a plane while you're going through a transformation gate, you can sometimes get caught in an infinite loop where you don't transform back into a car and you're stuck until the match ends.

Otherwise, solid racing game. Wish Sup Forums would play again more often.

I'd say it plays better than MK8. Only problem is the way the netcode handles high ping. When the game tries to correct itself and a player quickly moves position, it can easily make them ram into you and have you go flying.

Race finished only when every player reaches the finish line. Even the last player. Which can be behind 2 laps.
Its mostly small QoL details like this that make me go back to MK

It has some good features that Mario Kart games lack, such as rewarding multiple tricks, more dynamic tracks, no blue shell, better character variety etc.
It's also much faster and designed for it which is why I like it.

Long load times killed it for me.

I really wish they'd make another one. Also add some Phantasy Star shit. Holy Christ, Im glad for Arcadia but c'mon.

every version I've played (even demos) lock up on me randomly. It was like that with the first game too, it got to the point where I just came to expect it. It also seemed to have ridiculous framedrops (randomly as well), eventually I just stopped playing.

Its flaw was it wasnt as good as mario kart, and boat racing sucked

Is it still played online?

Not really, especially now that hacking has become commonplace.

That's not true, at least in my experience. Once someone hits first place, there's a 30-second timer for the remaining racers.

There's a Steam Sup Forums group but it's dead. We did have a session going for a few hours last week, though.

...

why doesn’t sonic run?

The same reason he didn't run in Riders. It's a competition and he's playing by the rules. Sonic finds a lot of things fun, not just running.

Because then he wouldn't be able to fly or go over water
>but he can run so fast that he runs on the water :^)
You need to be able to slow down and stop on the water without falling in.

Also, in spite of the Boost games doing it, Sonic running while using racing game mechanics like drifting looks fucking stupid, especially considering how often you drift in racing games, and a running character controlled by an accelerate and brake button isn't really intuitive. He'd also have a much smaller hitbox than every other racer.

They wanted to have sonic running and not in a car but they couldn't make a fair hitbox, I think hitbox issues are the main reason opa opa didn't come back

Unfair advantage. Sonic likes to play fair and enjoys a challenge

Just make him wide as a car and put wheels on his shoes?

>The odd characters being a flaw
>Not a major upside

And ultimately just replace him with Combo from Jet Set Radio.

This.

I really like it on WiiU. It's better for local play than MK (5 player split screen at about 30fps on tv and 60 on gamepad), and I've put many hours into it. Lots of track diversity, but main parts of the roster are locked without doing career (notably Shadow and Eggman). However, career can be played Co-op on every event so it's not an issue. Only gripe is that they took out Big the Cat.

the team fortress cart had my least favorite characters

Not enough stages. I wish the DLC was more stages instead of more racers.

I've played both, it's absolutely not better than Mario Kart. It's literally people who don't buy Nintendo consoles saying it's better because they're comparing it to Mario Kart 64 which they played as children. Mario Kart has improved tremendously since then and there's no way to say SASR is better than MK8.

The transform mechanic is SHIT. Boats are mediocre at best and planes make me want to die.

Getting flips off waves in the water is awesome and RISK BOOST is incredible. Get good and get better tastes.

Nigga I own a WiiU. Sonic All Stars Racing blows it the fuck out.

Doesn't have Mario characters. More than half of the characters in it are from stuff this new generation has no fucking clue about so the roster is miniscule.

I still like this game though.

Some of the tracks are a little bullshit though.

I got this game on Wii U, on day one, you assumption making pencil pusher, and I had more fun with its campaign mode than most of MK8. That said, they're pretty clearly different kinds of racers. MK is a kart racer, but SASRT is more of an arcade racer with items.

>Race finished only when every player reaches the finish line. Even the last player.
I wish

It was for charity. Stop forcing this outrage bullshit 5 years after the fact.

I felt some of the tracks were too long. Often I'd finish the second lap and I can't believe I have to run through one more time.

When I returned to MK8 when it came out on Switch it was even more evident.

For the original they intended that but it ended up being scapped in development.

>It was for charity.

I don't see how that works. They could have just as easily given the money from actual characters to charity

>Someone with a bad connection joins a race
>Instead of being just another racer they become a force of nature instead

There is nothing more terrifying than watching the racer in front of you get slammed at mach speed and go flying off the course by a man teleporting all over the track.

>Samba de Amigo's track music

Fuck you if you use AGES, never use him again capeech?

I thought it was pretty good.

I didnt enjoy the aerial parts of the races though, felt really wonky to me
