What the fuck went wrong?
Everything that went wrong with every other 3D Sonic game.
jesus christ everything about this just looks so choppy and unfinished, I get what they were going for but nothing here really seems to pop out, it lacks any kind of identity or personality. What a fucking shame, this is looking like a sub 60 maybe
Why hasn't Sonic Team learned anything from mistake after mistake?
>Casino
>Forest
>Press garden
worked out well before but this is shit
I'm sorry, did this stage have no enemies at all?
Only one
Right its so dumb why is a casino in the middle of a forest couldn't it work better as an Eggman theme casino? Also the gameplay looks boring didn't see a single enemy in that video.
I heard there were like 2 or something, basically Starlight Zone tier at best
I really want this game to be good but honestly it doesn't even look that fun
How do you have no enemies, Sonic 4 music and level design and worse physics than generations?
I WANT SONIC ADVENTURE TYPE OF GAMEPLAY NOT THIS 2D CRAP! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>Sonic 4 music
It's made by the god tier composer who did unleashed, lost world and runner.
This looks just like generations and generation was great, what are you faggots bitching about?
>Sonic Forces is launching at a low price
>Last Sega game that was launched at that price was Valkyria Revolution that everyone hated, even before it came out
Calling it now, Forces will be panned. Just wait for the Sonic Twitter account, they'll try to spin it as "ironically bad".
I don't get why they even have Classic Sonic in this if it plays nothing like classic Sonic, and Modern Sonic goes 2D sometimes anyway.
Just have pure 3D stages that play like Unleashed Day and Pure 2D stages that play like Rush and it's the perfect game for Boostfags. Classicfags aren't going to be interested in this because it plays nothing like classic games, and we have Mania to keep us happy.
If they want to appease Adventurefags also just add some missions to some stages where you race Sonic as Tails in the 3D (Unleashed Day) stages, and hunt for some treasure as Knuckles in the 2D (Rush) stages. Port the old Chao garden into it, and maybe a cheap fishing minigame. It wouldn't be that hard.
>This looks just like generations and generation was great, what are you faggots bitching about?
Generations isn't that great. I just replayed it recently and finally realized that.
"this doesn't look so-"
*the entire second half of the video*
Jesus christ.
>I don't get why they even have Classic Sonic in this if it plays nothing like classic Sonic, and Modern Sonic goes 2D sometimes anyway.
Because they have no faith in the game. Classic Sonic is being used to appeal to everyone's nostalgia. This game doesn't need him at all, they're appealing to emotions.
>lost world
Was shit
He was actively digressing in quality since Unleashed mate. Just like the games.
>No mention of wisps
Also, what about people who like Gamma/SA2Tails/Eggman gameplay? or Amy's gameplay? or Hubworlds?
I'm not the only one to notice that they have boostpads on just about every runway in that video, right?
Didn't Sonic Team skip the 25th anniversary specifically so they could polish this game like they did with Sonic Mania? How did they not have time to put in physics and make levels that don't rely on having a boostpad everywhere?
Classic Generations was shit, fuck off
youtube.com
How come Sup Forums has such terrible taste in music? Is it the rap generation?
He did a lot of Colors as well. Lost World's music was fine.
>god tier composer
>yet the music is awful
???
Looks alright and the music is great.
>It's made by the god tier composer who did unleashed, lost world and runner.
And yet a guy who previously made Sonic fan music on YouTube composed better new Sonic music than him.

>muh physics!!!
There he is, everyone.
Why won't Sonic Team just make SA3
>wanting those shitty play-styles back when Forces already has a bunch of dumb shit crammed into it
>jesus christ everything about this just looks so choppy and unfinished, I get what they were going for but nothing here really seems to pop out, it lacks any kind of identity or personalit
It genuinely looks like it was made by an in-game level editor.
What are you even talking about. That user has a point and physics mean fucking everything in a game that relied almost exclusively on them in the past. The only person people are looking at is you
I mean
>muh physics
Really?
Sounds more like programming than composing. Does he play any instruments? Does he have an education? Didn't think so. Pleb music for pleb audience.
so uh... are all sonic gameslike this? without enemies and shit?
because Iizuka is a hypocrite
>"hurr I don't want to pander to the past"
>produces Generations and adds classic sonic to fucking everything
Plz stop posting anytime.
You're a fucking idiot
Its clearly suffering from a lack of vision and Sonic Team's inability to create good level design.
Classic Sonic really shouldn't be there and just seems tacked on. The custom character just screams "We're out of [good] ideas so lets just do something to appease the autistic wing of the fanbase."
I really don't see this game doing very well, but it will sell enough to break even considering its likely low budget.
The question is will Sega FINALLY get the hint that Sonic Team and Iizuka are awful at their jobs and replace them? Mania managed to outrank any Sonic game in the last 17 years. Sonic Team has to go.
Modern Sonic Team Sonic games are, yes. At least when they don't use them to make you think it's ""challenging""
WOW Just like Casino Night in Sonic 2
>The custom character just screams "We're out of [good] ideas so lets just do something to appease the autistic wing of the fanbase."
I wouldn't be surprised if they make the next game have open world and character creation at this point.
Not at all. This is not normal for Sonic games. Even the Sonic Advance games had more enemies in its stages.
At least the music sounds neat, in that it sounds like it could've actually come from the Sega Genesis this time, unlike the Green Hill theme.
I know you want to suck their dick forevermore but Mania's soundtrack isn't very impressive outside of Studiopolis honestly.
Physics is what separates sonic from other games. It is literally everything.
Is there anyone out there that isn't a Chris-Chan that actually LIKES the custom character? It's such a pointless fucking addition.
>"Physics don't matter in a game about speed and platforming!"
Haven't you got a Sonic Archie comic to jack off to or something?
Iizuka was the driving force behind Mania though, he is the one that enlisted them, he is the one that made the suggestions and told them not to just do a remake pack but instead do a new game with new levels.
Either way, I have no clue why people keep acting as though Iizuka isn't going to get credit for Mania, he worked with it more than he did Forces honestly.
sounds like it's time to take him out to the pasture then
How is it that Mario never had problems in 3D (outside of the "New" and "3D World")?
I'll like it simply for the fact that I'll be able to create my own waifu, and I always like that in a game.
but user, pointless fucking additions are a Sonic Team essential. Who needs focus when you got gimmicks?
>Not at all. This is not normal for Sonic games.
see
Henceforth, the answer to this question will forever be: "Because its not mania".
There were at least 3 per act but at the same time Casino Night is a relative small level that can be beaten in like 30 secs. With the 2 mins of Forces, you should at least have 10 max or something.
>I'll like it simply for the fact that I'll be able to create my own waifu, and I always like that in a game.
See, that's a problem. People like you are ruining games. You're the same type of person that made mobile games like Fire Emblem Heroes and Fate/GO successful.
...
Extremely poor leadership and direction
Because tight focused 3D platformers like SMG are easy to make good unlike 3D sonic games where you just run fast and hope you don't fall off the map
Do they have no faith in a 3D "boost" title (Unleashed, Generations style) without gimmicks?
>physics engine is so broken they're forced to spam hidden springs just to make ramps work
SM64 didn't swap between gameplay styles like fishing and on-rails flying segments
also
>implying the New series is in the same category as the 3D games
>implying 3D World was bad
honestly the fact that mario basically has the classic sonic physics-based spin to gain speed in odyssey and sonic has this is fucking me up
Sorry for ruining your games, mate. What should I do to appease you for the sins that I have committed?
Holy shit, that's bad.
I meant 3D as in 3D models. And yeah, 3D World isn't great. It suffers from the "New" game problems; they're casualized as fuck.
kek
All the original music in Mania is shit. I'll take a guy who actually understands music theory over some autist.
Is it me or does classic sonic gameplay look extremely weighted?
Is Sega, dare I say it, /ourguy/?
It's like that in Generations too
>I'll take a guy who actually understands music theory over some autist.
The Beatles didn't understand music theory for quite some time, are they bad musicians?
>Blazeposter
It all makes sense.
No because, like you said, they played instruments and still wrote songs.
>Casino Forest
>it's literally just casino props put in front of a generic forest background
>The Beatles didn't understand music theory for quite some time, are they bad musicians?
The Beatles were always bad musicians.
Not even. Lazy shit like this exposes that.
Some Sonic site had a hand-on preview and none of the "pros" were gameplay related while the cons were all gameplay:
>Positives:
+ Music is pretty good.
+ PS4/Xbox One versions are technically fine.
+ Sonic’s animations when you S Rank a stage are really good.
+ Very accessible experience, no high difficulty/experience level required.
+ Low price point.
>Negatives:
– Level Design is poor, feels recycled from previous games, stages are painfully short.
– Avatar gameplay lacks ambition & potential.
– Modern Sonic still suffers from decade old problems.
– Switch version is currently abysmal.
– The most automated/scripted Sonic game in years, makes the gameplay feel boring.
You're one of THOSE fags, aren't you?
>My opinion of "taste" is the only way so FUCK OFF
Yeah, keep sounding like a condescending cunt and more people will believe your almighty words of truth.
The guitar work on early records is actually pretty intricate.
>Controlling the Avatar
>It’s pretty bad.
>Considering how much has gone into marketing the Avatar as being the big thing of this game, controlling him is horrendous. He suffers from feeling sluggish, his jump distance at times feels random as does his jump height, he is not a fun character to play as and just begs the question as to why this was implemented?
>There are moments where you have to jump on a platform or over a series of platforms over a bottomless pit, above you is the Giant Spider foot waiting to stomp on you, meaning you have to use precision platforming and speed to navigate this section.
>The problem is the same as modern Sonic, at times the gravity feels either too strong or too weak, it’s almost dynamic depending on the section of the level, what worked in an earlier part of the stage will not work later on, even if the platform is exactly the same and the distance to it is exactly the same.
>Often the Avatar will either float too far or seemingly drop like a brick despite what you do, often your momentum comes crashing to a halt as you have no choice but to stop at an edge and before basic jumps just to ensure you make it, you constantly feel like you’re fighting the physics instead of using them.
And I want a game solely about taking care of Chao.
Get in line and wait like the rest of us, frogposter.
Go to sleep Tee Lopes. Your music was fucking garbage and your out of a job now.
>The Nintendo Switch Version…
>…Is absolutely atrocious in it’s current state.
>The Switch version was so poor when critiqued both as a stand alone product and directly to the PS4 and Xbox One version I question why it has been let out into the public demo space in it’s current state.
>The loading times on the Switch version are long, much longer than all other counterparts, which is to be expected since it’s running off a cart and not a hard drive but still, the difference in time is not just the odd one or two seconds, we’re talking around 5-10 seconds of extra time waiting at loading screens in some cases.
>Technically, the Switch version is ugly, both graphically and in terms of performance. Graphically, the low res textures are poor, the comments from E3 and Gamescom are not an exaggeration, it really does look like an early PS2 era game, it’s an ugly horse. Blurry low quality textures in a ruined city blur together in a brown bury mess add onto of that a blur filter when boosting, it’s hideous to look at.
>Even when not using the boost, it’s hideous.
>Frame rate is also a problem, whilst there is no way I can accurately measure it in a demo pod, it’s certainly no better than 30fps, I was also sure that I saw some drops during Sunset Heights.
>Platforming becomes much harder, precision jumping is much harder and frustrating, even basic things like the homing attack become a problem. Remember how I mentioned that the homing attack seems to have altered slightly? Combine that with the lower performance of the Switch and homing attacks become an utter mess.
>The Switch version also lacked the Tag Team stages, which adds more questions as to the Switch versions current quality and performance.
>Modern Sonic still cannot perform a spin attack, he cannot roll and he still has the same control problems which have plagued the boost era since Unleashed.
>At times the gravity in Sonic Forces seems to switch from low to high depending on the situation. For example, quite often I ended up leaving a ramp, went flying through the air only to find the falling arc is not what you expect, as if gravity is much lower or Sonic is somehow floating away, this also happened when attempting to jump across platforms too.
>Other times it feels like gravity is higher than it should be. For example; in Sunset Heights after the rail grinding section if you turn back the other way, there are 3 platforms to reach a red ring. The jumps here do not feel natural, Sonic feels heavy at this section and failing what appears to be a set of simple platforms is quite common occurrence.
>It does not feel natural to land jumps at all, most of the time you cheer when you make a difficult landing not because you estimated the jumps naturally, but because you finally figured out what kind of auto motion was being put on your character or natural circumstances have been put into place to create an artificial sense of difficulty instead of designing a naturally challenging level in which the physics remain constant throughout.
user just stop.
There is only one enemy in act 1 of casino night zone in Sonic 2 same as Sonic Forces, and it takes about the same time Forces does. It clocks in at about 1:30 without speed running it, and Casino Night Act 1 clocked in at 30 seconds going nearly as fast as he could and hopping over everything.
Look I know you need to hate Forces but at least complain about actual problems.
>Casino forest
I like the concept.
>>Press garden
It was actually extremely clever and made sense. They're basically in a newspaper station making propaganda for Eggman just like Studiopolis was a production studio with Eggman propaganda. And then Act 2 of Press Garden takes you outside of the factory into the saw mill where they chop down trees to make the paper with, hence why it was a garden.
This map is literally just a forest that has carnival stuff in it. The two things don't even relate to each other or serve a purpose for being blended together, and the carnival stuff just floats around the forest stuff. It's not even like an abandoned carnival with vines wrapped around old carnival props or anything, and then there probably be anything like a second act transitioning into a super spooky part of said abandoned carnival.
This honestly seems to be even worse than Sonic 4. That game at least pulled off a proper carnival zone..
My biggest concern is that, unless I somehow missed them, there were no enemies besides that one spike ball. What is the point of the level if there's no obstacles?
to pad the game
Because of Sonic's speed and level design.
It takes more time and resources to make one Sonic level compared to a Mario one due to how fast Sonic can go through each level. This means to prevent Sonic games from being ~2 hours long, they need to pad the game out with gimmicky, slower gameplay styles which take less time to make levels for or allow them to reuse levels. A 3D Mario can have large expansive levels and/or many more levels that are better crafted compared to a 3D Sonic game of the same budget. Sonic's core gameplay also doesn't translate well into linear 3D levels as the whole aspect of different, harder/faster paths from the 2D games doesn't work in 3D at all. Mario also allows for more exploration in levels which adds to the amount of content.
Sonic games also have too many instances of the game playing itself. There are too many times when control of Sonic is stripped from the player to do something like a big loop or a series of boost/bounce pads. Mario games aside from Galaxy and 3D world never strip control from the player mid-level and even when those games do, they either have something you can do and its for not very long. A good 3D Sonic game would do away with the big loops, boost pads and bounce springs and have paths that require speed generated by the player, not by the game.
TL;DR: 2D Sonic's core gameplay doesn't transition into 3D unlike Mario's and the games themselves are too short.
The truth is that the boost formula lacks any real depth. You can't just make a game on that alone, you would complete it in less than an hour. Not to mention going fast 100% of the time gets boring.
I'll take any bit of it over ROLLAN AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND
this completely negates sonic mania
sasuga, sega. now we are back at square one
They're too linear and easy. I think it's time Sonic Team works something different out.
How much did it bother you when there were no enemies besides that one bumper ball in Casino Night Zone?
Who the fuck is their level designer?
This game looks so phoned in.
you guys asked for this.
i blame the giant group of casuals who thought sonic generations was good.
now sonic team is basically making generations 2 and you guys finally dropped the nostalgia goggles.
you didn't even watch the video
