Friendly FF thread. No fightning.

VI
V
None
Die please, it hasn't had a good mainline game in over a decade.

>FF XII as favorite

I gotta say, I didn't expect this. Great choice. The soundtrack alone elevates the game's quality.

The first one

I've played them all

It's only gonna get worse

>your first FF
VI is the first I played, VII is the first I finished.

>your favorite FF
It switches between VI and VII.

>one FF you haven't played but would very much like to
Tactics kind of. I've tried the PSX and PSP versions years ago and ended up getting bored with the gameplay despite liking everything else. I'll give it one more try after I finish Superstar Saga.

>your prospects for the (dying) franchise
It's never getting better. There's no reason to pay attention to any new games from the franchise.

Crisis Core

I'm probably not going to care too much about the new mainline installments, but any spinoffs like Tactics A3 is always welcome

With how they're updating FFXV into next year and adding a multiplayer mode, I wouldn't be surprised if it actually is the last

Why do so many people say FF 8 is shit? I haven't played it, but the different battle style seems to be actually refreshing.

Because it doesn't really work. Literally a 9 year old could figure out how to break it by paying the slightest amount of attention.

How can IV be your favorite if you've played them all.

>9

>i've pretty much got all the bases covered
>It's fucked.

here

What would you recommend that is as comfy as 9? I've only played 7, 9, 10, x-2 and 12

FFAdventure, gameboy, technically a mana game

FF11, 2 to 3 years after launch

squeenix will keep coming back, every once in a while deviating from the formula, then returning to it, in a cyclical manner.

>your first FF
Probably VIII.
>your favorite FF
IX and VIII.
>one FF you haven't played but would very much like to
There isn't one. I guess I would like to get properly into II.
>your prospects for the (dying) franchise
Stop producing your titles as "long time services" with needless product placing. Focus more on the story. The gameplay of XV is for the most part fine, the visuals of XV is fine, the music of XV is fine, the open world of XV is fine. Just add more story and a richer world and STOP WATERING IT DOWN ON SPIN-OFF BULLSHIT.

I've played them all besides FF11. I would have really enjoyed to play it during its heyday, but that is long gone.

>>your prospects for the (dying) franchise
I want Tabata to be fired.

If you didn't want fighting why would you place such a controversial statement in the OP?

>your first FF
VII demo disc. First actual full game was IV

>your favorite FF
FFX

Mystic Quest. Backlog is insane though and compared to other games I want to play it's nowhere near a priority

>your prospects for the (dying) franchise
Today's trends are the perfect formula to kill this franchise it seems. It's mainly known for being a fantastic single-player experience following a relatively linear route until you reach near the end of the game with turn-based combat and gameplay focused on skill development and menu tinkering outside of combat to go into battle with your strategy already laid out.

In a gaming environment where people now want mostly

>multiplayer
>action combat
>open worlds

The only option for the series to go on is to then strip what it's known for and effectively split the fanbase (which was already in the process of happening with Square's intention of reinventing the wheel every game starting with FFIV). The dissension this causes gets worse with every release.

My main issues are with the stories. FFVII and X are known for being slightly convoluted. FFXII and FFXIII introduce the aspect of characters who are full of shit and it seems that their plots are INTENTIONALLY convoluted to confuse the player (and the Lightning trilogy gets worse with this as it goes on). Kingdom Hearts is the same way and it's a pain in the ass way to tell a story.

They need to step away from that shit primarily.

What FF games have a job combat system, like X-2? It was the only good thing about it.

FFXV (bought it, not even opened it yet)

I prefer discovering tidbits of story by talking to random NPCs, rather than having everything storyline related rammed down my throat in flashy, overly long cutscenes.

last point, should have added - I don't hold high hopes.

V, the 3 Tactics games, and the 2 MMOs

Unless you mean where you can switch job classes on the fly in battle, in which case X-2 is the only one like that BUT the XIII trilogy has something similar. It's more like roles instead of jobs though and you switch your entire party at the same time.

Spinoffs will be the only good games they're dishing out from the franchise.
