Kokichi isn't meant to be likable. You're supposed to hate him. He lives to be a troll. Even his "real" backstory is that he's a clown fag that enjoys pranking people just cus. I think he filled a fine fake mastermind role in this game. If you say he's one-dimensional or whatever, you really need to take a look at every character in the series barring maybe the protagonists.

There's a fine line between a good and a bad antagonistic character, and Kokichi shits all over that line. He gets away with too much shit for the sake of the plot and nobody really attempts to stop him. I wouldn't have a problem with him being an edgy troll if his character went beyond that but it doesn't. He's just MOM'S GONNA FREAK: the character.

I think that would be the case with any game. Killing off the escapism aspect of your own made up story completely nullifies the player's connection to it. It's not clever just because it's Danganronpa.
