How did they make it so perfect?
How did they make it so perfect?
You don't need much to make a good RPG. Just don't fuck up. You don't need exceptional anything, just don't fuck up.
Origins didn't fuck anything up.
>Make a bard character
>With an awful lisp
How did they make it so mediocre?
Freedom, an interesting well written story, and high customization. Even modern RPG's fuck this up pretty bad like Pillars and Divinity by having super uninspiring quests and boring writing and characters.
Competence. When a shitter like hamburger helper can write something coherent it goes to show how much she was carried by the rest of them. Also 4-5 years of development as opposed to 1½ - 2 years.
Reminder that Mass Effect 3 was released only 2 years after ME2 and DA2 was released 1½ years after Origins.
The writing in Awakening sucks
Try your hardest to make notNeverwinter
that game sucks poopy ass
It wasn't perfect. if they stuck to this formula they could have eventually made some really good games but they went for the action crowd rather than rpg. also morrigan is cute
What race should I play as? Started it up a few months back, picked dwarf and ended up that I was some loser who's sister is a literal hoe, and no sis if mine shall be a thot. What's the most interesting in terms of story, and then gameplay? Also no spoils
Dwarf Noble and Human Noble best origins
Mage for best class
Poorfag elf is the best origin. Make sure to play as a girl.
all elves are poorfags
I liked downloading the Grey Wardens of Ferelden mod and giving all the companions in Awakening Grey Warden armor.
Everybody knows that dragonage 2 was the premier dragonage game, dont believe me? suck it
>Dragon Age Origins is perfe-
I still want to kill all of those insufferable faggots
Oghren was pretty awful in Awakening, I don't know what happened. He liked me in Origins but every dialogue option I chose for him that I thought he would like I kept getting disapprovals.
I've never managed to sleep with Morrigan, even when I tried to. She might be the "easiest" romance of the cast, apparently needing very little approval to start having sex with you, but I might be the dumbest motherfucker in the world, since I never managed to trigger her romance despite having all the approval in the world.
God I just wanted to punch them in the face or something. Like how am I supposed to rebuild the Wardens with THESE assholes? And holy shit I don't know why but the writers decided to make every character crack up a sex joke IN EVERY SINGLE PARTY DIALOGUE. Shit got on my nerves.
Also, what's up with Velanna? She's an utter bitch who thinks she's the center of the world and can't do the 5 seconds of mental gymnastics to realize who was behind the attacks.
You'd think you could straighten her up with a good dicking but nope, not even allowed to do that.
>She might be the "easiest" romance of the cast
You're kidding, I forgot how many times I accidentally romanced Leliana already
this game was really fun
Best thing you can say about it is that it's a change of pace from other Bioware games, where you are "the chosen one" who needs to unite people and destroy the ancient evil. In 2 you are just a refugee who makes a name for themselve in a city.
A lot of the characters are terrible though, I'd go as far as to say that Sebastian is the only one who's not completely terrible. The Arishok was a good villain but removed too soon in order to get a real payoff from his character. Every mage is as always completely retarded, the grand enchanter included, who uses blood magic because everyone accuses mages of using blood magic. Meredith was unironically likeable and understable in many ways, but she ultimately goes corrupt for whatever reason too and her character is completely destroyed. And don't even get me started on Anders who was so drasticly changed from Awakening that's it's not even funny.
Human Noble, Dalish Elf, Human Mage, in that order.
>I'd go as far as to say that Sebastian is the only one who's not completely terrible
I guess Ahmed was alright, I mean, Anders.
I slept with her on my first playthrough when the game came out and I don't remember how. I ended up dumping her for Leliana anyways so whatever.
I really wanted to dick Velanna and her sister at the same time.
>Dalish Elf
Is this a joke
I really want to fuck Nathaniel, since him giving a Cousland and his father's murderer dickings would probably calm him the fuck down
But alas
Less of a joke than City "Elf"
Seriously though I was just waiting for the moment where I could put some sense in her through dicking. At least you could do that with Merrill. Too bad that means playing through DA2.
It isn't perfect. The game obfuscates how stats and abilities actually work, to the point that there's a mod for it on the nexus. The armies you recruit are more or less set dressings at the final battle. The dog isn't a good party member, despite being an adorable one. Awakenings isn't as good as Origins, and is much more linear. Much of DA: O/A is borrowed from other settings, making the whole thing a nod or reference to some other work, which I think is somewhat detrimental (ME does the same thing though). Bodies are disturbingly disproportionate. Armor looks weird and retarded. Brown is a significant part of the color palette.
Overall, DA: O/A is decent. There's enough dialogue choices and build variety to keep you interested in repeat playthroughs, and there's sufficient weight to your actions in the game and how they factor into the final showdown. The origin stories are massively welcome, and help to further define the player character in the context of the world.
You can even kill your party members and commit blasphemy if you want. It may be the last time we get an RPG with this many elements.
Anders is the worst of the lot
baby god or no baby god Sup Forums?
Baby god.
Why is this a question
>Final boss
>Dark Spawn 1 tells me he will help me
>Agree but plan to kill him
>Fight final boss with his aid
>Dark Spawn 1 teleports away before I can kill him
Loved having to reload a save just to kill the fucker
Actually, Origins was in development for 6 years at least. And Bioware was only bought by EA late into it's development, so they had creative freedom. All EA did was push for console release and probably the DLCs.
After the game was a success, EA forced them to pump out DA2 in record time and actually make it with consoles in mind, since Origins didn't really work with a controller, so the series took the action game approach starting then. And then most people who had any talent at bioware jumped ship because they didn't like the direction in which EA was taking the company.
No baby god
Did the BioWare interns make the DLCs or what? They are all a shit
Up until the end of the second act, DA2 was alright. Not great, not as good as DA:O, but alright. Dueling the arishok would have been a pretty solid ending that admittedly would have left a number of things unanswered, but considering that everyone goes pants on head retarded in act 3, that would have been for the best.
Did they ever follow up on just what the deal was with red lyrium or was it just plot bullshit that was never explored in DLC or inquisition?
>giving fem hitler a god baby
The fuck is wrong with you?
>bioware screwed the pooch on this game's entire legacy
>never know what comes of the warden, his son, or Morrigan
Dealing with the Qunari, and Arishok was the high point of DA2.
They didn't.
Is there a mod that makes the npcs not just sit there doing nothing when i'm not talking to them? It feels like their only purpose is to be there so I can talk to them
Morrigan and the kid actually show up in Inquisition.
Don't really know what that's about tho, since I only now got to that part. I've had the game since release too, I just can't fucking bring myself to play it for more than a few days at a time before having to stop for months.
>in Inquisition
discarded
Red lyrium was "expanded" upon in DA3. Meaning that it's basically just evil lyrium that corrupts.
Maybe there's more to it but I don't remember a whole lot of DA3.
No baby god. In death, sacrifice.
>In death, sacrifice
Imagine being a fag
I think it was fine. In The Witch Hunt however, it was horrible.
The story is that Flemeth is an ancient abomination who steals the bodies of her daughters to survive. You kill her in DA2 and she comes back. In Inquisition, Morrigan appears with her god baby in tow and later reveals that Flemeth is hot on her heals trying to steal its body. Part of the reason a swamp witch like herself would leave the safety of the wilds. She needs a new boy toy to protect her from Mommy just as the Warden did before
DAI says that a body cannot be possessed without a willing host. So Morrigan was never in danger in DAO.
I have no idea what's happening anymore
First time playthrough.
Liliana or Zevran for Rogue?
I'm already romancing Alistair.
Dwarf Noble origin was the best origin
Yeah they show up, thats it. Whichever new writer was put in charge of Dragon Age doesn't give a shit about what made it cool in the first place. We get even more fade bullshit which is what should have been LEFT ALONE, because it added mystique and gravitas to the world. I also heard that apparently Flemeth is a fucking elven god, or some stupid bullshit? And bald elf Sheldon is another elven god? So we have the the Redcliffe storyline drawn out over an entire game, as well as OC donut steel elf bullshit.
Who was in the wrong here?
That''s part of DA:O lore too. The templars test mages will against demon temptation. The demons can only take over if the the mage lets it.
Kill the elves. Zathrian is a shitter and the rest of the elves are all fags anyways. And you get a cool as fuck werewolf army and the Lady of the Forest is hot
Bioware used to be so great, it makes me sad. I booted up mass effect 1 the other day, and it was clunky as shit, but still way more fun than anything they've made since. Origins was a masterpiece, the closest any rpg combat system has come to perfection. And to think, the next bioware game will be a looter shooter for normans to play with their friends.
>the closest any rpg combat system has come to perfection
Go play Temple of Elemental Evil. That game was literally only remarkable for its combat system, which was polished to an autistic degree..
From a conventional spirit in the fade? Yes. But Flemeth is something all together different and can very well force herself into people.
But aren't the elves the only ilimited source to buy that item used to make health potions and other things?
Liliana you always get her earlier so you have more control over how she develops
>And to think, the next bioware game will be a looter shooter for normans to play with their friends.
Correction: an online shooter. The Huge Fuckup (codename DA:Inquisiton) was designed to be one in the first place too and it really shows.
Yeah but its cheap as fuck so I just bought like 300 or something from them and then killed them
Didn't even end up using all of them, only made like 99 health poultices and I was set for the rest of the game, didn't need injury kits too since there are Spirit Healer spells for that.
Playing on Nightmare btw
Werewolves, they shouldn't have been a bunch of child raping murderers.
How was the combat in Origins anywhere near perfection? What the fuck.
go play divinity 2 then come back and rephrase that.
hahaha what
Yeah but she doesn't really do much aside from Song of Valor and Zevran somehow showed up a level higher than anyone else in my party including the Warden. Also I have issues with Leliana's face texture (it looks like something subpar from The Sims 2).and voice.
Meanwhile Zevran at least sounds like Maurice Chavez from GTA Vice City, which is amusing.
it looks cool but I prefer pausable real-time to turn based systems. I think it's less limiting in terms of positioning and allows you to pull off crazy things that you might not be able to do within the constraints of a turn based system. I don't expect turn based fans to agree with my choice for best combat system ever.
Dalish Elf, Human Mage, and Human Noble has an interesting ending
>Song of Valor
seriously what was the point of spending points on bard when the best talent was the first one
I fucking hate that game. It will always be my most hated bioware game, nothing can top it for me.
>Get a cursed placed on you because of what your dads dads dads did.
No, their murder of the Dalish was 100% justified
>playing on anything but Nightmare
Some die-hards will tell you RTwP is shit, but I personally loved BG2 and IWD and will always come back to them as my #1 games for doing crazy powergaming and having fun mage battles.
It was 3E based, truly the caster's edition.
and wolves aren't human, so in a dispute between lesser beings side with the one wronged first.
>played on normal all my playthroughs
>decide to man up and try again on nightmare
>literally nothing changes
what
Here's a subtle reason, less considered than the breadth of roleplaying opportunities are
>Want to play Dragon Age for the 13th time
>Roll a Dwarf noble
>Friend of scholars, kills petty nobles without thinking about it
>Ahh yes, my son will be king of Orzammar one day
>Fuggg gold diggers
>This is gonna be a sick playthrough, gonna get the legion armour, gonna make best friends
>Finish Origin
>Remember Ostagar
>Tedious roaming
>Remember the Fade
>Remember the Deep Roads
>Remember the Brecilian Forest
...
Literally only Haven, Redcliff, the Alienage and beyond are replayable and fully enjoyable
And that's one the subtle reasons the game's so good. Because you're actually suffocated by these terrible dungeons that you feel a true overwhelming sense of relief and camaraderie when you're in Denerim or in camp
Dude, Origins isn't anywhere close to D&D 3rd Edition.
>Playing as a manlet
Why?
in that one mage can solo the game and two mages break the game it is
DA:O was such a great take on a modern version of Infinity Engine esque RPGs. Camera that could switch from isometric to pretty decent looking third person behind the back, lots of choice and consequences from character creation through endings that made different playthroughs fun and varied, a real time with pause combat system that you could micromanage or offload to programmed AI behavior to your liking, etc.
Most of the modern kickstarted and such CRPGs try too hard to stir up nostalgia instead of advancing the genre, Divinity: Original Sin included (though it does some cool stuff like the environmental effects)
Meanwhile further Dragon Age games fucked it up by trying to turn the series to pure action like a medieval Mass Effect, and then promptly lost all their best writers.
>you kill that werewolf and it turns out to be that guy's wife
>morrigan's default specialization is shapeshifting
Is there a more useless spell
I kind of wished for movement speed spell in DAO, kind of like kotor had. Would have made the backtracking and shit more bearable.
>tfw modding to get Zevran after Lothering and backstabbing fuckers until the end of the game
Cool, I'll play those at some point. What they might be missing though is the play that comes with actual 3d level design where there are frequent high ground advantages and even gaps or overpasses to exploit. I loved it when I messed up on a pull in origins and ended up grabbing 3 groups of mobs and still managed to come out on top. No way would I have been able to do that in a turn based system of the same difficulty.
Fun and interesting dialogue/characters was the bread and butter of DA Origins.
>he didn't cuck the beta elf at the dalish camp
>he doesn't know
>almost at 100 replies
What the hell? Let me fix this.
LOGHAIN DID NOTHING WRONG
LOGHAIN DID NOTHING WRONG
LOGHAIN DID NOTHING WRONG
I did last playthrough, you even get more XP that way.
Fucking BioWare man, no way they'll have the balls to do this again
I recruited him for the first time when I replayed the game a month ago and Alistair hated me forever, it was pretty great.
Dwarf is fun. Disregarding females and just saving world is the way to go.
>caharacter starts talking about the chantry
>immediately start spamming esc
There is nothing wrong with the Deep Roads.
>There's nothing wrong with the deep roads being responsible for 50% of the games trash fights
I plan on getting him this playthrough (and killing Alistaire). Actually, I plan on killing everyone. Can't wait to defile the ashes.
