Is this worth playing with all community patches installed?

Is this worth playing with all community patches installed?

Yes. It's pretty good when bugs are fixed. People are mostly buttblasted because it was worse than the predecessors, plus most the poorfags couldn't even launch it, since it required a top notch PC at the time. But overall despite countless flaws it's still better than 95% of what people call an RPG.

Nah

Combat is still a fucking garbage. If there's a mod that transfers previous combat settings from g2 then it would actually be a GOTY with excellent music, world, characters and story.

it is
but if you're going into straight from Gothic 2, rein in your expectations
the world is huge, absolutely beautiful and full of stuff to see and loot, there is a metric ton of quests, some are even GOOD, combat isn't terrible, but it's not very good either
main storyline was probably rushed out of the door and it shows

It's good if you're into exploration.

Combat is fucking garbage in almost every roleplaying game in existence. At least this one is fairly interactive. Especially the shooting.

>combat isn't terrible
I unironically, non-memetically think it is, irredeemably so. Melee is just right click spam; it's all you need and if you do anything else, you lose.

Meele is the only thing that I hate about gothic 3, game is above average for sure otherwise. Feels so stiff and slow and weird

First of all, it's left click spam, not the right. Second, you will never win against certain enemies by chain-attacking, like orc shamans, wolves, boars, ogres, undead mages, even those green Shreks (were they called Shrats or smth?) in the forests. Third, community patch actually fixes how blocking works, so spam won't be viable even against human opponents.

>Combat is fucking garbage in almost every roleplaying game in existence

nah
just because the 2 or 3 best selling ever rpgs have shit combat doesn't mean almost all of them
there are plenty of games with various styles of great combat
like dark souls, zelda, mountain blade, gothic 2 for action rpgs
baldurs gate or wizardry for turn based combat
fire emblem and many others for tactical combat

I remember clicking myself through that big city in the desert until literally everything was dead. So I can't do that anymore?

> like dark souls, zelda

>I remember clicking myself through that big city in the desert until literally everything was dead
I did this too. There is just something about those fat bald fucks with gay voices that makes you want to gut them.
Guards and slaves were just collateral damage.

they require you to do various things with the right timing and the correct overall strategy which makes them good by anyone's standards

bad combat systems allow you to do the same thing over and over again as fast as possible without ever having to consider taking an alternative approach, i.e. elder scrolls which is literally just spam leftclick combat or witcher combat that hides the spamming inbetween fanciers animations and allows you to alternate between spamming fast attack and magic

G2 > G1 > G3 > Risen 1 > dogshit > Risen 3 > Risen 2 > suicide > G4

It pretty good if you wait a few months between playing G2 and G3. If you come straight from G2 you'll hate it. Combat is horrible and the quests are mostly generic but it's a beautiful world to explore and the music is phantastic.

I'm OK with this

>Kill the king guy
>Death sound bugs out and he says "A smith always has work to do" instead
Seriously what the fuck was that. I don't even remember his name, but this line. I was younger and laughed for like 5 minutes. But now that I think about it it's still funny as fuck.

Risen 1 = G3
R1 had better gameplay, but was too short
G3 had better world overall, though R1 world was already great

>Combat is still a fucking garbage.
Just like in every Piranha Bytes game.

Unfortuantely, it seems even in Elex it's the biggest problem. AGAIN.
PB are really arrogant when it comes to this issue and it's very annoying.

Edgy.

I don't know I recently finished Risen 2 and started Risen 3 but dear god, what did they do to the combat? It's like they took the system from 2 but made it slower and clunkier. Does it get better? Because damn, closed it down after the intro/tutorial.

Eh its okay, gothic 2 was dope

Risen is the other game thats like gothic? Where you have to choose between making a magic sword or shield in a cave, i dont remember its name anymore pls help

correct

It gets a lot better once you get some actual skills like parrying and countering.

Gothic 3 was such a travesty when it came out, now I look at it like a decent game, why did they drop the unique atmosphere and hard gameplay?

I loved the dark soundtrack and this specific art direction where even mages had huge fucking shoulder pads, it was memorable.

After that they just turned it into generic high fantasy with easy combat.

Dark Souls might be the closest game in the feel since Gothic 2.

I wish they'd just come back to a small, closed setting such as the colony and make it harsh as fuck with all hierarchical structures and restrictive world movement.
