I love that top 5 except for Arcanum. It was fine until I got to the final act and they were whipping out dumb plot twists without any narrative hints.

This list is a fucking joke. The only reason this game is on there is because it inspired the Fallout series. I dare anyone to actually play this game now. It's literally unplayable. Yes, it's old and you can appreciate the effort for a game of its age, but it's certainly not one of the best RPGs and especially not by today's standards.

DAO is a legitimately good game. Awakening along with ME2 were basically the last good games Bioware ever made after the EA acquisition. Then we got ME3, DA2, DAI, MEA, just nothing but an endless wave of trash. In comparison DAO looks even better, but on its own merits it's a solid 8-9/10 for me at least. Good writing. Good characters. Simple fantasy plot.

I agree with this. Character creation was spot on and there was some cool shit to be had (banks and ships, enchanting that felt a lot riskier and more "wizardy"), but saying it's a good game overall is pure undiluted nostalgia goggles.

There is no sense of purpose behind any of the actions you perform since every NPC is the same, the landscape is an endless expanse of featureless nothing with no points of interest and nothing to discover, every NPC is based on the same templates. The only thing of value you could possibly derive from this game is dungeon diving, which has been done hundreds of times better by the likes of Wizardry and its countless clones.
Anyone who says Daggerfall is good only needs to actually play the fucking game to dispel that paper-thin illusion.

Of course Sup Forums has bad taste and like Pillars of Eternity, so you won't get deep and insightful answers here. But as so far as I can see, it's pretty spot on.

id put BG2 at the very top. torment has an incredibly interesting setting, memorable characters and tells a great story, obviously but its short, it relies to heavily on text-based exposure, and severaly lacks in the gameplay department. BG2 improved on every aspect of already great BG1, its a huge, expansive episode in your journey from killing rats to ascending to godhood. the story is simple yet compelling, like a very compet dnd session. the gameplays is great, highly strategic with billions of spells and ability interactions, fun classes with unique skills, great in-party banter, plethoar of fascinating quests to occupy you for a hundred hours at least..really i think its the platonic ideal of an rpg that none have managed to copy.

i think MotB can rival it in all aspect but personally i wouldnt place it that high because fuck you obsidian we should've been allowed to tear down that wall goddamnit

Was this list only for PC releases? I don't know every single title on here, but there isn't one I can point and say "That wasn't on PC." Because there are SEVERAL titles from the Snes and PS1/2 library that are missing. Xenogears, Suikoden 2, MegaTens, Breath of Fire, Chrono Trigger, etc.
