I don't trust Nintendo with Metroid Prime 4.
I honestly do not believe that Japanese developers understand why Metroid Prime was good.

same legit dont understand why reto isnt doing 4.
10chan points says it's gonna be even more like halo with the handholding and cutscene etc like 3
Do we even know who is developing Prime 4? Also I'm fairly certain Nintendo themselves won't work on it since they didn't directly work on SR.
No. Nintendo just said a new development team. So we don't know the nationality even.
Nintendo will be "overseeing" the development. Specifically Kensuke Tanabe. He was the producer for the trilogy but he also made all the shitty Paper Mario games and Federation Force.
So who knows what's going to happen.
This is going to be Other M just in first person and less crying.
metroid prime is tanabe's vision you tard
They said it's a “talented new development team.” so we can't even speculate about who's gonna do it.
I think tanabe also said that the new metroid would be all about atmosphere, isolation and exploration so there's that to be looking forward to.
>tanabe also said that the new metroid would be all about atmosphere, isolation and exploration
Thank god, let's hope they don't fuck it up
There were japs involved as producers and Composers so OP is totally off base.
I find it very hard to believe they aren't going to analyze what made the Prime series work and go from there.
If you look at Nintendo in the last year, they've been breaking conventions while still trying to stay true to the core of their IPs.
My guess is 4 is going to feel similar to 1 and focus on isolation in single large area, unlike 2 and especially 3.
im with OP
>Metroid Prime
>good
Love this meme
yeh sure, then why didn't he direct it?
>My guess is 4 is going to feel similar to 1 and focus on isolation in single large area, unlike 2 and especially 3.
Okay niggers post your OC gameplay ideas:
>Go the BotW route and create a world with no loading times.
Metroid Prime already innovated in this, but they could go further adding bigger areas and using very few doors to separate them.
>Scanning should come back but removing it from door mechanisms or anything that forces you to stop and scan.
>Scanning enemies MAY tell you a clue about how to beat them, but should be more cryptic. Specially bosses.
Pirate logs and chozo/alien lore can stay they way it is. I would rely more on visual storytelling this time around tho.
Doing away with doors entirely would be great, replaced with more interesting area locking mechanics. Color coded doors just aren't terribly clever.
I think I would be okay just with not making me switch beam types every time i need to get through a color coded door.
But revamping the system with something less obviously "gamey" wouldn't be out of place if they come up with something nice.
you don't have to direct it to be the central figure
see: sakamoto in SR
Their Texan developers didn't either when making MP3.
>They said it's a “talented new development team.”
They say that about every fucking third party developer who takes on their IPs and it always turns out they're just blowing smoke up our asses.
I don't even trust their own words anymore.
Because Retro should be working on something else. Fuck you.
wait are Retro not doing 4? What a fucking joke
I think it implies it's a newly formed team
Good. Prime 3 was fucking garbage.
That's even more cause for concern.
>same legit dont understand why reto isnt doing 4.
too many members left after 3
Did you trust Retro with Prime 1?
Prime Hunters was made by nips and that had an alright campaign, especially when you consider it was primarily a multiplayer game
that's what retro was, what matters is tanabe is still at the helm
Metroid isn't always so direct like zelda in that regard. It's not always "How do I open the door?" Its, "Where is the right door?"
I guess its really both, a circular thinking process of, "Oh, a new color, I'll come back later and try something else." Its really an exercise of exhausting your options and being lost, without it being frustrating.
>I don't trust Nintendo
ftfy.
Hunters single player was pretty alright. The dope ass cutscenes were the crown though, those were sweet.
Cheaters were the ones who ruined multiplayer though. It was fun for a while until then.
But Tropical Freeze was good
Retro's gimmick was that the entire company was filled with industry veterans, that's why they stay good despite high employee turnover
that's not too common with video game developers, I'd be surprised if the new team was like that
>entire company
the only thing we know is that the few top members worked on turok/turok 2
no, it was the entire company
there's an article on the making of Prime that goes into detail about the company's history
>Prime Hunters was made by nips
Nintendo Software Technology is an American studio. Every single game called Metroid Prime so far including the pinball game were developed by Americans working under Tanabe so I don't see why anyone would think it would be different for Prime 4.
They work though. Don't fix what ain't broke.
It takes more effort to think up a new way to progress through the game and section off inaccessible areas than go with what's already an effective staple of the series.
It's not just color coded doors though, areas are sectioned off by various other obstacles like a tunnel being underwater or pits that you need the grapple to cross, or even rubble you need super missiles for to blow up.
sauce me
I would love the source for this too, Turok 2 was good shit
sure was, still one of my favorite FPSes, glad it got a HD remaster on pc
>including the pinball game
Gonna correct myself here, that studio was from England. Still westerners though, not Japanese.
That is how Metroid generally works yes, but I think there are better ways to encourage that same branching discovery than doors. Something more organic, like the grapple hook, or how the plasma beam melts ice. Granted there are plenty of examples like that in the series, it's just that Prime benefits from immersion and the doors feel silly and take me out.
On that note, game should have better excuses for Morph Ball usage than dozens of conveniently sized tubs. The memes were fun but I think it's time to put them away.
morph ball is the main method of movement outside of platforming though
I think it's time to put you away. Stop trying to change what makes Metroid Metroid
A good Metroid is predicated on having coloured doors?
Okay now you listen to me bitch
You must be suffering from a stroke or something because you've clearly forgotten all the cool shit the games make you do in the Prime games.
Fuckin magnet rails, kinetic orb cannons, hijacking pirate plasma cannons, bomb slots, fucking rolling around underneath floor panels with pirates walking around, motherfucker the list goes on.
I can mention more sweet shit you do with morphballs than I can remember instances of tubes.
Remember this ass clenching bullshit?
Of course you don't you pussy I'm gonna take your ass out back and whip it so hard you won't forget
prime 3 was my first metroid game as a kid, the demo on the wiishop where you got to do this sold me on the game. Now it's my favorite series
Did bioshock infinite rip off skytown?
niggers i am not saying metroid was bad, i am saying there are potentially more interesting and fresh ideas for the series to examine while still staying true to exploration and isolation. the Prime games were on the verge of getting stale, it was clear they were running out of ideas. I liked every 3D Zelda too but SS was really fucking pushing it, we needed BotW just like MP4 should reexamine the minutiae of series conventions and focus on doing something new while staying true to its core design philosophies.
not that this will mean much but Metroid Prime 1 is my favorite game of all time so it's not like I'm hating on Metroid.
>completely ignoring the thing he was criticizing you on
>I honestly do not believe that Japanese developers understand why Metroid Prime was good
Metroid Prime was literally created by Shiggy.
>Shigeru "why don't you just let s
Samus wear an alien bug head so she can see in all directions in first person" Miyamoto
Motherfucker suffers from dementia
It's not being developed by NoJ.
Would be cool to have the world connected seamlessly.
Please off yourself.
I heard this shit back in 2001 when western developers couldn't understand what makes metroid great, that a small studio like retro could never do something good and would ruin metroid.
People like you are shit, you make threads about nothing but your nonsensical fears.
Fuck off now.
I want a spinoff where you play as Ridley and go around fucking shit up.
I want a spinoff where you play as Ridley, and fight against other nintendo characters.
Why does Asuka look like she got ass-fucked by Gendo?
Because you don't understand that just because a company keeps a name, doesn't mean it consists of the same people?
So...technically it COULD be a bunch of guys and gals from the now-defunct Vatra Games from the Czech Republic...
I liked that section, fuck you.
Pretty much. But then there's only so much you can do with sky cities connected by thin rails/magnetism/hookshot plates (Twilight Princess).
Splatoon was a newly formed team. ARMS was a newly formed team. Breath of the Wild was a newly formed team. Odyssey is a newly formed team.
People are saying that it will involve other hunters and that "Sylux" is the antagonist, so I have no faith in the project at this point.
I want a spinoff where you play as Ridley, and eat other nintendo characters because they're so small compared to him. Then each Nintendo character eaten will give him new powers!
And hats too?
You know what Metroid game I want?
Where Samus is actually a fucking bounty hunter.
Didn't Rare want to put actual bounty hunting in 3 and get shot down by Nintendo?
She never was intended to be a bounty hunter, more like some kind of hero for hire.
It was just the japanese using random English words without knowing their meaning again
Yep, because Bounty Hunting has a different connotation in Nip Land.
Wasn't Samus Returns good? Don't expect it to match the original Metroid Prime in quality and you won't be disappointed. Other M and Federation Force were bad missteps but Nintendo seem pretty serious about getting the series back on track.
But seriously, what has Retro been doing for the last few years? We've gotten barely a peep from them, surely they must be almost done with whatever it is.
Only if the character he ate wears a hat. Otherwise he'll gain something else to show he has their powers. Like Link's sword, Bowser's shell, etc.
...what the FUCK do they think "Bounty Hunting" even IS?!
next year ;^) no really they have to, it would be retarded not to
Basically Something got lost in translation and "Bounty Hunting" (Hunting down targets if given enough money on their heads) got turned into "Hero for hire" (More self explanatory)
Whatever the project is, it's being co-developed with Nintendo Production Group No. 3, and their last few games have been DK...so I'm going out on a limb here, and tell me if I'm chimping out or not, but I think it'd be pretty bananas if it weren't Donkey Kong Country Switch.
>japanese using random English words without knowing their meaning again
GOD DAMN YOU JAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!
I might kill myself. Literally the only thing I want Retro Studios to NOT work on is Donkey Kong. Anything but that. I am not even shittalking their work on the series, I just have no interest in it and Retro made my favorite game of all time so it's killing me that they've spent a decade on this shit.
>I don't trust Nintendo with Metroid Prime 4.
>cooperated with the sub-series since ever
>pretending neo-Retro can be trusted after shitty Prime 3
so was Tomodatchi Life
>Stop trying to change what makes Metroid Metroid
It's not even traditional Metroid so why care?
Ffs.
The only GOOD Prime game was 2. It was the one where they took what they started in Prime 1, learbed from the mistakes of that game, and refined it into a super polished passion project.
Prime 1 is overrated, has shitty combat and bosses, and tons of padding and pointless backtracking. People only fellate it cause they're nostalgic, and found Prime 2 too hard/dark to get into.
Prime 3 is a fucking shitshow. It lost its identity in trying to be like Halo, has way too many motion gimmicks, completely misses the point of what Metroid is about. And is ruined by Nintendo's "accessibility" meme.
In short:
Prime 1: a flawed experiment
Prime 2 a masterpiece
Prime 3: ruined by Nintendo's meddling
Consider all this, and the fact that Prime 4 is nothing but a title card atm, and it's not even being made by the guys who made the Prime Series, I don't see HOW you could be hyped for Prime 4. The Prime series is already overrated to all fuck, and this entry will be full of Nintendo's meddling (aka, the reason Prime 3, Other M, and Samus Returns all suck major dick).
Stick to the 2D games and Prime 2. Nintendo doesn't understand what Metroid is even about anymore.
They're gonna try to reinvent new things to make the game more appealing to normies, and ruin everything. Mark my words.
Nintendo vs Capcom when?
>They're gonna try to reinvent new things to make the game more appealing to normies, and ruin everything
how about you fuck off to /r/Metroid, alamist?
Prime 3 was garbage cause Nintendo wanted the game to be more accessible. Guess what's gonna happen with Prime 4?
I swear to god if we get another fucking orchestral soundtrack I will slap a jap
Look.
You're allowed to think 2 is the best one.
But flat out dismissing the other 2 is fucking abolutely retarded.
You look fucking dumb saying that.
>Prime 1 has shitty combat
It's been years since I've played either, but why would you say Prime 2 had good combat whilst Prime 1 doesn't? I thought neither were particularly good.
>people citing retard ecelebs with Metroid Prime 1 and 2 again
>Prime 3 was garbage cause Nintendo wanted the game to be more accessible.
it's all Retro's fault dummie
>like Prime 1
Confirmed for shit. I'll pass.
hello GAF
I don't know if it's Kong. Why would they hire the Deus Ex composer for Donkey Kong?
Prime 2 has a much better difficulty curve, and is a lot more challenging. Enemy variety is also better, enemies are more than just damage sponges like in Prime 1, and the Ammo system makes things a lot more engaging.
Instead of just soaking up damage abd being weak to specific beam types like in Prime 1, enemies in Prime 2 go down a lot faster, but make up for it by being far more aggressive, having different attack patterns, and having better placement.
Fuck you Prime 1 is just as good as Prime 2. Weak bosses my ass. Flaaghra is the shit. First time I saw a chozo ghost it was tense af. Also what is the difference between combat in 1 and 2? The beam weaponry? I guess the beams you have to use in 1 can be annoyingly specific, but other than that it's fine. Prime 2 is a very good game. But it isn't WAY better than Prime 1.
But yeah Prime 3 sucks a fat cock.
No, it was Nintendo's fault who needed a game to segway the blue ocean into gaming. Prime 3 was one of those attempts, and it shows with all the tutorials and forced motion gimmicks.
I'm not going to hate Prime 3 no matter what your faggot e-celebs say.
Prime 1 was never good retard, and I've been saying this shit on Sup Forums for literally over a fucking decade you stupid newfag.
