So I recently finished this twice through. Maybe I just have shit taste (Ha! I'd like to see you fuckers try to bully me now!) but I think the pacing is actually perfect.
The game introduces the Alien while arming you with next to nothing, and this meant a lot of players were too fucking scared to even make it through medical before giving up in fear. Eventually it eases the tension a little by handing you a flame thrower to frighten it away with, but every burst of fuel only ratchets the tension back up as you wonder if you'll make it to your objective or the next fuel can before you run out. Then, the game slows down a bit. It literally throws the Alien out of the scenario for a while and even let's you feel a bit of power as you blast your way through Working Joes. But it's not done. It slow turns the burn back up until it throws you in an area with Joes immune to everything but the most devastating of attacks. Not even EMP's or Pipe Bombs can do the trick. And then the game kicks it back into full blast. As you exit a loading elevator, your greeted with a fully developed Alien nest, and the game asks you to make your way through it. Your motion tracker is wild with pings. Even after you get out, so do the Aliens. At this point all hell is breaking loose. The Aliens chasing you are more aggressive than ever and become relentless in the hunt. By the time you make it to the end, you feel the same fatigue that Amanda does, and this is the thing I keep seeing people complain about, but I kinda liked it. Seeing those credits roll brought some real fucking relief.
I really like this game. What does Sup Forums think?
Devs did a garbage job of mopping the floors though. You have to strain the suds out, idiots.

It was a decent game. The obvious console designing was obvious, but after the beginning I got used to it. I sneaked around most everything, I didn't feel the need to blast my way through anything. That being said it was quite intense at times running away from Joes. The Alien was a bit predictable and easy to hide from, which took from the tension a bit. But I did die few times, so the danger was there. I'd say an ok game, pretty as can be, atmosphere was great. A nice Alien game.

Do you think the new movies are making a design mistake? The retrofuturism in Isolation really gives it a fucking stand out look and stays consistent with the world of the original. I can't stand the new films. These days I have no idea if I'm looking at a Star Wars or Alien or Star Trek or any other sci-fi film. Like they've lost their identity to holograms and smooth metals.

I really liked everything about this game (the sounds, atmosphere, art-direction,mechanics..) for as long as i was playing it. Yet at a certain point i quit the game eventually and didn't play it anymore because dealing with the xeno become too much of a hassle rather than a thrilling sneakthrough. The way he randomly engaged on you while you made no sound whatsoever became a big annoyance since the gameplay was literally 'go from a to b but first shortly pass c'. Shortly dealing with the xeno was a borefest of trial and error instead cautiously dealing with an apex predator. Pic related is how i felt on giving up after trying to make the best of it.

The only good thing about Alien Covenant was the fact that my local theatre featured the original Alien for one time and gave you a neat poster on top of it. It felt like 1979 for 2 hours.
Jack Anderson
You had that many issues huh? Well that kinda sucks. I just got into the habit of quietly walking any time it was in the vents, and if I heard that KUH THUNK DUNK I just crouched my ass into the nearest cover and maybe through a noise bomb if I thought it necessary.
Also this game deserves every sound award in the world. Or at least it would if not for Amanda's voice actress really hamming it up some times.

>I think the pacing is actually perfect Nah, it went on for way too long. There were like 4 false-climaxes where you expected the game to end and it just kept going and going. I got so tired of having to fix the power to open some door by the end
Nathan Foster
I get the depressing feeling the theater was probably super empty for that showing.

The opposite, it was almost full, like a few hundred people. I was surprised too.

I hope she managed to hide. She was a good person, staying in orbit around a failing station like that for who knows how long, ready to take survivors.
Zachary Peterson
Nice. Wonder how many had never seen it before. None of the high school graduates at my job even know what Alien is.
Luke Jones
It deserves a grammy for the sounds, from the main menu on. The game was the most enjoyable walking/crouching simulator I've ever played. If not for the loss of suspension after being accustomed to the company of the xeno I'd have completed it. Maybe will give it a 2nd try in the future.

On a side note, I've heard that the new Bladerunner stays true to its aestetics. That's the only movie i'm looking forward to.

You should give the Survivor Challenges a go. TWO XENOS

I know this might sound autistic but it bothers me like hell how low poly the terminal monitor screens you interact with are compared to everything else. It's very apparent looking at the loading bar here.

Yeah I do like the retrofuturo-style, where it fits. The computer consoles were nice, the interior... It all seemed functional though. I liked the switches in doors, felt mechanical instead just HACK IT!! Didn't like torching metal doors open though, doesn't seem like a real emergency procedure... Or did they have those in Aliens? Can't remember. I'm not saying every scifi movie should look like this, but Alien movies should. The newer movies seem like they're entirely in a different technological age, bums me out.
Kayden Young
Oh you're not alone on that at all. I notice it every time.
James Edwards
Glad I'm not the only one. It's only a problem because everything else looks so fucking amazing though.
James Jenkins
I can totally understand cutting the thin lever panels, but how that torch goes through an inch of fucking steel on the vent covers (Also what's the point of a covered vent?), I'll never know.
Nolan Parker
Besides the fancy holograms in the new Alien films I think the designs look fine.
You can blame JJ for making Star Wars and Star Trek look like generic shit.
Nathaniel Sanders
I felt like the missions were a bit too similar. Go there, fix that, get to another place... Pretty much like in Dead Space. I mean it's great for a while, but felt kinda boring after the tenth time. Then again, I'm not sure how to change it without changing the game too much...

I've played through it a couple of times on Survival and I'm playing through it again in VR. This game was a masterpiece for me.

I thought the game was such a brilliant roller coaster that I was sad to see it end. I loved the atmosphere, Alien, false climaxes (an Alien staple), length/pacing, world design, sound design, graphics and even the story which was pretty decent compared to some trite that has come out of the franchise. Though I was numbed to it a bit towards the end the Alien still terrified me towards the end of the game with some intense fucking standoffs with it in the last third involving last second Molotovs being the most memorable gaming experiences I've ever had. The game is quintessential Alien and easily the GOTY 2014 by a large margin.

I really liked it. I liked the alien movies too so that added to it.

one of the greatest games of the past years and we won't see a sequel because creative assembly is too busy milking the total war rehashes cashcow
