Are Suspend States cheating?

>have SNES Classic
>first game I play is Donkey Kong Country since it's one of my all-time favourite SNES games
>get off after finishing Monkey Mines, leave suspend state
>decide to get on and play a bit more tonight
>figure since all I'd have to do to be at the same spot as the suspend state is beat the boss that I'd do it legit
>notice my live count is back down to five since DKC doesn't save your live count
>torn between playing legit and using the suspend state that has 40 extra lives
What do, Sup Forums? I'm kind of a purist when it comes to earning things in games (refused to use the power ups given to you if you die too much in 3D Land, haven't bought any trophies in Smash 3DS because I want to obtain them legit, for example). Should I use the save state or is having those lives cheating since on a real SNES I'd be back to five?

No matter what anyone says or does, you will never get the same experience as playing on the actual thing. It was designed that way. The games were designed to be saved in specific ways and were designed to be played on specific hardware.

But what do you think about the lives thing?

Use either. You can just use funky to get back to world 1 and infinitely farm the house in the first stage to whatever you want anyway.

True. I mean if I got to 40+ lives two worlds in it wasn't really that hard to get that far in the first place. I think I'll do it legit.

Anyway, while this thread is up, anyone got advice for Mega Man X? I'm finding it way too difficult (and this coming from someone who beat Super Meat Boy and Spelunky). I've only beaten Chill Penguin, Storm Eagle and Spark Mandrill. Sting Chameleon is cheap.

If you're just struggling on the bosses focus more on trying to stay alive when you reach them and add in attacking after you have some grasp of the pattern.

Yeah it's the bosses. Some of them are pretty wack.

The only one I haven't actually faced is the Octopus because I keep getting killed by that mini-boss who tries to suck you in to the spike pit.

Cheating? Depends. Nintendo has made this console and things like the golden leaf in 3D Land for casual baby children but it's in the game so it can't be cheating. No code was activated.
But cheating yourself out of an authentic experience? Probably.

Are you going in the weapon weakness order?

Another option is getting all the armor or heart tanks first.

>Should I use the save state or is having those lives cheating since on a real SNES I'd be back to five?
You have already answered your own question with
>I'm kind of a purist when it comes to earning things in games

I don't really know their weaknesses. I'm assuming the Mammoth is weak to the Ice Shotgun but it didn't seem to do much damage.

I have the dash upgrade and one extra heart tank.

Yeah, I know it was stupid. Anyway I decided to it legit. Doesn't matter now.

Anyway, sorta off topic, but I kinda think it'd be cool if they made available versions of SNES games but with some QOL upgrades. Like a good example would be Super Mario World SNES but with the improvements added in the GBA version.

Assuming you started with Chill, the order is

Chill > Spark > Armored > Launch > Boomer > Sting > Storm > Flame

Helmet is in Storm, Body is in Sting, and Buster is in Flame.

bullshit.
Save states I'll give you but a good emulator will be the exact same experience as the original game.

Yeah I started with Chill, then Storm and finally Spark.

I guess I missed the upgrade in Storm due to how there was alternate paths to take in his level.

Any moron can blast through Dong Cunt with 50 lives to spare. Its the aesthetic experience more than anything. Does it even matter how you play?

you can beat DKC 1 in 45 mins so yes its cheating. would you use save states on star fox 64?

>finding megaman fucking x too difficult

neo Sup Forums ladies and gentleman

mmm... sure love keeping my snes locked up in a cabinet with all my original carts. bwahahahahahaha

>Anyway, while this thread is up, anyone got advice for Mega Man X? I'm finding it way too difficult (and this coming from someone who beat Super Meat Boy and Spelunky). I've only beaten Chill Penguin, Storm Eagle and Spark Mandrill. Sting Chameleon is cheap.

try jumping and shooting

or being a little bitch and clinging to a wall like a scared fuccboi

charge shots stun more but getting in someone's face and lemon mashing will do more damage generally

Sting chameleon is a LOT easier with boomers weapon. I usually leave it second to last with the octopus last. Try the armadillo, the beetle or the mammoth instead

Did you try not being a fag? Megaman X is easy but I guess if you've only played indie dogshit like meat boy I could see how you could be bad at video games.

We had a SNES when I was a kid but my parents got rid of it.

I keep every console that has ever belonged to me though. Still got my GBA and Gamecube. Wish I still had my OG Xbox but it stopped working years ago.

>Mega Man isn't known for being difficult
Sure thing kid

Will keep that in mind. The boomer guy's not too hard for me to do damage to but I find it a bit hard to evade his teleport since he sometimes teleports backs to where you land pretty fast as soon as you jump over him.

>Super Meat Boy isn't hard
Whatever you say bud. No go get the Impossible Boy achievement for me.

>I'm shit at video games
sure bud have fun with your indie platformers :)

>>Mega Man isn't known for being difficult
>Sure thing kid
It's not, though. It's known to be challenging, yes, but as long as you experiment and figure out what weapons to use, Megaman games are cakewalks.

>I'm shit at video games
>beat Super Mario World 100% when I was only 12, found every secret without a guide
Righto buddy.

Fair enough. It's not really the levels that are hard for me, just some of the robot masters.

Upgrades, e-tanks, and exploiting boss weaknesses is a must in those games unless you want to make the game way more difficult. You have to be willing to replay levels and explore, though.

>You have to be willing to replay levels and explore, though.
I'm a completionist so exploring levels is kinda my jam.

Also does doing bosses in a certain order effect levels beyond certain bosses having weaknesses? I remember once playing the game on an emulator and Flame Mammoth's stage had lava at the bottom of parts, but this time I beat Chill Penguin first and saw that the lava was gone from his stage.
