I thought this wasn't the success they hoped to be? They made an anime and a mobile game to promote it, hoping to replicate Shinovi Versus' original Vita release that had its sales boosted by then airing anime, yet Valkyria Drive's debut sales were on par Seran Kagura 2 on 3DS which weren't very good either.
Did western sales save it?
While is true it didn't replicate the success of Versus, it wasn't a failure either, being the second best selling title for Marvelous on 2015.

Yes, the anime cast and game cast is completely different which was a dumb move in my opinon, how the hell do you promote something by having different characters? It seems japan got more fond of the anime cast in the end, later one or two of them became DLC for the game.
The game is tamer and has a different cast, pretty odd move to make a different cast in each medium, I think it backfired.
The game is much tamer than the show. All you get is smooching and implied nudity.

Since you get the bond cutscene things way before the story progresses, I had a different picture of her. I was sort of expecting her to change, but she was pretty much the same in the story up until the end.

Yeah, I didn't really mean her attitude towards Koharu, just that she stayed bitchy towards everyone else. She was more big sister-ish in the bond stuff.
She does mellow out as the story progresses, is easier to assume the bond scenes happen after the end of the game
I was about to mention as such. None of the bond events even reference the current plot. Sort of like the Heart stories in EV and SV.

The pacing is really bad. The first 6 episodes are just kind of fucking around, then there's some plot, and in the last 2-3 episodes the villain comes in and the armored virus is cured. But it has a lot of nice fanservice and I think it would've been a good show if the director had any idea of what they're doing.
Shinovi Versus, the original Vita release, sold 200k with the anime running in Japan. Valkirya Drive was an attempt at the same success.
No other game has ever come close to Versus numbers, with Bhikkhuni selling around 10k less than EV on Vita and roughly the same as PBS
I enjoyed Valkyrie Drive much more than Senran, the transformations are done much better and have more meaning to them besides a simple costume change.

Valkyrie Drive puts more emphasis on character relationships. Your transformations and supers get more powerful the more progress you make in the relationship, and you can pair the girls as you will.
