Let's talk about the subversive nature of this game. Do you think it was highbrow art? Or was it a tryhard way of trying to make a statement about gamers and their expectations? Was the decision to make Raiden a protagonist ultimately a good decision? Was their criticism of government censorship accurate and relevant?

I think the Strut F warehouse can fucking blow me.

THREE TIMES. I had to go back there THREE TIMES.

...

>H-he insulted us, b-but he did it ironically!

MGS2 fans are without a doubt the most weakminded faggots in all of gaming.

Congrats for sucking at the game?

You can only unlock certain rooms with certain key cards. You need to go in there to get the bomb, then go back to get the AK, then go back to get the PSG-1.

how the fuck is that sucking at the game?

kill yourself

You faggots are so black and white

The game does a lot of things right, raider being the protagonist with snake as a support character worked. The social commentary worked. Pretty much everything after raider gets caught and stripped is kino. The problem is the rest of the game is pretty lackluster or straight up bad. No one ever remember black bomb squad guy because he's one of the least interesting characters to ever be used in a metal gear title, right up there with South American bird girl. All the scenes with fortune were melodramatic as fuck and a pain to it through. Gay vampire was cheesy as all hell. Fat man sort of worked but he wasn't exactly a compelling villain. And the environments were a bit too samey for the majority of the game.

It's a good game overall, but not the masterpiece some people think it is.

Mgs3 is the true masterpiece

...

originally, raiden was only made for female and teenage audiences. it worked. i liked raiden as a kid. that shit about the government is unintentional. it wasn't intended to be art that was for sure.

The whole map is pretty small, it's not a big deal.

>raider

Going back to play MGS3 as a grown man, it's not really that great.

I'm phoneposting and you can't stop me

>The problem is the rest of the game is pretty lackluster or straight up bad

You can skip all the cutscenes and codec conversations and still have a great experience because it was the last MGS game. After 2 the core gameplay of plotting paths around enemy sightlines and slipping through them got bogged down with useless horseshit

>Mgs3 is the true masterpiece

MGS3 is gutter trash that ruined the series. Stamina, better soldier hearing, camo, and a bunch of useless ass menus did nothing for MGS but make it a worse game for the sake of having more simulation elements.

MGS2 is still a joy to play because of how quickly you can actually get shit done without being ripped out of the game via menu fuckery. MGS3 is a fucking slog to get through not just because of the menus but because someone thought forcing the player to walk on normal surfaces was a good idea.

camo is optional, only really necessary if you are taking your time. if you want to get shit done quickly mgs3 can be completed quicker than mgs2

>masterpiece
>30% of gameplay is spend in menus

does MGS2 still hold up this day?
haven't played it in about 15 years

>Do you think it was highbrow art? Or was it a tryhard way of trying to make a statement about gamers and their expectations?
how about neither. people exaggerate the game's faults and merits alike

>Was the decision to make Raiden a protagonist ultimately a good decision?
no, even kojima would say so

>Was their criticism of government censorship accurate and relevant?
yes, but it wasn't anything new

Such Lust for highbrow art

The big thing to take away from this game isn't 'muh gamer expectations', it's the amazingly prescient ending.

>it's the amazingly prescient ending
>ending of the game is solid snake telling raiden that it doesn't matter if what he experienced isn't real if it's real to him
>it's literally kojima talking about how much he loves the art form of video games and telling the player if they felt something even if it's in a video game your feelings are important no matter how they're experienced
>kojima being a master troll hating his fanbase is a fucking meme

i fucking hate people that play video games

Turning a vehicle into a manned missile to attack NYC?

Why talk about shit game when 3 is better in every way?

>kojima being a master troll hating his fanbase is a fucking meme
everyone thinks raiden represents mgs fans, but that's actually snake. raiden represents people who play video games but are new to mgs. that is why raiden is relentlessly mocked in mgs2, it's like fraternity hazing. also because kojima wanted the game to star snake

If you ever want to know if you're a fucking idiot just look at this comment and if you agree with it, then you are.

That is good design, he is extremely economical and reuses one very well-designed area with a slighly altered encounter in order to create meaningful progression without resorting to something as simple as just creating a new screen (which is a very archaic solution to that problem), he does the same in the beginning of MGS3 (the beginning being the only actually strong part of that game)
