I probably would have been more okay with the ending if dr3 was a satisfactory conclusion to the original story. Since it wasn't it felt like they were just sweeping the previous entries under the rug in order to reboot the series. That's really the only reason it left such bad taste in my mouth.

I felt fairly satisfied with the conclusions to dr1 and dr2. dr3 seemed like rushed job with plot holes and and poor characterization everywhere so they could somehow connect all the events in the allotted time frame. To make it worse the ending shits on all the themes by magically reviving all the characters for the sake of fanservice. DRV3 makes it even more unsatisfactory by making them irrelevant to the new canon thus leaving no room for improvement.

the first game was alright. i didnt expect anything and had me interested on the concept and the atmosphere was great. 2nd game was the same thing but with a shittier twist of VR that ruins the whole death feeling and the anime solidifies it with concrete. I just recently finished DR3 and I had the same sour taste of DR2 in my mouth. the finale completely invalidates the entire series for a a 4th wall meta ending.

I was fine the pseudo deaths in dr2 since it left uncertainty and something to work towards thus fitting the theme. The real issue was that dr3 made it inconsequential and made them have zero repercussions. It also shit on all the previously established motivations and made characters underdeveloped or plot devices but that's another issue entirely. Really, if it weren't for all that I'd be fine with DRV3's. Instead it feels like they ruined it swept it under the rug and walked away as if it didn't matter anymore.

I played the first DR and never looked at any of the sequels/whatever else that came out after (remake of the original included). I felt it safe to assume that the usual sequel bloat and "need" to one-up themselves to setup even more "epic" situations along with in-joke wanking was inevitable. Was I wrong? Are the followups just as "grounded" as the first?

How did V3 ruin the series when the anime destroyed it before so. Having Junko destroy world order through an anime or having the DR2 cast come alive with no consequences was far worse than muh fiction

V3 more or less pissed on it's corpse and killed any sort of chance of redemption.

With how badly the anime killed it, there was nothing that could be done to salvage it. Hope's Peak saga was concluded, the only option was a new universe which is what V3 did. Danganronpa isn't known for its strong endings, but for the characters development, and the class trials which V3 has some of the strongest aspects of. It's dumb to cry about V3 killing the series because you didn't like the tweest

Should I watch the anime after finishing 2, or just go straight to V3?

V3 is a separate universe that makes references to DR1 and 2 characters, the series is better enjoyed without watching the anime unless you followed it with the Juzo boys at the time

DR1 was tolerable because while its unlikely that a sole woman could cause the end of the world, without the "how" we could use the suspension of disbelief to accept it for what it was
DR2 added to this with "remnants of despair" which made it slightly more plausible that the ultimate fashionista was charismatic enough to convince people her view on despair. But things got really stupid with Hajimeme being the ultimate hope because scientists found a way to shove a shit load of talent in one person which is a bigger crime on the definition of talent than Kojima with the definition of genes.
