Now that we've seen the stylistic art form come back in video games, what are some other styles you'd like to see done?

Meant for

I have this fantasy of the next 2D Mario being similar to Odyssey with a million settings, each with a different unique art direction
I wish 3D artists would realise that modern textures give us so much opportunity for unique art styles
an entire game that looked like a renaissance painting would be cool as hell but it sounds like its a bit too good for this timeline
that would take, you know, effort
Zero Mission had comic book style cut scenes, I think a whole game like that would be cool
I want a game in Roger Dean's style.
I more meant the surrealist aspect
what on earth made this image
An analysis of humans and our works
horror game based on deep dream
Dogscape game, then
so a non-creepy version of deep dream?
but seriously do you have any more info
>Dogscape game, then
That's a horror man was not meant to experience.
mid-90's arcade 3D

00s cartoon one
Yeah why not
Chinbotsu
Mogudan
Kunaboto/erodoll

Can you post more like this?
rock of ages already covers so much
Francisco Buchelli
Those were ugly though
The artist's signature is on the canvas
F.M. Bredt get with it son

stop motion
neverhood was bretty good
>no videogame done in the artsyle of Asanagi
I dunno. Couldn't you get some decent models and throw a filter over them?
Worked with Skyward Sword
>Asangai
Sorry m8. I prefer my women with all their teeth, slightly more self respect than a dog, and also alive.
Who else wants a Cuphead-like game in 80s anime style?
Anime
an anime styled videogame? now THAT would be interesting
>Cuphead-like
Don't you mean 'cup-like'?
I guess scorn will tide me over for now
...
Yes, soulless waifufag pandering factory-produced anime. Not even the good kind
One can hope.
It's the result of a recurrent neural network observing multiple renaissance paintings and "making" its own
If you look closely, you'll see that there are several vaguely human shaped things, but absolutely no humans
Scorn and Agony look pretty similar
Hell yeah
You mean like Codename Steam?
>the stylistic art form
>art form
whip crack
woodcut would be pretty cool but I can't see it working in motion. maybe for a turn based strategy type game or something.
how about a game about living scupltures? maybe a 2D beat'em up?
Clayfighter comeback when?
check out Juanito Arcade Mayhem
the actual game is pretty bland but the style is taken straight out of a cartoon
vintage sci fi
I don't really care about gimmicky art styles as long as the gameplay is good.
I haven't played cuphead so I can't speak to it's gameplay. The footage I have seen of it doesn't make it look that appealing.
Game where the artstyle is just graffiti.
...
...
>he doesn't play Destroy All Humans! on a regular basis
...
> not the 90's realistic style
just imagine an Exosquad MMO that looked exactly like the show
Mary Blair painting.
Desu Desu style would be good
>redit artstyle
>"""stylistic art form"""
come on.
>beat'em up
How very unfitting
Rock of Ages was another great one
>there will never be a sequel to marc ecko's getting up
Didn't most of those Marvel cartoons literally use the comic artists for story boards?
anything to replace the dominating two artstyles of "photorealism n' chromatic aberration" and "quirky indie untextured blocks"
>Now that we've seen the stylistic art form come back in video games
>implying it ever went away
A game based around everything being made of mosaic would be a neat experience.
What's with Sonygro being mad about games they'll never get?
>Sex appeal is an art style
Yawn
Comix Zone
PIXEL ART!
hmmmmm
> the sexy witch shows up
HMMMMM
> not wanting sex appeal in a fantasy genre
don't know, but it would make sense.
a game with sharp angles, and thin lines and minimalism color pallete. like pic related but with fullbody's
See a games quality isn't about how much effort or skill it took to draw, we shouldn't simply discount pixel art because it takes less skill than Cupheads style, it isn't worthy of praise just because its more complex. Frankly I think its too animated and lacks the subtly you'd see in other indie games.
Please, I do not ask for these repressed boners.
non-meme pixel art, sure.
The spookiest one
Art style is a component even if it isn't as important as the mechanics of the game. The fact that people do care about it makes it important regardless of some people not caring about it.
It's too bad that no one (NO one) who makes good cinemagraphs like this can draw characters well.
> someone writes a pixel shader specifically to recreate the brush strokes and uneven color of animation cells at the proper framerates
no animation boner, now is not the time
Whatever you call this aesthetic
i would kill for a game that looked like this. i think the closest we ever got to this was legend of mana and then pixel games died out entirely until indie companies started making shitty 8 bit platformers again
ew
Nintendo pioneered the cel shaded toony look and their consoles had Wind Waker and Viewtiful Joe take it up.
I love this art style but the only series that sorta has it right now is fucking borderlands. Borderlands.
A mech game that looks like everyone's secret favorite mech franchise.
"ouch ow my eyes"?
>then pixel games died out entirely until indie companies started making shitty 8 bit platformers
the problem is they're just nostalgia scamming instead of making a genuine attempt at recreating the style... or an actual game for that matter. (which just happens to use that art style)
>tfw no legend of mana 2
truly the worst timeline
It's depressing how little cel shading has progressed. If you asked me ten years ago where we'd be in 2017, I thought we'd have games that looked like this.
