If the gamecube was so good how come no one bought it?

if the gamecube was so good how come no one bought it?

because its nintendo. cant say shit about that brand.

much like how people think the wii "won" that generation just because of "muh sales!" even though the majority of the people who bought the wii were just normie families that bought it for wii sports.

Because it didn't have a DVD player.

Is this a mincraft reference?

so in order to have a successful console back then was not to have good exclusive games but to have a dvd player? how could anyone say 6th gen is the best gen is beyond me....

But the Wii also had the best games.

And if it's not sales, then gamecube won it's generation.

I bought it. Countless hours of split play with my schoolhouse chums.

It's predecessor was the N64, the console which started the whole "Nintendo is for kids" and "who buys Nintendo for third parties?". Besides, PSone and PS2 were too popular for a lot of diverse reasons.

Dvd players were expensive as fuck back then. Your underage is showing.

No dvd player and is purple and looks like a toy during an edgy too cool era

It was important for a few reasons.

1.) Because the optical storage solution they came up with (mini discs) was expensive and turned off potential 3rd party developers.

2.)DVD was just taking off, and DVD players were still expensive as all fuck. The PS2 being bundled with the ability to play DVD movies was seen as a big selling point, and added a shit load of value to the console for the average consumer.

Not that the PS2 wasn't great in it's own right, but being able to play DVDs offset it being the weakest from a power perspective.

Crystal Chronicles alone would've sold the fucking thing and jumpstarted a brand new SE franchise if they didn't fucking hamstring its multiplayer with the GBA requirement.
Middle of bumfuck Illinois in the early 00's? Yeah, I'm going to convince my mom to dump $100 on a handheld (in addition to the wad she already dumped on the fucking consoles and games) and then find 3 other little retards whose parents did the same. Nice marketing strat, nips.

>Your underage is showing.
love this meme.

i guess its hard to explain it to someone who wasnt even alive back then. if you were a parent who had to buy their kid a console, you would want the one that you could use to play movies if it was gonna be in the living room.

>then gamecube won it's generation.
the most revolutionary games of that gen where on PS2

you literally just rephrased what i said, congrats.

>its okay when the ps2 had timed exclusives

its also okay for gamecube because people still parade around RE4 as a must have gamecube title

might as well because the ps2 port sucked ass

He's shitposting.

Everyone knows that PS2 was the best console of it's generation, and has one of the best libraries of all time along with the SNES and DS. It was the cheapest to develop for while still being comparable to it's competitor's on a technical level and had the biggest installbase by a wide margin, and as a result got a SHIT load of worthwhile exclusives from middle of the road developers. (Since 3D game development wasn't so expensive that literally only AAA publishers could afford to put out big games yet)

Perfect storm of success.

>I'm underage please rape my face

Shit library

Compared to the ps2 and the xbox (and dreamcast to some extent) it didn't have any major third party software, it was as always nintendo exclusives and people were tired of buying nintendo consoles for exclusives and nothing else.

Also piracy was very rare, while the other 3 consoles were easily hacked so that increased the units purchased by pirates.

Because it wasn't the casual console of choice.

but it isnt
meanwhile the gamecube still misses about 90% if the must play titles that gen had to offer

but it is...

>Crystal Chronicles alone would've sold the thing

LMAO

I bought one. A platinum one. In 2003. First game I got. True Crime: Streets of LA. Second game. Don't know. Got Melee. Got LoZ Collector's Edition. Got Custom Robo. Got Twin Snakes. Got F-Zero GX. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. That game was dumb. You couldn't play multiplayer without. Multiple GBA systems. And a link cable for each. Way to. Make sure. 1% of people. That buy the game. Play it. In its. Ideal form. I never liked. Metroid Prime. For some reason. It never occurred. To me. To just buy. Wind Waker. I just played. The demo. Over and. Over. One of the. Comfiest demos. Ever.

bro what the fuck is up with your typing

>because its nintendo. cant say shit about that brand.

What the fuck does this even have anything to do with OP's question.
Also you clearly can since we have hourly Nintendo hate threads or threads dedicated to people spamming "It's ok when Nintendo does it", so you tone down you butthurt paranoia.

Also it's lovely what you say when then you have charts about the PS3 won because of quality but at the same time the PS4 wins because of sales. Not that I care because I don't even care since I'm an idort and not a shitty jobless teen who needs to defend the only system it has.

the fuck is up with your writing style?

sorry. it's a. disorder.

RE4 is not gamecube exclusive my man

never said it was famlam

>22million units is no one
Sup Forums logic is my favorite

mordin pls

>No console will ever have this good a launch

>no denial
Mhmm

ps2 didnt launch in 2001, friend.

>mfw

But yeah that Wind waker demo off of the LotZ Collection was great

give me a break, saying underage to someone who is dissing 6th gen is retarded. my brother was born on 2000 and remembers playing the gamecube.

I didn't know Ico was a launch title

He's just a faggot.

it wasnt, ps2 launched in 2000

I dont think fall and holiday 2001 was the launch period for ps2. pretty sure that was around a year or so after. the only launch title I can remember that was worth a damn for the ps2 was Dynasty Warriors 2.

>Way to. Make sure. 1% of people. That buy the game. Play it. In its. Ideal form. I never liked. Metroid Prime. For some reason. It never occurred. To me. To just buy. Wind Waker. I just played. The demo. Over and. Over. One of the. Comfiest demos. Ever.

It did not have overwhelmingly excellent exclusives over its competition, and most importantly, something that is forgotten later is the schedule in which those exclusives were released. Gamecube had really solid first few years, but 04 was spotty and 05 and 06 had literally no notable games coming out.

PS2 had a pretty bad launch and first year, mate. When the top game on the roster is Tekken Tag Tournament, something is wrong.

>Gamecube had weakest sales, so its a shit console
>Wii had highest sales, so its a shit console
I don't think i've ever seen fanboyism contradict itself THIS fast before.

yeah, they pretty much dropped the gamecube like a dirty rag as soon as the wii was announced, much like what microsoft did with the xbox/xbox 360

dreamcast had a better launch

PS2 was a cheap DVD player. There was no way Nintendo could compete with that. If the PS2 didn't play DVDs the gamecube would have sold a lot better. It had nothing to do with games.

Mini-discs was already a thing on PC

Facebook spacing?

>underage is showering
>I was 1 year old when the GameCube originally launched in Japan
>I'm currently 18 years old
Love this meme

And they're still more expensive and less practical than DVDs.

Sup Forums is a wizard-only board, get out.

Yeah that's probably why every free game ever given in cereal box were made on mini-discs... it's was soooo expensive...

What determines "winning" a generation if not sales? It is all the best metric you have to measure the success of a console.

>DVD players were expensive as fuck back then
Maybe in your shit country

>PS2 was a cheap DVD player
please stop this meme. by the time the gamecube came out dvd players were like 100 bucks. i still remeber how i got one with a matrix dvd for 100€. no one gave a shit about the dvd player in the ps2 at that time.

I want to slap you.

This

You're fucking retarded man

No DVD compatibility made the choice between the GC and PS2 an easy one for families. This was about the time that consoles shifted from being just "game machines" to being "home entertainment centers." Also, despite a wealth of classics, I can't feel like any one game was a "killer app" like Halo was for the Xbox. The GameCube as a console was appreciated more as time went on, but it just never came together for the thing at the time it was relevant. This happens a lot for a lot of mediums and industries.

Holy shit this blows my mind that you are 18 now.
You missed out on some good games man.

>You missed out on some good games man.
...how? he cant play those games now?

The reason they were more expensive is because they were too small to hold rising file sizes, especially when voiced cutscenes were on the rise, and developers had to split their games up onto multiple discs in order to make them work on Gamecube. Instead of wasting extra money, some devs developing big titles just chose not to bring their games over to the Gamecube. It's a similar issue to what's going on with Switch right now.

This is common knowledge.

Well no of course not. You can only play games you grew up with

actually that was the SNES that stared the Nintendo is for kids meme

He could, but I feel I speak for most Nintendo fans when I say that a lot of Nintendo nostalgia is owed to the fact that we grew up playing certain games when we did. He will never be a elementary school kid who couldn't wait to play Sunshine the day it came out or being so overwhelmingly hyped for Luigi's mansion because it was the first time he got his own 3D game. I'm sure he has similar nostalgia for what. the Wii?

To answer your question, he could.
But they won't be as good if you didn't grow up with them.

>mini discs are expensive
>no they aren't
>well yeah you're right
Way to go user

Game sales matter more than console sales. The blowback from third party publishing royalties are better than the initial console sale.

Don't even try to say you implied game sales, you meant console and that means not much. Wii had abysmal media unit numbers in comparison to the competition.

>It had nothing to do with games.
keep telling yourself that

Because it wasn't a dvd player.

That shit would've been fucking revolutionary at that time, especially on the console market. Co-op rpgs are instead relegated to a niche market on pc, unless we're talking mmos or diablo or some silly shit like that.

They ARE more expensive as far as you'll need to pack 2-3 of them in a box just to fit your game.

That's why nobody besides the technical wizards at Nintendo wanted to make AAA must have games for the Gamecube.

PSO on the dreamcast did it first tho

>Wii had abysmal media unit numbers
It actually had some of the highest software sales of the gen per console.

You are aware that Nintendo's minidisc is proprietary and not the same thing as a mini-disc right?

And they were mini DVDs, not mini CD roms.

Fucking mouthbreather.

and the drive spun opposite of other readers.

It wasn't that the Gamecube had bad games-it probably has the best library of any Nintendo console- it's just that it was out at a time when the "Nintendo is for kids" meme was at it's highest.
Most people split between the Xbox and the PS2, and then argued which was better between those, and just kinda forgot the Gamecube existed in the first place.

>and developers had to split their games up onto multiple discs in order to make them work on Gamecube.
Did any GC game even have multiple discs?

the best game I played on wii got ported to vita and was also better on vita. no it did not have the best games.

re4 did

No game was better on the Vita user regardless of where it came from.

why can't metroid crawl

why the fuck are you talking about a console you didn't even play. Get the fuck out of Sup Forums, please.

6th gen had 4 consoles.

nintendo and sega actually trying since they were both getting desperate so they actually made good games(unfortunately thats not what sells consoles though)

Sony released lots of great exclusives and xbox was good for halo and a few gems.

6th gen easily had the most good games of any generation

There were a handful. RE4, Twin Snakes and ToS were probably the most notable.

>But they won't be as good if you didn't grow up with them.
I was a Sega/Sony kid up until I picked up Wii so I experienced all of these games late and I still found the old games extremely fun.

muramasa was better in every way on vita, controls, resolution, translation, extra content

Resident Evil REmake, 4, and Zero.

Tales of Symphonia

Baiten Kaitos

Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes

Killer 7

Just off the top of my head.

>I'm sure he has similar nostalgia for what. the Wii?
Well yeah, after my brothers gameboy sp, the Wii was my second console which I got for Christmas back in 2007.

REmake, and RE0 as well.

the gamecube has 100x more better games

Nintendo made their own custom discs for the Gamecube, which were both expensive and low on storage. Many developers opted to either gimp their titles or skip the Gamecube outright because of it.

>(unfortunately thats not what sells consoles though)
user, games do in fact sell the consoles.

user please, no need to make up consoles in an attempt to win an internet argument.

stop calling people user its cringey as fuck

>the worst Zelda
>The Worst 3d Mario
if it wernt for Melee and F-zero the gamecube would be trash tier

I love the victim complex here
It would pair well with a certain wojack
