Nigga LOADS of Japanese devs supported the 3DS. Capcom themselves made bank thanks to MonHun, which was on PSP and 3DS. Nobody in their right mind would ever support the Wii U because nobody bought third party games for it, even if they were better than others.
If that budget estimate is reliable or even possible Capcom probably made money on this.

The writing is a complete clusterfuck and the cherry on top are the endings which is either save the world with the power of friendship or kill all your friends because mr bones told you to.
EOU 1 and 2 characters have the most bland, generic, one dimensional anime tropes you could think of. Every character only has one static personality that they never change whatsoever, like Chloe and Simon whose sole attribute is being smart (you can tell they're smart because they wear glasses, get it kids?). The only that remotely changes a bit is Frederica but she loses 100 points just for being an amnesiac, a trope more beaten than every penis that has ever existed.

SMT4 has the best combat of any SMT to date and the story in Etrian Odyssey has always just been an excuse to go dungeon crawling which it has steadily improved with each entry. Sure, 4 had weaker music and bosses than 3 but mechanically it was fantastic.

I can't answer all your questions cause I have the game on PC, but I personally think the gameplay is good. The only good thing about the game really, presentation is ass and I dislike most of the music. Wait for a price drop unless you REALLY wanna play it.

I'm saying an RPG needs story because they have weak gameplay compared to most other genres. Story and characters are what make an RPG memorable. That's the biggest reason why the latest Mario RPGs are complete trash compared to SMRPG and Superstar Saga, they have no personality. And like I said, zero writing is better than bad writing. No idea how you can call the barebones gameplay these RPGs have as "great", they aren't even action RPGs.

Action RPG's are mostly shallow, Raidou was real time action and it had the most basic braindead combat of any SMT.
I disagree, action RPGs tend to have all the complexity of a turn based RPG's stat/gear/items mechanics while also having an element of reaction, like Souls games and Witcher games, so they become even more complex since they have other variables related to said real time combat like weight, whereas in a turn based RPG the closest thing to that would be speed which determines which character gets the first turn.
I find that most of the difficulty in a turn based rpg comes from bullshit, like the final boss in Strange Journey who has a move that instakills a character at random, and if it lands on your MC it's instant gameover because that's how that game works.

My theory its a mix between them trying to look out for keeping SFV afloat and Disney, this being the first MvC under their hand, probably doesn't know/care for the legacy that the franchise holds, so probably had less budget/help given.
I think the audio budget alone (music, sounds, va, etc.) would have to be higher than the DLC plans for SF5 alone. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the game sounds well in any of those regards, but those people still need to be paid, and it can be costy.
