Remember Graal?

Hell yeah I do. No game has ever let me play as small cat and given me an item that makes a weird little white streak follow my mouse cursor and appear on other people's screens like Graal did.
Yeah, I used to look like Skullman and do PK all over the place, I also used to annoy and bully some random user per day, fun times.
is this an ALTTP romhack? i recognize some of the assets
It's an online MMO in the style of LttP. It started out a Zelda Online back in 98, but was soon changed to Graal Online and most of the assets edited just enough to avoid a lawsuit.
I got it from a shareware disc when the first version came out. I remember roaming around for over hours and seeing one single person moving around some caves and then he left. Dial-up was super expensive, was maybe 10 years old, and had no clue how he got into the game or what was happening. I would constantly boot this game up hoping to see another player, but nope.
I remember loving the shit out of Graal Era back in the day
fuck growing old
Didn't we have this thread yesterday
How were they even able to legally keep this going? Why didn't Ninty take it down?
No, but I'm curious because this shit looks like it's right up my alley.
Can I get a quick rundown?
Don't bother. The glory days are over.
RP, guilds, you have a sword/bow/bombs to kill other players/shit mobs, heavy character customization, mini games, fortress defense n' shit, It have seen better times.
Once upon a time a man named Stephan Knorr made a game in Java called Zelda Online. It was a simple game with the map from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in which players could run around and chat, kill enemies, or other players.
In time, it became Graal Online. A new map was created, and players could create levels to add to it. It had a simple but suprisingly powerful scripting system to let players do a number of different things, from mining rocks to racing around in go-karts. Players were also given the ability to host their own servers.
In it's heyday, somewhere between 2000-2004, thousands of people played on these servers, doing quests, roleplaying, or just running around killing other players.
Over time, the PC version's population dwindled, mostly from the implementation of premium accounts, and eventually the game was ported to mobile devices and facebook. That's where most of the playerbase is now, and the game seems to be stagnant in terms of updates ever since Stephan left. But the game still brings in money because of micro-transactions in the facebook/mobile versions, so it's unlikely to die any time soon.
Sup Forums is an eternal dejavü.
That sounds cool as hell, but it's current state seems really depressing. Whoever remains there must be very autistic and I can already imagine that their communities are likely gigantic circle-jerks on par with a /vg/ general.
But the concept is super pleasant. Too bad I missed out on it, but like with all these games (Ragnarok, Runescape, Maple Story, this.), I guess you just had to be there. Nothing to do about recapturing it, so instead what we all have to do is just try and be open to the new shit coming out.
But alas, it's mostly casual garbage now, casual garbage as far as the eye can see.
Is there anything new that is like graal era?
I played this back when it was in it's first version, just 1 playerworld. I think they were rolling out bomyworld (I think that's what it was called, it was something retarded) a short while after I stopped playing.
Man that game owned. I've wanted to find a copy of that original version for a while. I can't find one anywhere. I've got a windows 98 vm ready for when I do though.
I wanna relive that shitty gilgamesh questline, and that weird basement filled with water, and the crashed ufo, and the banks/vending machines that would occasionally just bug out and steal all your money, and so much other shit.

Go, experience your nostalgia. And don't forget to drop in the toilet at Zol's Pub.
Not that I know of.
i haven't played it yet because i'm waiting for the full release but maybe you'd like Secrets of Grindea
>Final Fantasy Gold Legend 2 ver 5.0
Holy FUCK I remember playing that. It was like like the only full-length single-player game made in Graal's engine.
I never got super into it but I remember my brother showing me it when I was younger.
Oh shit, you are the very my-est of niggas. I'm gonna call my brother and we're gonna play some 2player graal.
Grindea, huh? Pretty on the nose. Reminds me of how I ponies up for NEStalgia and now it's a literal ghost town.
Aw, this thread isn't nearly as active as yesterday's.
I wonder if a /vr/ thread would fare better
how do i set this up
i want to explore an old version of unholy nation and look at all the old player houses
There's a function to play offline and directly load levels. Download a client and the UN levels.
Depend on the client you download you'll have an option right on the splash to start offline, or the option to train/use the tutorial.
From there, you use one of the F keys (I can't remember which, it's been so long) and it'll let you load a level directly. Go to where you saved the UN files, and pick a level. From there you're good to roam. Just be aware that in offline mode, some scripts may not work. usually stuff that required the NPC Server. But for the most part things will work properly.
You think it's possible to make an online version of an old game and create a new graal?
Pretty sure all you'd need to do is host a server.
Some tinkering might be needed on players' ends to connect to it, but I think it's that simple.
I've played nearly every mmo that has released... Nothing has come close to the online experience I had in graal over all the servers. I'll forever miss those days playing more than any other days playing any other mmo.
