The judges were always a very strong parody of American police in the comics. The original authors have stated several times that the Judge Dredd world is a super exaggeration America seen through their Britbong eyes.

While that did become true the longer the comic went on, you also have to remember many judges are terrible people themselves. There isn't so much civilization left as there is basically a bunch of people pretending there is. Kinda a big point is that only Dredd and very few others aren't corrupt shitheads. And even then Dredd only follows THE LAW.

Its really not as awful as people make it out to seem. The biggest grievance complainers have with it is that Dredd isn't wearing a helmet the entire movie. That and Rob Scheinder, but lets face it, he was pretty much a human Walter.

It was actually nice. I went to see a matinee of it and there was maybe 10 other people in the theater. I have only ever seen 3 movies in 3D that I liked: Avatar, Tron Legacy, and Dredd

No, no. That's good satire.

The best critiques doesn't show cheap and contrived bias, they expose the whole situation as a problem.

It retains realism in practice even if the premise is hyperbole. If it was just showing criminals to be sinners and made cops saints, or cops murderers and citizens innocent victims, it would just be propaganda. When you show how the whole system and society of a place is rotting itself from the inside out then you've achieved commentary and critique.
