That's a decent way to do it. Having them be shortcuts to content is fucking retarded, but it's not really different than any of the other shitty DLC practices.

It's only when you specifically gate content that can only be accessed with Amiibos that it becomes a problem.

Odyssey not being plagued by amiibo-locked content is a fucking miracle. It's the exception, not the rule. Amiibo are not consumer-friendly in the slightest

If every Amiibo compatible game worked like this, there would be nothing wrong with Amiibo. Since they don't, however, and a lot of content is arbitrarily gated behind these non-game figures, it's still generally a shitty business practice at best equivalent to on-disc (or applicable media) dlc.

I'm surprised Nintendo kind of did the right thing here and made some of the content unlockable in-game. Still doesn't excuse Amiibos as a whole though.
