With FFXV, we can safely assume FF to be dead. All of its previous wonder gone. Every new FF title would shake the ground of the industry, now nobody seems to care. The games are now a sad reflection of the worst western AAA games instead of being forces of their own once envisioned by Sakaguchi. There is no imagination, no mystery, no fantasy. All the relevant people are gone. Now hacks like Tabata and Nomura are wrecking havoc, pissing on its grave.

Instead of complete, awe-inspiring adventures, we now have an FF game that is still being patched to completion a year after release all while the idiot director is acting like it's the best shit ever made. It's pathetic. FF wasn't supposed to become like this. It wasn't supposed to be a reactionary force. It was supposed to be the start of change. Somewhere along the line, they gave up and FF became a hollow shell of its former pride.

>instead of being forces of their own once envisioned by Sakaguchi
Hackaguchi's 'vision' for FF was The Spirits Within and FFX onwards all being online, with fucking PlayOnline integration. The Gooch did little after FFIII besides sit around and take credit, while other talented people came up with everything. His only real contribution after III was the idea for Aerith's death. Which is notable, but still a small drop compared to what everyone else around him was doing.

Hiroyuki Ito is the unsung hero of FF. He directed VI, wrote and directed IX, designed the ATB system, the job system in V (aka the best one), and most of the battle and upgrade systems IV to X and Tactics.

The less Ito had to do with the series, the worse it got. Hackaguchi just left around the time other major shit with Square was going down (thanks to his incompetence) so everyone goes "IT MUST BE BECAUSE GOOCHI LEFT!!!"

FFXV is simply embarrassing. Worst part is SE still pretending people liked it.

Final Fantasy died with 10 though

im still mad about the basch bait and switch

>envisioned by Sakaguchi
Yeah, instead FF could've followed in the steps of Sakaguchi's great Mistwalker! Notable for:
>That game that somehow completely fucked up having Sakaguchi, Akira Toriyama and Uematsu back for the first time since Chrono Trigger
>Lost Odyssey. The one decent game.
>Those canceled console games.
>Forced to produce mobileshit.
>Being so unsuccessful Cuckaguchi crawled back to SE and Tabata to shamelessly help shill FFXV of all fucking things.
FF isn't what it used to be, but it isn't due to Sakaguchi leaving.

>X
>not IX
IX was the series' Swan Song from Ito as indicated.

XII is a bizarre exception because while it wasn't Final Fantasy it had enough talent on the project that it still could have been an outstanding game. Pity executive meddling fucked it up.

FF12 is the best JRPG of all time.

They need to make more JRPGs like English classic stories. Matsuno needs to come back.

>Yoshida's artstyle plus a competent director
Always a GOTY material.

They don't make games as good as this anymore is the problem. Gen 6 was the peak for games as a medium.

He is quite the talent.

The only thing it lacked, honestly, is good combat pacing.
After replaying the ZA version I can't simply imagine how I beat it without the 2x/4x speed adjusters.

>FF12 is a prequel to FFT and Vagrant Story
>getting rid of Occuria fucked up the entire course of history and plunged everything into dark ages
Noice one, Vayne.

I wish I liked the FFT games. I love the world of Ivalice but I just can't into Tactics.

You just get comfortable. It makes the whole game feel more like an adventure, because it (maybe artificially) makes it take longer.

you are making me want to play FFXII again. How can you go from GOAT voice work and dialogue to complete shit.

But only Venat died at the end of FF12? Or am I remembering wrong?

FFXV had great potential in all departments but were ruined by them trying to appeal to western fags

Matsuno is back.
He's working on the script for the current Final Fantasy XIV expansion. Which is set in Ivalice.

If you meant on a full-time basis, that'll never happen because of the way management mistreated him during XII's development.

Occuria as a whole no longer have the tools of control over humanity.

Do you think it will be worth playing? I don't like MMOs but I do enjoy Matsuno stories.+

The Occuria lost their source of bestowing power to mortals.
Yes only Venat died

Thanks to Ashe they also severd the only thing the Occuria used to control the future of the mortals when they destoyed the Sun-Cryst and to make things worse we have also freed the Lucavi during the game, most importantly, Ultima herself who was imprisoned near the Occuria

Isn't that because of the Sun-Cryst that Ashe destroys? In the end, Ashe did exactly what the Occuria wanted her to do. Vayne's rebellion ended in failure.

I've never thought about it but Vayne is the actual true rebel of FFXII and Ashe and her party are being toyed by beings greater and in opposition to Vayne.

>How can you go from GOAT voice work and dialogue to complete shit.
Alienating your writing talent, and by hiring talentless Hollywood washouts to voice your characters instead of theater actors.

I still find it hilarious that there's a voice actor's union strike ongoing; those cunts actually think they deserve more money.

>Vayne's rebellion ended in failure.
Have you missed what Venat was telling him before the fusion?

The strike ended with a dud. Shame, I enjoyed hearing some other VAs besides Baker, Nolan and Burch.

That strike gave us some amazing things like the voice used in pic related

SE should focus on doing a decent Bravely third, honestly.

No, Ash chose her own path.

Occuria wanted her to destroy Vayne with nethicite. Vayne and co. Wanted to use that power to fight against fate, and to use its awesome power to catapult technology. She chose another, refuse revenge, destroyed their power, and stopped Vayne.

Yes and no.
FFXIV is the most "Final Fantasy" FF game square enix has released since IX and it's worth a playthrough for that alone (also because it almost encourages solo-play, so you don't need to deal with other people much), but don't fall into the MMO trap by bothering with endgame. It's best played as an episodic title that gets a shitload of new story content added every 18 months or so.

If you like Tactics Ogre/FFT it also has a bunch of armor sets lifted from those games.

14 is a fun celebration of the franchise made by people who have a sense of humor and really seem to care about what they're working on, so who knows?

It's a shame it's a fucking MMO because some of the things i saw about it look really fun like that fucking knights of the round fight.

Just pretend it's a JRPG with really, really bad party AI.

There's a lot of good content referencing previous titles that the team loves in a good way. Matsuno coming back is a big deal, and yoshi is making sure he's getting all the room he needs to write whatever he wants.

FFXIV (and XI, but I believe it's story stuff is mostly done now) are like the few remnants of the company that seem to remember what Final Fantasy actually fucking was.

You guys are dramatic as fuck.

I've rarely had issues with parties, and so long as you stay off the balmung server you're free from RP-ers.

It's a blast with friends, almost as fun as Crystal Chronicals, and 75% of the content is solo. Hildibrand stuff is bretty good, too, but Knights of the round was fucking cool.

Didn't used to be like that for 14. 14 was saved by the most passionate devs in the industry.

lol

FF is dead since XIII.
Let's stop preteding any game after it had any in being good.
If you fell for the hype, you were a fool.

>With FFXV, we can safely assume FF to be dead.
Lmao nigga it died with FF8. The entire studio disbanded and don't even work on the games any more. You cunts are fucking braindead.

?

One of the best final fantasies came out right before XV

>b-but I'm too stupid for anything that's not turn based or holding down a button to attack!
tough luck pal

>It's a shame it's a fucking MMO

as opposed to a jRPG? Newsflash: the combat/gameplay is way better in FFXIV than any other FF game

I agree this is the best FF attempt since IX.
Too bad the MMO's aspects push it down.

>better combat than any other FF game
>better story than most FF games (heavensward)
>far more challenging content than any single player FF game
>music is consistently good like the pre FF12 games

don't see a problem here, I'd be more than down with XVI being an MMO again

reminder for xv-kun to kill himself

Honestly, i don't even have the urge to argue FF anymore. You enjoy it, whatever man.

Don't bother, most people just think you hit the same one skill from early game to endgame. You can easily tell who has never played the game let alone played or saw guides for any extreme or omega fight
But hey turn based is totally the height of gameplay in their eyes

XI and XII were better desu

>need to interact with human players
>sub based
>shitton of grindan
aaaand dropped

You're correct in all aspects aside from the combat/battle system, which is garbage.
The fact that those Extreme fights you tout are all positioning-based is a testament to how derivative and homogenous the actual class mechanics are. The reason the game is built like that is because the devs are afraid of any one class becoming mandatory (which is fair because people are rock-stupid bandwaging fuckwits that hate anything that isn't "meta"). And the boss mechanics themselves get recycled constantly, because there's a finite number of ways you can put a new twist on "don't stand in fire".

Look, I played XIV and raided during 2.0 and 3.0 but I stopped in 4.0 because all fights boil down to "Simon Says" and 8-man Simon Says (where one dude fucking up wastes 10 minutes of everyone's time) isn't fun. It's especially not fun when you take into account the number of retards infesting the endgame community, making it basically impossible to clear anything without a static; and if you have a static it becomes like a second job, which can fuck right off.

>need to interact with human players
autist
>sub based
thirdworlder/underage
>shitton of grindan
your main class reaches max level just by doing the main story quests, there is less grinding in FFXIV than other FFs unless you want to level additional classes

Lets be real, even if I take your comment at face value (a lot of it is true), it's still better than what other FF games (non-11) have to offer

>better story than most FF games
but the story is rehashed from old FF games

what's heavensward rehashed from?

FF14 is a sham and disgrace of the series, and muddled further by having shit combat and shit customization, which has been a stable of all FF games. It's a good two hour movie per expansion and nothing more.

VI

>forgot about 14 1.0

No, 14 is still produced by jewish Square. I shouldn't have to talk about all the shitty gameplay mechanics and optional cash shop they have going.

warring triad has nothing to do with the heavensward story

>better combat than any other FF game
You're either lying or a full on catfag

>shit combat
seeAu ra, the game easily has better combat than the single player FFs (not that that's hard to do)

>the game easily has better combat than the single player FFs
FF14 is a very simple button mash game. Every FF has better combat than it, save for FF1, 2, 3, and X, since they were fully turn based. FF14 wont have good combat until they get their servers out of the year 2001 and they stop locking us to the same playstyles.

And they also need to drop console support because that is ruining the design decision for the mmo. When even Korean mmos have better design than you, you know something is wrong.

>FF14 is a very simple button mash game
stopped reading

Nope.

The moment visionary Yasumi Matsuno was kicked off and replaced by a committee it was doomed.

If FF14 fags could read, it would be a miracle

>FFXV sells 6 million. OP calls it dead.
Fuck off.

you actually have to read to understand FF14's combat system, unlike single player FF games

You don't have to read anything. Just click whatever lights up. The literal definition of brain dead combat. A retard can do it.

yeah, you really haven't played FF14 have you? It's really sad to attack a game you havn't even played user

Good night, faggot. Your game is trash.

The problem with FFXV was the side quests with collectible shit, the shit loading time, the DLC and muh online GTA-style game, the seasonal events (what the fuck seasonal events in a single player game?) and the slow ass fuck open world.

It could've been so good, the world was good, the visuals were amazing, the story (I did not finish it, so idk about later on) looked interesting... I just don't see why they had to basically turn it into GTA.

nice try faggot

boards.fireden.net/v/thread/349181963/#349192974

pathetic

those weren't even the main problems with FFXV, it was the combat and the story

>tfw we can't have FFV threads anymore thanks to XIVfags

> it's still better than what other FF games (non-11) have to offer
You're not wrong, but those games are also 15-30 years old. Technological limitations were much more of an issue, as was the relative immaturity of game design theory.

Honestly I'd prefer something solo and with more involved gameplay mechanics. If I could have the story of FFXIV (with the fat trimmed) and a battle system like SMT Nocturne I'd be over the moon, because it would be a more fun game than either spamming a 1-2-3 combo over and over or autistically micromanaging my gear and every GCD in an 8-minute fight to shave 10 seconds off the clear time.

That shit isn't viscerally fun in the way stacking STR and buffs and OHKOing bosses with Pierce is. Actually, you wanna know what my most replayed game is? Earthbound, and that's because it has an intuitive and varied battle system to accompany its story. XIV meanwhile can be arduous to play because of iLv gating between content droughts, other players being dumb and/or cunts, and the homogeneity of the enemies, bosses and other in-game trials.

what the fuck are you even gonna make a thread for FFV anyway

I can concede to that, I really liked nocturne

You can never and could never have good FF threads, epsically on Sup Forums, anything square related just turns to shit

Why are you FF fags all so insecure

TWEWY though

I didn't mind the combat that much other than a few things (like magic being locked to the 4 elements and having friendly fire), it wasn't traditional but it was okay. The story... I don't know, I got as far as the part after that city that looks like Venice where you fight vs Leviathan (or whatever that was) then I stopped playing. I really should get back to it one of these days but it's been almost a year since I last touched it. There are way better games out there to play and I have no interest in season passes or shitty DLC/multiplayer expansions anyway.

Lost Odyssey had a good story but fuck was it boring to play. I much preferred Blue Dragon.

My problem with XV is the rushed and disjointed narrative past chapter 7, the fucking camera, and every side quests other than hunts and the fishing side quests. Other than that I'm cool with it. Loading times not too much of a problem since I'm playing digital and I don't fast travel too much.

Except FFXV was a huge success and you're a faggot, the series is stronger than ever.

I'm playing digital and they are terrible

Saleswise sure, but i wouldn't exactly say that XV is an amazing finished game or that all the patch and dlc shit is amazing.
Fifa and COD also sells like hotcakes and they aren't the best games ever

No, you're just an underage faggot.
Literally nobody with taste has given a fuck about FF for more than a decade. Normies eat it up, like always. And the cycle continues. You were just too young to notice how shit the series has been since 2005.

Eh, Episode Prompto was pretty good. And I have no fundamental issue with a game being patched to completion.

>How can I hold onto all this VOID.png

That's 2001.
