Absolutely crazy to think a series that started as a niche JRPG on PS3 is now a series on par with Final Fantasy and Assassin's Creed in popularity
Dark Souls 3 sells 2 million on PC
It's a good game. I like it.
>Absolutely crazy that a game with good marketing would sell well no matter how badly made it is
No. It really isn't. Kind of standard, actually.
It's so badly made that in every metric, from critic to user, it has an overwhelmingly positive reception.
Dark Souls III is a great game.
Nigga, Das 1 has similar sales
With that braindead AI? I don't think so. It could get a free pass if it wasn't so PvE focused, but it is.
It has the best AI for any DaS game. In DaS1, you could back circle back stab pretty much all mobs.
>niche JRPG
DaS1 was put in extreme sales and never really carried the $60 price tag on PC like DaS3 does.
>It has the best AI for any DaS game
That's like saying it's the least rotten apple in an entire putrid pile. It doesn't matter it's "the best". The standard was very low to begin with.
The AI in DaS3 is perfectly serviceable for an action JRPG. I can agree that DaS1's AI was so poor it actually brought the game down a notch.
Nigger, they couldn't even figure out how to stop the AI from attacking through solid geometry, and they had 4 (four, Δ, quattro) whole games to figure it out. This is high-grade incompetence.
>100000 people bought and never even touched the game
people were a mistake
it's a great sequel, a great game on its own and the first to use the new engine. there is no reason for it not to do well. that said porting games on the Pirate Computer (see what I did there) was a mistake. sales at a fraction of the cost means nothing for the longevity of a franchise. No games ever any sequels because they sold well on PC.
it's almost as if dumbing down the game for the casual masses = more sales
...
>niche JRPG
It's a western RPG developed by a Japanese team you fucking moron.
Do you fuckers like anything?
i only played ds1 but how did they dumbed down ds3? it's not like there are too many or too complex mechanics in the game.
Sony wanted them to make Demon's Souls casual, they disagreed. Sony then isolated them to Japan only release.
From Software going from zero to heroes is a slap in the face of Sony more than any company out there. They learned a hard lesson that gamers all don't want dumbed down cinematic shit.
DaS3 is much harder than both DaS1 and BB.
Pontiff took me more tries than all the DaS1 bosses combined.
>You don't like an overhyped piece of shit, that means you don't like ANYTHING!!!111
I like Gothic.
Yeah, but it isn't a good Dark Souls game. In that regard, it is the worst in the franchise.
>believing dark souls is a piece of shit
what universe do you get your video games from, I'd like to live there
lol every fucking game got a bad IA. Can't name a recent one that has been good. if that makes the game bad then nearly every game is.
>JRPG
The only japanese in that game is the developer, they ripped off Blade of Darkness to the point that even the OST sounds the same
youtube.com
Then why do I have hundreds of hours in 1 and 2 but only 2.5 in 3?
Because you’re too fucking stupid to exist?
wow, some actually acknowledged demons' souls
>a Japanese RPG is not Japanese because I said so
They didn't do that though, fag.
Started from the bottom.
because 3 is the worst of the series
Sold 2 million and barely has 6k on at any given time. What happened?
Doesn't change the fact that it's still shit
What was a better 2016 game?
>Darkest Dungeon
>Titanfall 2
>Xcom 2
>Stardew Valley
Jesus christ what shit taste.
assasin's creed games sell over 10 million you autistic souls cuck
you like shit like dark souls 3. you have no right to call others on your garbage taste
Syndicate didn't.
They make good games, they understand game design the way games used to be but with the polish of modern games
I like souls games but I want them to make something else completely now, who knows? Can you imagine a shooter made by them?
yeah, its really nice to see good devs succeed
DaS3 is the most dumbed down and most popular
>JRPG
>an RPG made in Japan is not a Japanese RPG
Dark Souls is not an RPG
Not true. Sony is the reason Dark Souls even exists since Sony funded Demon's SOuls and even owns the rights to it. Show some respect asshole Sony is the only reason you're playing Dark Souls on PC right now.
One of the Sony execs thought demon's souls was utter crap because he couldn't get past one level. This was what lead to it initially being Japan only.
You're such a fucking liar, Yoshida played an unfinished version of Demon's Souls and thought casuals wouldn't like it. Sony owns Demon's Souls it's the reason Dark Souls exists in the first place.
>still less sales than bloodborne
woah so this is the power of steam sales
see
Yes it is.
Its as much an RPG as Castlevania is.
Of course they don't
this shit still costs around 80 bucks. It really is the death sentence of anything souls related wow
I'm a shitter, I can't beat pontiff without summons. His attacks have some weird delay I can't get accustomed to.
Dark Souls 2 was bad, get over it.
Literally the only dumbing down thing they did was bonfires, which was already done in DaS2.
DaS1 bosses and enemies are significantly easier to fight and exploit. Especially considering how slow they usually are.
Sadly none of the AAA guys took the lessons of Souls to heart. All you have to do is make a fresh game instead of just copying whatever is popular and you will go far.
Yet he essentially paid for it to be made, Sony owns Demon's Souls and bloodborne. Yoshida ended up soloing defiled Watchdog of the old lords too.
Well that explains all the Souls hate i've been seeing from newfags lately.
This. It's an action game, that's why Bloodborne is the best in the series, because they finally realised this and made their best action game by dumping useless RPG mechanics and adding the rally system so you never have to leave combat to heal
dark souls is not a rpg. if dark souls is a rpg, lets just call literally everything a rpg.
>only dumbing down thing they did was bonfires
Instant estus, a million rolls chained together, bosses with pisspoor health pools, every enemy in the game getting shitsmashed by the starting weapon, removal of all flavor spells, no death penalty...none of this is dumbing down?
>JRPG
>mfw "anime" was a tag on DS3 upon release and it took forever to get it off
>Gear progression
>Skill progression
>Attribute progression
>Emphasis on story
>Player choice to decide what kind of character they have.
Are you one of those retards who thinks dialogue options makes the game an RPG?
>all these things that are either no different from previous entries, or were actually worse in previous entries
Meme harder, friendo.
>Steam introduces tags
>shitty games like FEZ are spammed with joke custom tags
>Steam removes custom tags, leaving only the "legit" ones
>shit is mistagged left and right now, but you can't just remove those tags, because they're proper tags, just put on the wrong games
>can't filter out shitty tags, because jokesters put them on literally every game now
>Gear progression
Beside the weapon (and I'm being generous on that), gear has no real progression. That's why Fashion Souls exists; people wear what looks good. I've yet to see someone who tries to put on the highest stat armor pieces as they find them.
>Search the tag 'horror'
>Memey Steam community puts it on bad games instead of horror games
I bet you think Zelda is an RPG
>Instant estus, a million rolls chained together, bosses with pisspoor health pools, every enemy in the game getting shitsmashed by the starting weapon, removal of all flavor spells, no death penalty...none of this is dumbing down?
How come Bloodborne doesn't get shit for any of this, like DS3 does?
>What is giant dads?
It is a player choice to run naked or run fasion souls because the game allows for it. It is also a player choice to go full havels and a giant ass shield or make a meme build like giant dads. But even ignoring armor, the progression of your weapon is more meaningful than pretty much any other game where you just throw away your old sword when you get a new one
Early Zelda actually was marketed as an RPG.
b-bu-but the starting weapons aren't dogshit, how is this fair?
Shows there is still a market for "true" gamers if you know what I'm saying.
Dude just curl up and parry. I beat him first try yesterday on NG+.
Bloodborne's enemy design and combat are designed for it. DS3 took BB mechanics with old Dark Souls weaponry and setting and smashed them together without any real consideration to how it would pan out. The result was a skitzy shitfest of a combat system.
Das 3
Good
>best bosses
Bad
>roll simulator
>everything is shit
It's most definitely an RPG. It gives you more than enough freedom to role play. This in contrast to say Witcher 3 where it's only one role to play, therefore no role playing.
Bloodborne
>no armor
>players are more agile and faster
Dark Souls 3
>there is armor
>somehow still as fast as Bloodborne for no reason
>Dark Souls bosses
>All roll simulators, often times just common enemies you fight late game or just 'fight multiple enemies at once!'
>Demon's Souls bosses
>Every single boss is completely unique with his own little gimmick, pattern, boss chamber and pitfalls that need to be countered.
So, BB's enemies were designed to be shitsmashed by the starting weapon and being unable to punish your healing, but in DS3 it happened on accident?
AC sold 14 million copies of 3 and 4 each. It's peak was way higher
Pretty much. The bigger the installbase, the more garbage it's community becomes.
Souls threads back at DeS and the original DaS were the best. Everyone discovering stuff, helping each other, working together on theories.
But... there is armor in Bloodborne. Moreover there is no weight limit, letting you move at full speed when wearing the best armor, making it even more dumbed down.
Souls didn't become filled with memes and 'git gud' spam until the game was ported to PC
FF XV is best example, that game is absolute shit it would never sell 6.5 millions if not for marketing.
The stats of the sets are so similar it's irrelevant. 90% of the player base goes for fashion instead of wearing the Cainhurst armor which is the best in the game.
>working together on theories
This is not a positive of the community. It's one of the reasons it's so hated: an overly dedicated base of autists who mistake shitty storytelling and nonexistent pacing for actual quality. They're like /lit/ but with vidya, only a million times more unbearable.
>tfw beat Dark Souls 1 with starting gear on first playthrough
Why do people complain about the later games doing this, when it just as easily possible in DS1
did not mean to quote.
>complain
One of the biggest selling points of Souls was that you can beat the game with literally any weapon once you learn to play.
That's wrong though. Stacking defence against certain damage types makes a huge difference, and there's absolutely no stat investment required.
There are people this thread that are pointing it out as a flaw in the later games.
Because the world doesn't revolve around you?
Because the community is an echo chamber of everyone trying to fit in, and the commonly accepted attitude on 1 is that it a gud game dat don't do no wrong, despite the undeniable fact the PvP was almost as bad as 3's, and the latter half of the game was horribly rushed.
