What would make you stop pirating?

What would make you stop pirating?

Winning the lottery.

Having a job.

more taxes on the wealthiest 10%

Every game being released DRM-free.
The only reason I do it is to archive.

Nothing.

Having infinite money

demos being available for every single game

Good business practices, especially ones that are consumer friendly instead of hostile

Demos, honest coverage of the games, less buzzword spewing from devs

Death

/thread

Literally nothing. Been doing it since DC++

Games actually being reliably good upon release

A game that's worth it's price tag

steam sales have been good enough that i don't really need to pirate. my backlog is big enough without adding piracy into the mix

This. Early access opened the doors for developers never actually producing a finished game

I'll sail until I'm six feet under.

CS:GO

If buying the game is easier than pirating it.

if the government actually started arresting or fining people

This. 2 hours on steam isn't enough to see if the game is shit. Specially when you have a long tutorial and/or tons of chitchat. A good example is CrossCode. Shitty tutorial and useless chitchat.

Having a job, or being able to work, I'm disabled.

all games released as open source with no restrictions on modding or distribution
they can crowdfund it if theyre concerned about not making money that way

Is it okay to pirate GTA 5 or will I lose out on a lot of content exclusive to online?

>Being able to actually pay for games
>Being able to test the games before buying them.
>Games themselves being decentsince nowadays its 90% early access crap

Until i think 2007 i bought all my games and never pirated. Because games were cheap, had demos etc. Last year i actually bought games was 2012 or 13. Most of them i pirated beforehand to try them out.

Having money, I'm actually jealous of people that have cool physical games and collector editions.

Games being $40 or less, DLC being no more than $20 for mini-expac-like additions no more than $5 for item packs; they're not worth $80+.

I already don't. I just stopped playing games, or consuming content in general.

Either getting a good paying job, actually taxing people who own most of the wealth or making games cheaper.

I only pirate movies, and usually only movies and porn that have been out for years.

Give me games for free

obviously all free games which will never happen

Even if all games became free I'd still pirate because fuck the police.

Nothing.

Getting arrested.

steam stopped my game pirating because i can't be arsed with cracks and keeping up with trusted trackers anymore but i don't see me ever stop torrenting movies/series. I'ts just way too convenient

demos and sales

Non cash-grab games
Non p2w games
Actual good games

I don't even know how or where to pirate anymore since TPB is a honeypot, and I've heard the same for kickass torrents

This.

The retun of Demo's so I can actually try before I buy.

Free games.

Not standardizing games at 60 dollars and movies at 30. They're not all worth that. If I enjoy it I'll buy it. I'm not going to pay for a steamy pile of bait and switch anymore.

>TPB is a honeypot
God, what is with this meme?

Living in a first world country where the games don't have ridiculous prices.

nothing

I don't pirate most games I like, as I have somewhat niche tastes and the games that cater to those tastes are pretty limited.

Bringing demos back.

demos

Reducing game prices so i don't have to pay 60 euros for a 5 hour game

Who the fuck is that

Steam dying

Nice big boxes, detailed manuals, maps of the ingame world. Things like that are the only reason for me to buy anything. Now since most games I own are on steam, there is no physical copy of anything

Some dude who cried because Boruto or Naruto ended

free games. see f2p games, no one is pirating them

LOL

I used to pirate everything, except for multiplayer games (because that shit was a hassle)
Ever since I got a job, buying a game is like nothing, and steam maxes out my download speeds so it's just easier to buy a game now instead of looking for a good torrent

Having disposable income.

Getting older and not having time for vidya anymore

the inability to do it

If there was somehow more incentive to buy the game than getting it for free

Games being worth the price

I don't pirate.

If I see a game I like the look of, I'll buy it. If I don't like it, so be it. If I do like it, even better. I've never really felt ripped off because I put a lot of time into forming an opinion on a game, anyway, so I can't really say I don't get my money's worth. The only time I've felt ripped off by a game purchase in recent memory is with that terrible Friday the 13th game. There's barely any content, the updates have broken the game even more instead of fixing it, and the developers have the gall to add in a paid DLC for a couple of skins.

>TPB is a honeypot
Do the government actually care about piracy? Everyone fucking does it

Nothing.

>late 90s/early 2000s: Here's the game, a fuckhuge instruction manual with custom art, and all the content on disk. Hell, even take a free memory card too if the game's too big. This is 60$ to cover the costs of shipping, packaging, store sales, etc. You can buy it used for about 15$ cheaper! Oh, and here's a demo so you know it's worth buying.

>2017: Uhh here's like, most the game. It's a digital copy so there's none of that cool shit and we're too lazy to include the soundtrack/art for you unless you want to pay $15. It's $59.99 unless you want the "full" game, that's $79.99.

>Sales? Maybe in about 3 years kid. No, I'm not giving you a fucking demo, you might realize its shit and runs like trash. You'll take what you get.

I'm pirating until I die.

Only if you're the one distributing and even then it would have to be a new and high profile release

>i'm not the only one who knows who ForneverWorld is
Guaranteed I'm the only one that knows about cobanermani456 though.

Increased encryption techniques so that games could not be cracked, and thus we would be forced to purchase the game. Also, online only games that I really want to play

having more disposable income and better games so i dont feel like 60 dollars is a rip off

Physical edition with the full game on DVD's or Blu-ray.

Nothing. Piracy is by far the most convenient method of getting games. No hassle with registrations, e-mail, PIN-number or anything, just cuntpaste the crack and play.

Free games.

>No hassle with registrations, e-mail, PIN-number or anything,
What the fuck games are you playing?

If I was rich.

Nothing. Suck my root.

>every console being backwards compatible
>every game having a digital version and at a reasonable price
>give EVERY SINGLE GAME a digital re-release so that it's not impossible to play in the future.

Many good reasons already posted by Anons.

One reason I'd add is if classic games, anything over, say, 5 years or more being drastically cheaper.

I collect and archive games. I went to pick up a copy of Diablo 1 for PC, checked Amazon, and it was 57.99 + 6 for shipping, sold by Blizzard officially.

I played that game over a decade ago. There's no reason to continue charging the same price as a brand new game. It could be sold for 5 bucks for collectors who want it for nostalgia's sake, since that's literally who would be buying it.

The EA-mentality of gouging gamers left and right is why people fight back with piracy. Our hobby is expensive enough without needless greed.

I will gladly pay a team the 60 bucks for a new game that they worked hard on. If it sucks, I need to be able to return that shit, or be given a representative demo, etc. This is to avoid the lies, hype, No Man's Sky type of shit.

But if I'm buying a 10 year old game, there's no excuse charging top dollar. That's just greed, and it pisses people off. Pissed gamers let you know with their wallet, with piracy.

Probably nothing. I don't really pirate current releases, but I'll download old console games all the time

>2 hours aren't enough free time
just watch a gameplay demo if you can't see everything you want in 2 hours.
if the game hasn't drawn you in within the first 2 hours, it's probably trash anyway.

Graduating and getting a software engineering job.

I meant with paying. Tropico 4 (when it was for free) required to make an account., verify the account etc.

Just use the search engine in qbittorrent or just get it from fitgirl.

Nah, I used to watch his sonic generation mod videos from time to time.

Really? I've only ever had that happen to me with GFWL and the Rockstar Social Club.

Games that actually pander to my tastes would be a good fucking start.

Proper, convenient, DRM-free downloads (that aren't bloated monstrosities that demand 50-100 GB of storage) at reasonable prices with a demo and the ability to put money toward that developer specifically in a way that is also convenient without having to buy the game to do it.
I generally don't pirate games anyway unless I want to emulate an old console title. I do pirate most other media though even if it's media I would have legitimate access to just because the pirate alternative is more convenient.

having localized prices in exact % of average wage
(most games should cost 3-6$ for me)

I pirate every game that:

>does not manifest its full potential
>has any amount of sjw-commie-jew-pro-degeneracy agenda
>has an unreasonable high price
>in any way makes me feel it doesn't deserve my money

Not living in a 3rd world country with average wage of 300$ per month.

Not having BR roots.

Only way I stop pirating is if a get a 7/10min fuckslut given for a month with the buy of every full price game.

If legal games were free.

Owning the games I buy.

This board has an unhealthy obsession with pirating, both for and against it.

for it to be more convenient to buy games. Good prices help too. I'm not going to buy anything that costs more than $30, period.

games prices are based on average salary by country
if my shithole has an average of 300$ per month im not going to buy a 60$ game
but that would be unfair to the rich ones and proxies and shiit would happen
so realistically nothing beside me living somewhere else and having a good job

giving me every single game for free until i die

Death penalty for pirating.
