Is the amiibo fad dying? Were they even a good idea to begin with?
Is the amiibo fad dying? Were they even a good idea to begin with?
make way for Funko Pop™!
Let's hope so. They're stupid and Nintendo keeps using them as physical dlc
There's just way too fucking many and the ones with actually relevant game changing content will get bought up instead.
>JoshyFunTime
And dropped
At least you don't need a Funko Pop to unlock a fucking difficulty in the new 3DS Metroid.
I swear to god if any other company tried to pull that shit they'd be chewed out by every "gaming news website" and fan, but Nintendo can do no wrong.
I never saw the last 3 waves of Amiibo in person. I had to order my Bayonetta, Splatoon 2, Metroid, and Monhun amiibos all online. It pisses me off.
There's never a decent stock of amiibo so the aisle always ends up either being empty or full of shit animal crossing characters nobody wants
the ones people DO want are just ordered online anyway
They'll never fail, sadly.
I still don't understand how people can defend physical DLC that is actually cut content like in Samus Returns.
If I had to guess they're just making room for more Switch stuff, since that's actually selling unlike the Wii U.
My local Game has one Amiibo. One.
HMV across the way has zero.
I feel like the West has been asking for figurine-style merch for years. Amiibos were the first true attempt at generating mass market appeal. I think the fact that there was a practical use helped to casualize it more.

Fuck off "Josh-O-Lantern"
you forget a major factor here (as long as that twitter retard)-
physical stores are becoming increasingly irrelevant. wouldn't be surprised if most amiibos were sold online.
that said, I've never bought one and likely never will. I don't like DLC, and physical DLC in this style is even worse.
>practical use
They basically held actual game modes ransom.
as well as that twitter retard*
just wait till ninty starts with micro transactions and we hear about how they were a good idea from the start but everyone just kept doing it wrong
>physical stores are becoming increasingly irrelevant.
how do you explain the two isles for skylanders then, nintenbro?
I'm not saying it wasn't sleazy as all hell, but it made it more acceptable to have a shelf of cartoon figurines on your wall. Can't really explain away an anime or comic collection of toys without just admitting you're a nerd.
good, now remove the rest of Trashtendo products.
>not only buying them to have figures of characters you like
>not using 40 cent nfc stickers to make your own amiibo tags to get free shit in games
sure is amateur hour in here
>isles
lol
>two isles for skylanders
what are you talking about?
Nintendo intentionally kept Amiibo supply low. The online market for them is much bigger than in stores.
>I'm not saying it wasn't sleazy as all hell, but it made it more acceptable to have a shelf of cartoon figurines on your wall. Can't really explain away an anime or comic collection of toys without just admitting you're a nerd.
That shit is irrelevant anyway, if you're making good money and take care of your looks you can get away with being a serial killer, let alone play videogames.
lets hope so, but we all know nintendo is just going to sell another plastic gimmick instead of focusing on games
>I feel like the West has been asking for figurine-style merch for years. Amiibos were the first true attempt
>implying nintendo invented skylanders
are you 5 years old, kid?
Considering they saved Nintendo from bankruptcy, and Nintendo is the only company that's trying, yes.
Why does this guy hate Nintendo so much? I consider myself a Sonyfag, but damn is he excessive.
Ya, the Target I go to shrunk down the Amiibo section but now they're selling Nendoroids. They've got the BOTW Link one so far and I expect more to come.
>saved Nintendo from bankruptcy
This is just inaccurate. I was under the impression they made SO MUCH from the Wii they could have multiple Wii U-level failures and be fine
>Amiibos were the first true attempt at generating mass market appeal
But amiibos were blatantly trying to cash in on the success of Skylanders, which had been around for a few years at least beforehand. Skylanders weren't even the first to do it, just the first to make bank on it.
maybe I would believe that they DID remove it, if you actually showed me the 4 amiibo left.
Dude, I'm talking about equivalents to posable anime merch, not shit you use for games.
>instead of focusing on games
Nintendo has been amazing with game releases this year
Of course not, but you underaged "muh toiz" fuckers were to blind to see it.
>Nintendo
>bankruptcy
>Considering they saved Nintendo from bankruptcy
That was the Wii user, they still have billions stockpilled in warehouses, this was just adding a few more quarters to the pile.
But by all means, keep believing whatever made-up bullshit you'd like to believe, it's what everyone on the internet does nowadays isn't it?
STOP SHILLING DIAPERFAG
Nintendo dropped him after he revealed how autistic and crazy he was. Don't blame them, but he still holds a grudge
Nintendo knows their audience all have the mental faculties of toddlers so they hide their microtransactions by including a cheaply made toy.
Ban this fucking joshposter mods, jesus christ. He spams this shit constantly
My local Target has been selling BOTW Link Nendoroid too. Honestly I'm surprised that a store like Target is starting to sell stuff like that
I want that pacman thing.
It may be shocking to think but is it possible that the Gamestop "Video game toy store" angle is actually working and Target took notice? OR is Target sinking like Gamestop and now they've stooped to selling toys w/ their video games to boost sales?
Skylanders are for kids. I see more young adults with Amiibo collections.
Amiibos are on Switch too
>shilling your twitter account here
the desperate lengths an attention whore will make
It's more like DLC than microtransaction
...
Brb ordering 200k copies now. Will be worth it
...
>how do you explain the two isles for skylanders then, nintenbro?
Skylanders is pretty much dead, too. Imaginators did so poorly that they're not releasing a game this year. Shame, too, the Switch version was kinda fun and they finally went away from fucking blister packaging.
>or niggers as I like to call them
>JoshyFunTime
He seems very sour to me all the time, though. What the fuck is his problem?
>>two isles for skylanders
>what are you talking about?
get out of your mom's basement once in a while, nintenfag. skylanders are still flying off the shelves
People with phones can make the NFC stickers
>buy packs of hundreds of NFC stickers on amazon/ebay/etc for maybe 5 bucks
>download amiibo data
>new amiibos generally take a few days to be uploaded either from the amiibo itself or datamined from the game info like with BOTW
>make amiibo stickers for self
>sell stickers on craigslist for 5 bucks a pop
amiibos were a great idea if they could keep them stocked
Target is the second biggest box store in America behind Wal-Mart, if they deem the product not worth having a lot of space for, it's not selling.
They wanted the Sup Forums audience
But the right Joy Con and the Switch Pro Controller have NFC readers built in to them
He got buttflustered when Nintendo dropped him as he was not being family friendly
People have been wanting figure representations of a lot of characters for a long time. I know Figma exists, but that's outside of a lot of people's budgets. World of Nintendo exists now, though, which are far more affordable and easy to obtain, if not slightly less quality. Used to be Samus, for example, had nothing until the Other M Figma aside from that shitty figure from ages ago. Now there are plenty of different ways of getting her.
Oh yes user
Despite having 1k billion money units they lost 1 million of those, they were really close to hit bankruptcy
yes, the only thing keeping it alive is nintendo's retarded investors who think physical DLC is the best way to print money
no
>I'm not lonely honest, look at all this plastic crap! I'm so happy.
Well, he certainly isn't making a good case for himself, going by the tweets that get posted here all the time.
>Were they even a good idea to begin with?
Even the mindless fanboys on Sup Forums won't say that they're good.
Shit like this is what I hate most about Nintendo. They try to hide their scummy business practices with a facade of innocence and those toothy jap grins "pray game rike u wur kid again!" "u hav friendu nao!" Fuck off you scummy goldfish tenders, you're selling crap to morons with permanent nostalgia goggles who would rather castrate themselves then admit Nintendo isn't the greatest thing on earth.
>popularity fluctuates
>can still find them easily online
also come on
>target
it's hard to argue with such a stylish fella
All of the autismos who have to collect them already have all the ones they want and there really isn't much of a market after that. Is there even any new games using the amiibo shit? I don't even own any of the games that need them except for Animal Crossing so I only own 2.
>all that content lost to time because of these toys
t..t. thanks nintendo
He doesn't need to, Nintendo ain't taking him back and he knows it
...
I think they released too much of them.
Loved the concept at first but they're not that cheap and I can't churn out that much money when I want to collect them. At some point you can't keep up and lose interest.
It was pretty much something that fans of the series they were based on would be wanting in the first place. If it wasn't for scalpers, it really wouldn't have become as big of a deal as people had claimed them to be. Nintendo were right in their initiate estimate of how many would sell.
>Is the amiibo fad dying?
I fucking hope
>Were they even a good idea to begin with?
No
>Cozmo
that looks pretty cool
I literally only bought the AC ones because they were cute.
No. Metroid and recent wave of Zelda amiibo still sold out.
>>not only buying them to have figures of characters you like
Yeah I don't because they look like fucking trash and I have standards.
Wow you're cute
Literally /myguy/
>World of Nintendo exists now, though
It fucking predates amiibo
>get out of your mom's basement once in a while, nintenfag.
he was mocking your illiteracy, dumb fuck. it's "aisle"
>a good idea
For Nintendo? Sure, retards bought them in droves. They must've made fucking bank selling those little happy meal toys for 2000% markup.
I'm almost inclined to take a loan from the local mobster but then I'd have to kill myself too.
They are actually pretty high quality, all things considered.
Mcdonalds toys
user, kill yourself
The only one I bought is metaknight because I like him and there's literally nothing else of him if you want plasticshit.
Kirby at least has a nendo, a cool japanese magnetic toy with detachable limbs from 10 years ago and other figurines.
I don't have any metaknight merch, and I've been in the same room as his jp voice actor in real life.
Stop posting this jackass.
Well thank god if its true.
Nice, is there a story behind this?
It was a Kirby event and I only realized who he was after the fact. He wasn't there in an official capacity or anything, just visiting.
>skylanders are still flying off the shelves
Again, untrue. Imaginators did so badly compared to the previous games that they didn't even release a new game this year. They're instead releasing more variants and actually doing a fucking UPDATE PATCH for the first time EVER to give those variants their actual variant colors ingame.
t. Skylanders collector
They were physical DLC that Nintendbros defended because it's okay when Nintendo does it.
>People are actually believing and using a man in a fucking diaper as part of their argument since he's anti-Nintendo
The state of Sup Forums
>Never keep the fucking things in stock anywhere
>Under supply everyone so at best scalpers vacuum them up immediately and leave the shelves bare for weeks to months at a time afterwards
>Stop sending out the ones that sell regularly
>Stores decide not to bother keeping sections for them
Wow gee what a surprising turn of events. The Walmart I work at barely has any Amiibos as well because we never fucking get any sent to us, even when we were selling the BotW ones hand over fist on a near-daily basis.
Not really, just certain lines. Animal Crossing's figurines were never particularly popular outside of Japan, and the Smash and Super Mario lines have reached that saturation point wherein everyone who wanted one got one already.
On the other hand, the Kirby line is still doing decently, and the Zelda line is still flying off shelves. Amiibo's bubble has popped, but on average it still continues to be profitable.
Wii-U wasn't a failure though.
They made profit. I mean sure it wasn't Wii and DS levels but they still made bank.
Cozmo is pretty cool. I think Penny Arcade did a neat review of it, but all I can find is this shitty comic.
