Yes.

no

Golden Sun book 1 and 2 are my fav GBA games after Pokémon R/S/E but I wouldn't say they are amazing games.

One of the best gba games, fag.

In retrospect, yes. It's horribly designed. However, I still have fond memories of it

You're a bad game

No, it's really great. Even people who weren't into RPG's were praising this game back in the day.

The long cutscenes kill it for me

it was pretty groundbreaking at the time. It looked so good on GBA.

While it isn't a bad game, it isn't a great one.

Masterpiece. GS 1 and 2 are awesome. Shits on every FF, even VI.
GS3 is not so good tho.

Your face is horribly designed.

No
It's not 10/10, but it's well above average

Not bad, just overrated. Can't take anyone seriously who says it's the best jrpg but it's still got some nice things about it. Just wish the dialogue wasn't so painful to get through, and I play a lot of heavy dialogue games.

It's pretty bad.
Only good fight is Vs Saturos after a Trentskip.

You're only going to like it if you played it before you tried a bunch of JRPGs or you are very accepting of its shortcomings.

The sequel had more text than the fucking bible.

What are Camelot Soft even gonna do at this point? Keep pumping out Mario sports games?

They blew it hard with Dark Dawn.

bretty gud

What is the best jrpg?

The guys who were actually good at making RPGs at Sonic!/Camelot gave up on RPGs or left a looooong time ago, user. Aside from Shugo, that is.

Regardless of your opinion on Golden Sun 1 and 2 as games in their own right, all of their Shining entries and sports RPGs were much better. GS was the beginning of Shugo's decline as a director and Dark Dawn is proof that he just doesn't get it anymore.

It's decisively mediocre. OST is killer, but the series is massively overrated by its fans.

Indisputable answer:
Good battle system for a JRPG
Looks fantastic for a GBA game
Decent puzzles
God tier soundtrack
Derivative but surprisingly interesting setting
Awful, poorly paced story

I loved it to death. The Djinn system is unique, the overworld puzzles were challenging enough to actually feel like real puzzles, the graphics were pretty much the very best of any GBA game when it came to the summon animations, and the music was phenomenal. I don't get why people are torn over the story: it was the characters, not the story, that made the game feel so personal.

>Looks fantastic for a GBA game
I'd argue that. The aesthetic is a bunch of stupid choices that only really work for at-the-time wow factor. Stuff like all the overbearing particles, high-res images being dragged around in lieu of animation, and the map being put on a plane for Mode 7 style shenanigans despite being drawn in such a way that it looks awful rendered like that. If it wasn't trying so hard and was more like Mario Tennis GBC or GBA it'd be pleasing, but it goes too far.

>Decent puzzles
Most of them are pretty bad and tedious. There's a few okay ones.

>Good battle system
In theory, yes. The problem is that it's obscenely easy to break most of both games and the encounters are more drawn out than fun or challenging if you don't cheese them.

Everything else you said is correct, though. I really wish the djinn were part of a better balanced game, it's a great system.

I liked the class system and the summons.

it's a great game. it's just not a great "golden sun" game.

not really

It's not that great, it ticked all the boxes from a gameplay perspective (neat battle system, for the most part a well designed overworld with a decent variety of places to go) but I'm sorry to say the writing and characterisation was abysmal.

I don't think it matters. I'd say overall it was mediocre, but it left a lasting impression and I enjoyed the journey.

Dark Dawn is definitely a bad game though.

Mediocre at best

You forgot

>Kraden existed
Lost Age's dialogue was such a fucking slog to get through just because of him holy shit.

There is no definite best. All of them have enough flaws to not outright triumph over everything else.

It's really good.
