Video games are only "fucking boring these days" if you exclusive play AAA western games and/or the current meme game of the month. Lots of great indie and Japanese games came out this year. Persona 5, Danganronpa V3, Puyo Tetris, Cuphead, Nier Automata, and we still have Mario Odyssey coming. Maybe you just have to broaden your horizons?

Games are designed to be incomplete and full of instant gratification and rewarding trivial tasks. This is at odds with the gaming you most likely grew up with.

as a kid I'd play fucking anything from racing sims to RTS to harvest moon
now I have a very narrow-ish field of things I'll play and it's probably why I can't find anything I enjoy right now
