you are literally missing final fantasy 7
the final fantasy 7 of citizen kanes
nothing good
The best Final Fantasy game.
The Dark Souls of Final Fantasy
You missed one of the greatest games of that era. Not worth playing today if you missed out though.
Never played it either. I stopped at FF5.
/thread
A game that's definitely dated but still has a lot of charm and a great tone conveyed through standout music. youtube.com
but it's really not
one of the best rpgs. and something you can reeeally sink hours into if you wanted to, trying 100% it. tons of depth. theres a reason its remake is something people have wanted but are also weary of. the game still holds up despite its graphics because of its characters which are charming.
Something below Orcarina of Time.
please enlighten us with what is the true best ff game. cant wait to hear "6, 8 or 9" and have you be wrong.
except it is
youtube.com
best rpg of all time
slow, clunky, unengaging gameplay with an interesting story twist if you're willing to put in a large amount of hours
my fucking sides
this reminds me of only levelign up your starter in pokemon and having it be like level 36 by the third gym
But 6 and 9 are actually better, 8 is just a meme game people pretend to like.
A high tier first part that deteriorates as it goes
6 is garbage in the same tier as 8
6 is an amazing game. a real joy to have played. but lacks the depth that 7 has. with 7s materia system, chocobo breeding, obtaining all ultimate weapons and ultimate limit breaks for all characters, optional weapon bosses, obtaining all summons. what does 6 have? getting 100/100 spectators happy? literally no depth so you beat the game and have no reason to go back.
9 is just "MUH FEELS the game"
>the depth
>list of shallow things
hmm
The greatest game ever.
An overhyped rpg whose relevance relies solely on nostalgia and waifus
Standarish plot, but done rather well due to good atmosphere. Avoids the usualy JRPG random battle grind by using mini games and events instead.
While often blamed for the kick off of FMVs they are short and not frequent. Lots of atmosphere with good sound design. Some may debate the designs but I liked the painted backgrounds and even the lego people field models, though for those don't like those you can mod them out.
If you played 6 its similar in story but different in art style.
love it
a game with dated graphics that is often mocked and stereotyped
however, the gameplay still holds up
the characters are great and some of their backstories are legitimately sad and well written
and the biggest twist in the game isn't talked about much because a smaller, less relevant twist is much more famous
go play it, it's really good
8 is my favorite game in the series even if i think it has objective flaws
i think the subjective best is either 5, 6, or 7
i know a lot of people like 9 but i think it's too bland and boring
>What am I missing.
Aeris' death.
as individual systems they my be shallow or simple but regardless they arent neccessary but their addition to the game only served to add more to the base game. they are depth. 6 had literally nothing like that. all of that in 7 are things that ask you to explore, to continue leveling, to come back and reload that save file before you killed sephiroth. its collective addition just serves to add depth to the base game
it's probably one of those games you had to play at the time. You won't appreciate it as much now but it sure was great back then.
content gated by shitty minigames must be the deepest something goes
6 and Tactics are best. Not sure if Tactics counts though. 7 is high up there though. I don't know how much I'd like it now but I was an angst-ridden teenager when it came out and I loved it.
Not true.
This has to be bait. If it isn't, explain yourself.
literally like 5 things are behidn minigames. golden chocobos thus knights of round table, clouds omni slash, and wow thats not even 5 things, i lied. the rest is in the world and again, asks the player to come back and explore.
Simple.
There are good games, Final Fantasy VI does not enter that category.
There are garbage games, Final Fantasy VI enters that category.
Therefore the statement "Final Fantasy VI is a garbage game."
6 is worse than 8.
I would rather the people who say 6 is good explain themselves for once. It has some of the worst gameplay in the series
I loved FF7 as I already said in an earlier post but some of the extra endgame shit in that game was just distilled autism.
I didn't even enjoy FF8. I mean I get that these are opinions we're talking about here, but I just don't get what some of you guys saw in that game.
You'd appreciate it a lot more now, I'd say. There's a lot of subtleties to the storytelling that angst-ridden teens completely miss.
Did you know that Sephiroth didn't kill Aeris? It was actually JENOVA. The Sephiroth you were chasing all game? Yeah, that was JENOVA all along. It wasn't pulling boss monsters out of its ass in your previous confrontations, it was literally flinging pieces of itself at you.
The real Sephiroth is a frozen upper torso deep within the Northern Crater.
6's popularity is built entirely on contrarian hipsterdom and became a meme
>friends all raving about ff7
>play it
>dislike everything I'm seeing after midgar
>drop it
I didn't understand the appeal.
FF6 has a ton of new things in the advance version, but i still have to play 7 to know something about it.
>and the biggest twist in the game isn't talked about much because a smaller, less relevant twist is much more famous
I still can't believe how well done that is. Not only did they hide the real twist behind Aeris Dies, but they made it so that it's impossible to spoil without explaining the context.
"Cloud was there in Nibelheim" really doesn't sound like a spoiler until you understand what it means.
this was the strangest thing when I realized it. The Seph you see all the time is the Jenova that broke out of Shinra tower, under the real Sephiroth's mind control. And then for combat, it throws body parts at you that fight you while the rest of the body flees.
FF7 is harder than dark souls all of psx is harder
your opinion is shit like your mom, your existence and everything you will do in your life.
this. one of the greatest plot twists of all time. excellent foreshadowing and execution.
One of the best Final Fantasy games.
ive played the game for years and i never realized this until right now, reading your post. it all makes sense now. it all makese sense why you fight jenovas when sephiroth shows up. fuck.
Never played when ff7 came out
Every Souls is harder than just about every Final Fantasy, the only contenders are IV DS and V
>The Seph you see all the time is the Jenova that broke out of Shinra tower, under the real Sephiroth's mind control.
Y'know, the funny thing is there's enough evidence in the game to make it very uncertain who's actually in control between JENOVA and Sephiroth. When you think about it, who would really win in a clash of wills - an ancient planet-devouring monster with a history of mindrape and impersonation, or a dying super soldier who'd been set up by Hojo so he'd go insane?
which makes their statements more relevant than yours
when you were the poor kid with the off brand console and could only afford two gamers per year, it was a godsend because of the amount of content
meanwhile everyone else with name brand systems and mountains of games had better times with better titles
If its 2d or from the psx era its automatically harder than dark souls
What's so great about 9? Because it's certainly not the gameplay, which was not only extremely basic but slow as fuck.
you get to fap to that Tifa titjob hentai and appreciate it on a more metaphysical level
Its really not, Souls games are harder than any of them.
Why is it for my generation it was such a big game. Just like mgs and oot and 007
They still play it every year.
>souls games harder than anything
should play it. blind.
that way you can be disappointed with the rest of us when FF7R comes out
>They still play it every year.
maybe the autists, or yet still extremely poor kids which still haven't gotten a new game
those poor souls
>souls games are easy meme
You're missing the Half Life of jrpgs.
Nope in souls all you do is grind and the enemies are in the same place.
If you grind you can beat the game easy.
Also shitty mechanics that lets you glitch the game so enemies are easy as shit.
In ff7 you grind grind grind grind. Difficulty never lets up. Unless you get everything in the game. It offers more content than dark souls. Also the controls are harder than dark souls.
All psx games are harder than dark souls
I mean, I may not be good at older games, but I find many NES games kick my ass a lot harder than Dark Souls.
>souls games are adequately balanced and a fair challenge
No its a love of the game. It was quintessential to their upbringing. It would not be the same without ff7
Also more loved games
Resident evil 2
Splatterhouse
All 2d Mario's
Megaman x
Sonic
No mercy on the 64
Alttp
Super metroid
Gta
>he think souls games are harder than your average 8-bit era game
Never played a snes game in their life
aside from speedrunning autists, i've never heard of a person that replays any of those games every year
that's sad
Even psx games
The closest thing in difficulty I can think of for dark souls is phantasy star online which is not that hard
The best game ever made
Obviously your younger than 20 years old
>FFVII the easiest of the PS1 games
>having difficulty that never lets up
This is some next level shitposting.
Just because there are harder games, doesn't mean that everything that isn't as difficult is easy, that's just a retarded way of thinking.
Not exactly balanced, but definitely challenging
I never said that dipshit, sorry that your dick gets tied in a knot whenever someone doesn't follow the Sup Forums meme of souls being super easy games that can be beaten in 10 minutes with one hand while doing pushups.
I've played and beaten multiple SNES games, in fact I grew up on the system.
Sure you did
Materia system, i godamn love it. Especially with the mentality of needing getting everything, its fun. Each materia obvs has a different thing. Quad magic/summon was insane
Cept
>knights of the round 4 times and unskippable
>grind for 2 years and 3 months
WHAT THE FUCK
Wasnt vagrant story or something for the psx like dark souls
>heh, s-sure you d-did
Grow up.
Tactic's and XII behind it. Most of the games including VII have the worst dialogue in the history of video games.
How you reacted proves your full of shit
You won't really enjoy it if you didn't play it at the time. The graphics aged like shit.
It's difficulty stays the same
Played it at release. Have a regular copy, greatest hits (disc 3 was a bit iffy turned out it was the laser going out), and the PC version. Even found secrets not in the guide.
Care to tell me how it isn't a super soldier goes mad plot, but just done well as it hypes the villain all game? Or how its not like 6 with a plot machine vs nature with a mad man as an enemy?
Or perhaps dispute that tons of dumbass youtubers site it as the cause of movies as games when in outside of the establishing intro and the ending FMV most of the FMV moments are only a few seconds?
Or maybe you just didn't do the materia well enough and had to grind like crazy rather than enjoy snowboarding and bitch slapping your way to the next boss fight without any grind?
And its soundtrack is Megaman tier memorable PS1 was sort of the last console I think to really have that sort of sound design that sticks with you forever, I miss that.
It brought us this meme
m.youtube.com
4 is the obvious best of you've played all of them, it's like the inverse of X
Because muh Goku ripoff in a cliche fantasy story
I'm really not, I've finished Earthbound, ALttP, Mario World, Tetris Attack, and Chrono Trigger, hell CT is actually my favorite game of all time, and I've played many other games, I'm at the end of FFV and Secret of Mana, I've played FFVI, Pac-Attack, Mario Allstars, Donkey Kong Country, etc.
That's right, it does stay mostly the same, its easy throughout with the occasional difficulty bump on certain bosses.
Final Fantasy 9 has Garnet who is the sweetest, most caring, most intelligent, most beautiful, most amazing girl to have ever been born
I think 9 shoved all its character charm into about 3 or so characters and the rest were there to fill a slot. So I get the attachment to Garnet.
Crystal Chronicles
I'm not attached to her, I'm in love with her
4 is unironically the worst, it's the most bland and boring and the only things it brought to the table (ATB, an actual story) were done better by literally every single game in the rest of the final fantasy series
it had good music though, that's the one thing FF4 has that is notable
You mean the genericist, most generic, most generic, most generic, most generic girl to have ever been born? because that's the only way I can make sense of anything you said
Dagger is worthless and one of the worst characters in her own game
You probably want to fornicate with the disgusting rat beast like a disgusting animal that you are, Garnet is sweet and caring and pure, she loves her Kingdom and will make an amazing she is a beautiful and loving woman
She's best girl.
now now. BOTH your waifus are worthless and stop being relevant to the story after their particular arc ends
