For Hojo, Sephiroth was his most brilliant and perfect creation, but for a scientist, perfection isn't enough, and the search for improvement is never ending. So for Hojo, the only thing better then one Sephiroth, is multiple ones. So he never stops trying to make clones of him. When he came across Cloud's shredded remains, they were also the remains of supposedly the man who killed the real Sephiroth. His body at least seemed to have potential then, so he took this chance to make another clone, but for him, he saw the clone as just another failure like all the others. That's why. It was just Hojo being in the right place at the right time while always trying to clone Sephiroth.

Explain how Cloud was able to defeat Sephiroth back in Nibelheim without speaking of anything such as "the power of determination" or "because Sephiroth had a injury". She was a ancient, a old race, and Red XIII was also seemingly from a old race since his father was around so long ago. He assumed that their lineage may have been connected a long time ago, so he wanted to see if they were compatible. If it failed, no harm no foul, but if it worked, like he said, he would have saved two species from extinction.

Basically, two parts made Sephiroth as amazing as he seemingly was, his mind, and his power. When he went insane, he lost part of his skills, his mind for battle. Distracted by his madness and focus on his mother, he got stabbed in the back by Cloud, nerfing him to be defeated. When you think of it this way, it makes sense. If he was in his normal state of mind, he wouldn't have been so distracted in the first place. He would have turned around as Cloud approached, and would have sliced him clean in half before Cloud could have stopped running and tried to get away.

That too. Literally a entire game could be made around Hojo as the ultimate enemy. Dealing with his monsters. Dealing with the people tainted and controlled by him. Attempting to convince Shinra Executives to stop him, only to have the president consider those people a obstacle and have them assassinated by the Turks. Hojo had more credit to his part of the story then he needed to have, which was great.

He was both. He was born at level 20, and grew up believing everything he had ever done he earned through hard work and determination. That he earned everything justly, and while he felt that he was stronger then a normal person was suppose to be, he was part of Shinra and knew others that were also stronger then normal, the people in SOLDIER. He probably just tried to ignore himself being that different and pushed it into the back of his mind. Learning he was a experiment was a way of God telling him "his whole life is predestined, and nothing he has he actually earned, he would have gotten it anyways". His whole life was a lie set to auto pilot.

That he didn't really have a life. That he was just a puppet that had no control of his own life. If he wanted to be weak, he couldn't. If he wanted to love someone, his power would scare them away. If he wanted to quit Shinra, he would likely be hunted for the rest of his life if he did. He learned that he doesn't really have a life with a goal now. Then he learned that his mother, the only thing that gave him something genuine outside of predestiny, died because of humans. The same humans that quit literally made his life the way it is. So he clung to his mother's ideals, and that's how he progressed into what he became. He finally was free from his predestiny, and didn't have to care about being hunted because he didn't need to care about having a normal life anymore.

No. He believed JENOVA was his mom and never directly says who he believes his dad is(he starts laughing before saying the name).

He does not. He lived his whole life believing that Jenova was his mother because of what he read in the mansion. Perhaps if he knew that Lucretia was the one to give birth to him, and died doing so, things would have turned out different. He likely would have tried to kill Shinra entirely instead of stopping at the president, and probably go live in a different town or something under a different name.

If I recall, I don't think he ever got the chance to bone her. Hojo made up lies to make her trust him more then Vincent. Hojo caused her to break up with him, and get with Hojo instead. Which lead to the experiment, with Hojo convincing her that this was for the sake of science, when really he just saw her as a guinea pig, not caring if she died or not. Actually, it would be better for her to die in child birth, that way, there's no chance of her finding out about Hojo's own lies. She was basically the type of stupid bitch easily swayed by a celebrities words.

When it was Cloud and Tifa at the well, that was Cloud. He dreamed of joining SOLDIER, because he wanted to be a badass like the famous Sephiroth. In the flashback at Kalm, with Cloud and Sephiroth, that Cloud was Zack, and one of the two in the outfits and masks was Cloud.

Hojo states that he is a failed experiment, made after the real Sephiroth died a few years ago. And we see Hojo coming across Cloud's messed up body. And Hojo working in the lab while Cloud and Zack were stuck in the tanks. So in a way, its not explained in a single picture, but all the pieces are there between the two explanations.

Sephiroth taking on that dragon while taking jack shit damage from it was one of my favorite moments.

hojo didnt give him powers. he was a test subject, a ginea pig to refine the SOLDIER process. it gave him soldier abilities but fucked with his mind. this is why he started thinking he was his dead friend.

It's pretty weird how Zack is only first mentioned like once by name in disc 1, where it's optional. Normally games make the foreshadowing really obvious, but you legit don't know what the fuck is going on through most of this game, and it's fucking huge. FF7 still remains fairly unique in that aspect.

Zack isn't mentioned by name, but if you go to the bottom of the Shinra mansion the notes mention that two, not one, test subjects get away. There's a lot of little nods like this that don't really let you know what's going on but make more sense in hindsight.

Zack is mentioned by name if you go to his hometown (Gongaga) and speak to a specific NCP. You also get additional dialogue from Aeris explicitly talking about him if she is in your party.

okay so, when you join SOLDIER they pump you full of Jenova cells, and then Mako energy. The Jenova cells work their way into your body and they absorb the Mako and use it to make you stronger. But Jenova is basically The Thing and even the tiny amount of cells they pump into you will try to overwhelm you, so you need a strong will to become a member. When Cloud tried to join SOLDIER the recruiters tested his will and were like "Nah, you're too much of a bitch to join" so he became an MP instead.

Later on, however, after Sephiroth went fucking insane, Hojo shanghaied all the survivors as test subjects. Hojo, if you'll recall, does not give a fuck about gay shit like "ethics" or "human lives" or "unleashing space horrors on the world". He just wanted to test out his weird Reunion theory and see if he could make a bunch of surrogate Sephiroth clones by pumping people full of Jenova cells and mako.

Most of the people he pumped that shit into turned into the men in the black cloaks, who were essentially mindless puppets drawn by the will of Jenova. That's largely what he wanted to make, and so he was happy with them. Zack, being a big buff SOLDIER, got gallons of that shit pumped into him and shrugged it off without even noticing, so Hojo got bored with him. Cloud was the weird one: he was too much of a weak bitch to join SOLDIER, but not quite as much of a weak bitch as the other test subjects. So, Cloud didn't get overwhelmed by the Jenova cells, but the stress they placed on his mind combined with some pretty bad mako poisoning caused him to go totally fucking insane and allowed Jenova to still exercise some influence on him. This is also basically what SOLDIER treatments were, which is why he gets big and strong afterwards.

He spends the first 80% of the game as a totally unhinged maniac and nothing he says or does makes any sense because Jenova and Tifa are both manipulating him in different ways for different reasons.
