So I picked up Metroid Samus Returns, loving it so far, but my only complaint is fucking save points...When are games going to give up this archaeic method of gameplay? Seriously it REALLY killings me enjoyment and playability when I can't save it when I want. My play style is usually sporadic, and not in long stretches. So when I start playing I don't want to start something an then not able to save, so it makes wanting to play very hard. I love this game, it's gorgeous and fun, but it's just the stupid save points are killing it for me...

Anyone else agree?

Nope just you, also git gut

Just close your 3ds

Save points can be good if they are used to create tension in a game

All I'm gonna say is speed running. You need them to manually choose when and where you pick up after a death/rage quit, and this is a game that encourages you to play again as fast as you can. If they bother you so much you could just rely on autosaves that happen before and after boss/metroid kills.

That's hilarious because this game is already made easier than previous entries with generous check points. In earlier Metroid games save points was the only way to continue.

In all seriousness though this isn't a real issue because Metroid 2 is a compact game and you're never more than 30 seconds away from a save point.

This game is harder than other Metroid games.
Lose focus for a moment and you'll run out of life real quick.

>A system that can stay powered on in sleep mode for several days
Close the 3DS and pick it back up when you want to start playing again. It already has constant checkpoints for ease of use without letting people soft reset any time they get a boo-boo.

why do people buy game guides anymore? the internet is a thing that exists. you are, in fact, on it right now.

Most Metroid games have save stations right before boss fights anyway. The checkpoints were made more prevalent because of all the Metroids.

i know the perfect place for casual faggots like you to discuss the game better

>That's hilarious because this game is already made easier than previous entries with generous check points

Like it in a way, because the auto-check points are only for bosses, which means some bosses like the Drill can be much harder without too much worry, because you can easily try again.

It does take away from the atmosphere, however.

If you mean someone with an active normal social life, and not a sad pathetic sack of shit addicted to playing in a fantasy world...then yes I'm casual as fuck. Enjoy your virgin lifestyle

...Just put it in sleep mode?

It's intrinsic to the design. Quit being pleb.

And just how long does the 3DS battery last in sleep mode when it's flashing the red warning LED?

about 2 hours when flashing
over a day from full charge

SR puts save stations fucking everywhere though. You can't walk five steps without tripping over one.

no. that's completely false, it does NOT last 2 hours when red while asleep. You may have 30-45 mins

You're more pathetic for acting superior when you think you have to defend yourself to an anonymous shitposter (NeoGaf is pretty bad, normie or not there are a lot of retards on that website), but I'll admit that's a nice wallpaper you have there.

Yeah I was gonna say that 2 hours seems overly optimistic. When that warning LED starts flashing my impulse is to find a save station and turn the system off until I can recharge it, not put it into sleep mode and pray the battery lives long enough for me to make it to the charger.

In sleep mode? sure it does, my N3DS was red (not flashing) for twenty minutes before I went to bed, plugged it in but didn't notice it wasn't plugged in the outlet, woke up about two and a half hours later to a blinking red light and plugged it in. So it might even last longer than 2 hours.

Save points have been in games for a long time and help to add tension and planning. You can always close your 3DS and generally it's easy enough to make it back to one if you're venturing into unknown territory and dont know where a new one might be.

Just get better, some games work fine with autosaves some dont.

If you're playing sporadically, why is the battery getting so low to begin with? If you're picking it up and putting it down, you should be able to get a couple days out of it with sleep mode inbetween, at least two or three, and I doubt you can't charge your 3DS at least once every two days. I think you're just making up excuses and baiting at this point.
Hell, I have a launch 3DS, those things are hot garbage for battery life, and I've still gotten a couple hours in sleep mode on red battery.

>a-at least i have a life

How to tell when someone has lost an internet argument.

>this is what Sup Forums has become

We did it, Reddit.

I'm not baiting shit. I have a o3DS XL from 2012 and the battery goes from "everything seems fine" to "oh fuck you better turn this shit off and recharge me right now" within the span of a few hours.

It's called tension. It makes progress more valuable.

>This game is harder than other Metroid games.

It really isn't.

wtf just close the fucking thing

>wanting to savescum through metroid
People like you are cancer. And besides the save points arent even that far from eachother.
