True, but 2012-2016 certainly didn't. That period was a total paucity of enjoyable vidya, with actually great games few and far between.

There was a long period where the industry was totally shit, and even now it only barely looks like it might be recovering. Most AAA offerings are still pretty crap in the Western industry.

When my favorite franchise, GTA, became a micro-transaction fest a couple years ago. That was the moment I realized video games have gone to shit

Personally I have greatly enjoyed nioh, cuphead, yakuza, sonic mania, nier, persona, hollow knight, dead cells, and even for honor. Couldn't get into BOTW personally. Also liked the FFXII remake (that 4x speed makes the game so much better) and kingdom hearts 1.5+2.5 but you can't really consider them 2017 games
