There was an episode (and also the movie) where Whis tells Vegeta and Goku about a state where their body automatically reacts on its own instead of having to think about their attacks or defense.

Somehow Goku achieves this state when his own spirit bomb hits him.

That sounds pretty cool. So I guess that gives him an edge since his movement is unpredictable. Or perhaps they become even more predictable, since there's no creativity there. Just pure instinct. Only a lot faster, since he acts before thinking.
