Star Trek Online did the smart thing by making your first ship be a Miranda Class. I loved piloting that old bucket around and held onto it as long as I could.

Watch The Next Generation, then Deep Space Nine. The Original Series is good, but it's not going to sell you on the series, it's a little outdated. Although after you've gotten into the universe, you'll likely want to go back and watch it like I did. Voyager was average, had it's ups and downs, mostly downs.
