I played it at release so it's been awhile but I really don't remember her being as obnoxious as everybody says.

It's not just Sup Forums though, she's one of the most hated characters in the series these days, at least in the West. I really don't get it. Yeah, her gimmick gets old but it's not that grating.

I feel like I could have liked D4 the most in the series if it wasn't for Fuka.
I don't understand how the fucking nips love her, maybe its just a translation thing.

I don't understand why people hate her, yes, she has a repetitive gimmick. Just like every other god damn character in the game. People aren't getting annoyed at SARDINES or money angel. What's so specifically wrong with Fuka?

Fuka twisted every single scene the moment she stepped onto the screen to be about her and saying it was all a dream constantly.
Every other character has these weird quirks, sure, but with Fuka that's literally all she ever had to say and she would bring it up literally every scene.
Also I felt like it was devaluing the scenes and belittle characters because she never did anything but call them figments of her imagination and would praise herself over how amazing her imagination is.

Pretty sure most people agree Axel sucked in 4, plus Axel Mode exists.

Axel adequately served the same function as half of the characters in 4, he was something for Valvatorez to play off of.

This one is Seraphina from D5.

She's probably the most likable character in the game early on, but while every other character undergoes a lot of positive character development, Seraphina actually gets more shallow over time, and dials up her petty bitchiness about 1000%. Saying why would be a spoiler, but once a certain character enters the plot, you'll see her start to change.

But when that character enters the plot the story is fuctionally over.

The first mention of that character's existence is what triggers Seraphina's petty yandere bullshit for the rest of the story, even if they aren't directly a part of the plot. Every line she says from that point on is some variation of "But why isn't Killia paying attention to ME!?" And then she shoots Red Magnus and Zeroken for the fiftieth time.

Only because she internally confirms her feelings for the protag by the point she's first mentioned. It's not like anyone had sterling writing anyway.

Artina is a decent character though. I mean, compared to Fuka is fucking great.

To be fair, Artina is Yukimaru Tier in terms of benchwarmers with almost no personality. It doesn't help that Seraphina has the same color scheme and weapon type.

Fun fact: Artina is voiced by Kitamura, who is also Homura, Juri, Sayaka, and Uni.

I played D4 in Japanese and absolutely loved Fuuka. I can only imagine D4's localization was bad or maybe the chuuni style character doesn't translate very well.

She herself wasn't exactly useful or amazingly interesting, but she played a part in furthering Eleanor's character and creating an element of "family" among the ships crew.

I didn't DISlike Yukimaru, but she was completely pointless. I can't think of any way that she or Fubuku contributed to the plot, other than establishing the village where Rozalin was born, which didn't justify how much time was spent on them. Plus, she joined well after I already had a sword-user and just kept the bench warm with Tink and Hanako.

I didn't include Flonne, Desco, Vulcanus or Usalia either.

How did Disgaea go from 1's great story and characters to this generic garbage every single game?

What's worse is that they whored D1's cast for years and reduced them to most basic character quirks, stripping them of all past development.

I actually liked 4's story and most of it's characters.
