Now that the dust has settled... what's your opinion on this game?
Uncomfy
it's shit overall
the bakers were cool characters though
Subpar
Gud gaem.
This is the way forward for RE, the just need to build on what they did with it. Definitely felt more like the originals.
"Good game but not a good _______ game" the game
Would have been a masterpiece if not for shitty enemies and the wet fart final "boss".
Capcom almost hade another RE4 but they stumbled in the finish line.
Is it worth £25?
They are releasing a version with all the DLC sometime SOON™.
Might as well wait for that.
it's kind of like breath of the wild; a neat but extremely unpolished first shot at a new concept that could make with some refinement. three enemy types plus a few boss fights is dull as it is, but it's honestly the awkward kind of short rather than the easily-replayable sort despite its emphasis on oldschool-style replayability
How long is dlc and how does it work in RE? Don't you have to play through the game a second time if you miss it?
the DLC are all separate content in their own modes/categories, and only a couple are actually story-notable as the rest are either non-canon or for-fun
really, only the Daughters DLC fills in more plot, and Not a Hero will be free and End of Zoe is going to have more story too
Shit combat ruins it.
>shit combat
Compared to what? Previous RE games? Lol.
Bet this n00b doesn't even crouch dodge.
I'll give RE6 and Revelations 1/2 this; they refined combat to the point that Mercenaries/Raid was solid fun and could allow for some real good shit. But the RE6 campaigns were dogshit, and it was as far from what people wanted in RE tone as possible.
I don't mind RE7 going the clunky FPS route for what it was trying to accomplish. It's just that only the boss fights really incited anything more than either weak point blasting, remote bomb abuse, or shuffling on by at the speed of a mildly-agitated zombie to avoid threats.
>literally 1 enemy
>garbage bosses
>1 hour long if you know what you’re doing
>shit weapon variety
>NO RE CHARACTERS
>2nd rate clone of outlast
its garbage
even RE6 was better because it had leon at least
*First-person ruins it
Along with the lack of enemy variety, shit enemy designs, weak story, lack of actual choice, and the final boss essentially being a QTE.
Stop trying to fit in.
REmaster>2>7>3>4>CV>0>>
Not an RE game, but it was so hyped up and shilled so heavily by everyone for months that I'm sure they're going to stick with this style now. Basically RE is officially dead thanks to it.
Where the fuck is the DLC?
Playable.
presumably for december
not a hero was originally outsourced but it wasn't meeting quality standards so the dev team personally stepped in for it and End of Zoe
>Shit combat ruins it.
The combat is actually perfect, they nailed a first person RE. Making Ethan shit at aiming and not using iron sights was super smart. If Ethan fires a shot, his crosshair will grow massively, and it takes like a second for him to recover from the recoil. This means there's a good trade-off between aiming and rapid fire most FPS games lack. They brought back an aspect of the original RE where there's a risk/rewarding factor for letting enemies get close. I also thought the block/crouch dodge feature was good additions which made it feel like you still had a last resort if you knew you were about to get hit.
December
>outsourced
To whom?
>RE is officially dead thanks to it.
Shit's been dead since 6.
Hell since 5 or arguably even 4.
I'll take more of this over 5 or 6
GOTY
>NO RE CHARACTERS
I fucking wish. Really hoped we could finally move away from the exact same people we've been following for so damn long but Chris still manages to squeeze his way in and get a DLC dedicated to him.
comfy, yet very spooky at the same time, and has decent combat
Bad enemy variety, killed off the best character way too fast and no, him being a fucking ball of goo at the end doesnt count, also the mine section of the game was fucking terrible, and so was the part with all the spiders or whatever. The boat was ok
death of the franchise, full of meme characters, marketer-kun ban evades as much if not more than XV-kun and won't stop sucking it's dick
Not an RE game, memefags on Sup Forums love it and claim it's like the originals they never played.
Shit game, fuck off shill. Nu-fun trash.
Anyone who disagrees with it being the best since 4 is wrong. It's a good game and a step in the right direction for the franchise.
only Marketerkun likes this shit
>comfy, yet very spooky at the same time
This, outside of the shitty little girl trope, I loved the tone and writing of the game.
Pre-release material made it seem like it was gonna be extremely horror focused only and be very serious. The final game however has a bunch of morbid humor; and like you said, it's suprisingly comfy at times, really like the save room theme. I'm glad the devs realized horror is just one part of RE, it's mainly about the feeling of being on a comfy-spooky survival adventure imo.
>it's kind of like breath of the wild; a neat but extremely unpolished first shot at a new concept that could make with some refinement.
I agree with this, both RE7 and BotW feel like proof of concepts with potentially amazing sequels.
This is a year where two franchises that have desperately needed a reinvention for many years got reinvented and did very well. We're lucky.
...
Felt like a return to form and yet fresh at the same time, especially coming after RE6. I hope RE8 follows a similar formula and then expanding on it more similar to RE1 to RE2.
imo it would be pretty boring if RE8 is just kind of RE2'ish, feels sort of predictable.
It seems like a natural progression though.
Amen to that
>three enemy types plus a few boss fights
And on top of that, the enemies are just boring pile of black goo, i understand that they might have wanted to not use zombies again but those just came as way worse, especially in contrast to the Baker family.
I know, which is why I would rather be surprised.
RE7 is the best RE since 4 and was a truly fantastic game with some flaws holding it back from being a masterpiece.
It really does feel how RE would of progressed over the years if action RE didn't take over.
I want more like 7 and its got me excited for the RE2 Remake being a good horror game and not a shit action game.
I stopped playing during the forced stealth section tape because I just hate that kind of thing, but I'll probably try it again at some point.
Liked the sound design and voice acting, liked how cluttered and detailed the house was. Jack was fun. Game feels like it's designed for VR, but I don't give a shit about VR, so it actually kind of annoyed me. Movement speed is a joke, which I again chalk up to VR memery.
Using part of the "L" for the second "I" in VII is stupid. They should have just incorporated the roman numeral into the title for Resident Evil 6, where it would have actually made sense without chopping letters in half: RESIDENT E(VI)L
It's like they thought of the idea after it was too late and then said, "fuck it, we're doing it anyway!"
But RE2 was always a silly action game
o-ok
Only played it in vr, fucking loved it
Pretty fun. I like the shooting mechanics. every single event is scripted so you cant get scared twice. i really only play it for the survival mode with clancy now.
Bretty gud, albeit a bit short and the game severely lacked some sort of additional bonus mode like the mercenaries or raid mode on release.
Yes, I know they added them through the DLC, but they should have been there from the start, just something besides the main story thing.
So if RE7.
RE are survival horror games with action in them but its not the main part.
RE6 is dog shit because its nothing but terrible action with no good level design atmosphere or pacing.
>reinstall game
>start new game
>remember that long ass unavoidable forced introduction
>exit game
>uninstall
That stealth section is the last bit of stealthing you have to do in the entire game.
Solid 9/10 game and I am also the only one whose opinion matters since I'm the only one who played the game as intended (with VR and HUD turned off).
I played it VR too.
And sadly its still the only reason to use a VR.
But granted holy shit is it good with VR,
>This means there's a good trade-off between aiming and rapid fire most FPS games lack. They brought back an aspect of the original RE where there's a risk/rewarding factor for letting enemies get close.
Not really. Normal molded are so easy to avoid its not even funny anymore. Even as a group you can just avoid them by simply walking. And by the time there are fat ones or spider ones(which are also shit at hitting you), the game will throw so much ammo for one hit weapons at you that you can just fire away as much as you like.
