N64 Mini

Ok, so it's obviously going to happen and considering how much of a bitch N64 emulation STILL is after all these years, this will actually be worth getting. What are the reasonable predictions for it?

>$80
>Two controllers
>15 games

1. Mario 64
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Mario Kart 64
4. Super Smash Bros.
5. Star Fox 64
6. Wave Race 64
7. Pilotwings 64
8. Paper Mario
9. F-Zero X
10. Mario Party
11. Kirby 64
12. Donkey Kong 64
13. Yoshi's Story
14. Pokemon Snap
15. Diddy Kong Racing

>Potential Replacements / Leftovers
Majora's Mask
Mario Tennis
Mario Golf
Excitebike 64
1080 Snowboarding
Pokemon Puzzle League
Dr. Mario

Third party support was famously lackluster. There were some great third party games, like Bomberman and Mischief Makers, that I would love to see included, but I can't imagine Nintendo would bother getting licenses for one game per company. I still don't understand how Pilotwings isn't on the SNES Classic but I'll be furious if Wave Race 64 and Pilotwings 64 don't make it in this one.

boy, I sure can't wait to purchase the 5th re-release of OoT!

>15
try 12

Make it one controller and sell additional ones at 15-20 bucks. No different colors of course, who's gonna pay for that? Not Nintendo.

I really had to laugh at this one. Thanks.

>Pokemon Puzzle League
i loved this game

Haven't you heard?

Next year's Classic Mini will probably be the Game Boy.

Snowboard Kids was a great Mario Kart clone.
I think. It's hard to see with the nostalgia goggles on.

Bro if Goldeneye ain't on there and it don't come with at least 4 controllers its a no buy for a lot of people

>Ok, so it's obviously going to happen
I doubt it will though. Only reason the NES- and SNES classic came out was because they could both use the same cheap board. For the N64 you'd need a new board, and like you said it's a bitch to emulate so even for Nintendo it would cost a fair bit making it not profitable. The fact that the NES is also being rereleased next year makes me doubt even more that they'll continue this "trend" of bringing out new generations of classics.

$150, 4 controllers, 10 games.
Not to cut corners on price, more like, they will because they can.

1-10 are all solid, last 5 on your list are either owned by other companies. I know Smash is also HAL and they're owned/licensed by Nintendo, RARE did the Kong games and it'd be hard to get them onto a nintendo system, Yoshi's story wasn't really a hit, and Pokemon Snap is too niche. I could see fedora's mask and a sports title or 3 making it onto the system if they went for more than 10 roms, but it'd be unlikely.

Also, they'll probably go with top selling that they have a licence on, so judging by this list:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Nintendo_64_video_games
Sort by Nintendo as the publisher, and stopping at 12 games, we'll get a pretty decent list

No Conker no buy

>Goldeneye

Banned/indexed at least in Germany, and it bears a relatively high age rating pretty much everywhere else.
Also, wasn't Goldeneye by Rare? Microsoft probably have their hands on that now.

>No Rogue Squadron
>No Jet Force Gemini
>No Turok

The publisher is still nintendo. They own the rights to the game

BUT!

What if they release a finished version of the N64 Mother 3 for the US Release?

youtube.com/watch?v=6pcd9VnnXSQ

see
They're not the publisher. They don't have the rights to it. If Nintendo was smart, they'd re-release the n64 with the original bios on it, give it an HDMI/A/V outlet on it, but make all the games they have the rights to, or can get the rights to, playable, and sell it for like $300 bucks

honestly, with rare replay and the n64 remasters on xbla/3ds there really isnt any point of this because they are sure as fuck arent gonna put anything obscure

No Harvest Moon 64 - no purchase

since when has a point been necessary for nostalgia marketing to be successful?

Gonna buy it for nostalgia and to load every game ever released onto it.

But don't think there'll be any Rare games on it, since Microsoft owns those games now.

I sure hope it comes with 2 controllers, but it'll cost 100$

theyll probably just rerelease the nes and snes mini in 2018

I think a Gameboy classic will be out first before the n64 classic. They have to make a brand new board instead of recycling the nes classic board yet again. Probably going to come in different variations like the OG Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy color.

only dk64 and maybe goldeneye if they can figure out the licensing bulshit

>Also, wasn't Goldeneye by Rare?
>The publisher is still nintendo. They own the rights to the game

I think you guys are missing the most important fact that it's fucking James Bond. I'm pretty sure Nintendo's not going to bother renewing the movie license from MGM, or whoever, just to re-release older games.

>No Rogue Squadron
Disney owns the rights to Star Wars. Rereleasing it will come at a hefty price.
>No Jet Force Gemini
Rare owns that, who is now owned by Microsoft. Once again, heavy licensing fees.
>No Turok
I don't know who owns Turok but it sure as hell isn't Nintendo. This is probably one of the cheaper licenses to get a hold of though.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love more third party N64 games but unless it's Capcom, Konami, or Hudson, it's going to be expensive to get those games.

I'd camp outside of a store of a week to get it. Star Fox 2 was a pretty surprising announcement but this would be fucking insane. It'll probably be a shitty game but still, this is one of those holy grails of lost or canceled games.

Give me fucking Gauntlet Legends on that shit and I'll preorder at any price..

I don't see any of the Rare original IPs being included anyway since they took those with them to Microsoft. And aside from Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Diddy Kong Racing, has anything else been remade? The majority of those games haven't had a new iteration, although most of them have been re-released on Virtual Console.

1. Super Mario 64
2. OOT
3. MM
4. Donkey Kong 64
5. Star Fox 64
6. DDK
7. Wave Race 64
8. Paper Mario
9. Mario Party 2
10. Super Smash Bros
this is about as realistic as it gets

Goldeneye is a legal nightmare the rights are in multiple places.

>I think you guys are missing the most important fact that it's fucking James Bond. I'm pretty sure Nintendo's not going to bother renewing the movie license from MGM, or whoever, just to re-release older games.
I think Activision has or used to have the rights when the 2010 Goldeneye came out. There exists a nearly finished Goldeneye remaster videos of it are on youtube but the rumor goes that Nintendo backed out at the last second because they also wanted a Wii port of it. Whether that's true or not I'm not sure, regardless the multiple license holders couldn't come to an agreement so a remaster never happened.

There is zero reason to play the N64 version of Turok 1 or 2 now that the remasters exist on steam.

It should be fine for Nintendo to include Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong 64, but that's it. Everything else would be a licensing nightmare.

As long as it's a handheld along with HDMI out, then I'll certainly get one. I can see Nintendo not including HDMI out though.

I'd enjoy that much more than an N64 mini.

It'd be nice if they had Pokemon Stadium 1/2 and it had compatilbility with the 3DS VC Pokemon games.

star fox 64 got remade on the 3ds

>Mario Party 2 instead of 1
That wouldn't make much sense. The first one is much more likely, and if not then they'll release the last one for the system. It's a real shame because MP2 is, by far, the best one in the whole fucking franchise. And I can see Nintendo putting in OoT or MM, but not both. Also, no Pilotwings?

Two reasons as to why the N64 Mini won't happen:
1 - 4 controller ports would force the console to be too big.
2 - N64 controllers are massive compared to NES SNES controllers. Not as easy to pack

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I'm surprised how many N64 games have gotten remakes.

>I don't know who owns Turok but it sure as hell isn't Nintendo. This is probably one of the cheaper licenses to get a hold of though.
Its either the company who bought Acclaim's assets when they went bankrupt or Night Dive Studios who made the remasters. Night Dive has never specified whether they fully own the rights or they were just licensed to them though.

>It should be fine for Nintendo to include Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong 64
Unless Microsoft play's ball and lets them use Banjo and Conker, they were removed the DS version of DKR. DK64 was only developed by Rare releasing it is no problem seeing as they already put in on the VC before.

I'm guessing $100 with 12 games.

This is whats on the eshop, so some variation of this. If we follow the logic of 3rd parties on NES & SNES, I could see Resident Evil 64, Megaman 64, Mystical Ninja & Mischeif Makers making the cut. If a deal is made with MS, my guesses would be Banjo 1, Diddy Kong Racing and Perfect Dark would be the most realistic Rare titles.

The only things wrong here are Mario Party 1 instead of 2, and Majora's Mask not making your A-list. If 15 is the limit, I'd cut Diddy Kong for Majora.

I see where you're coming from there but, if anything, I would just expect Nintendo to raise the price to $100. If they do that, though, then it better come with at least 20 games then. It'll be an outrage if it ends up being 10 games for only $100, but who am I kidding it'll still sell like fucking crazy anyway.

Also, I could see the N64 mini requiring a larger motherboard than the previous consoles so the frame will probably have to be larger anyway. And you can't tell me that the demand isn't there and Nintendo definitely recognizes that, even if they are shortening supplies.

i'd buy it if it was just a mario party 1-3 machine. too fun.

My nigga. Where's the Legends/Dark Legacy remaster? I'd kill to get that.

The first Mario Party won't be re-released because stick spinning

No Goemon no buy.

>Banjo and Conker
Good point, I forgot about that. Diddy Kong Racing is a definite no go, unless Nintendo edits some shit but it's extremely doubtful that they will. Ah well, there are already plenty of racing games anyway: Mario Kart and F-Zero are already sure inclusion with Wave Race as a likely one as well.

How the fuck do we have faulty N64 emulation with constant graphic tweaking to get stuff to work for different games, but the have perfect GameCube emulation with tools to make it look better than ever and modding for things like twilight princess.

N64 controller causes blisters if you spin with your palm and Mario 64 requires spinning. I'm sure some bright spark is gonna blister their palm and Nintendo doesn't want to deal with that.

Earthbound 64

>If a deal is made with MS
Nothing is impossible but Microsoft is undoubtedly aware of Nintendo's success with the their Classic Mini series. Microsoft would have to get paid mega bucks to to allow their properties to be used, if they're willing to sell at all.

Excellent point, I'm with on that one. I think I remember Nintendo saying how they don't want to bother porting or rereleasing MP1 specifically because of that, but I could be wrong. It's never been on Virtual Console either, if I'm not mistaken.

Add in Crusin' USA, Goldeneye, Ogre Battle 64, Pokemon Stadium, and definitely put in all of those games you listed as leftovers. I would actually buy it then. Oh, and an English version of Sin and Punishment.

Has a lot to do with the hardware. Processor was custom made with no sort of documentation available among
g other things. The Gamecube and the Wii were running on PowerPC chips which has been around for awhile and documentation is available.

>Implying the massive kikes at Konami would actually let Nintendo use Goemon.

>Excellent point, I'm with on that one. I think I remember Nintendo saying how they don't want to bother porting or rereleasing MP1 specifically because of that, but I could be wrong. It's never been on Virtual Console either, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah its pretty much exactly that, there's a reason they never did stick spinning mini-games ever again after MP1.

If either Goldeneye or Perfect Dark are somehow included on this thing, it'll have the highest purchase to return rate or any product ever. It'll sell out faster then either of the other two mini consoles, and then immediately returned when no one can deal with the absolutely shit controls. If Nintendo keeps doing their thing with the wired controllers, though, than it just might be bearable with a Wii Classic Controller or some shit.

>Pokemon Stadium without rental Pokemon
why

>considering how much of a bitch N64 emulation STILL is
Just werks on my Wii U. Except the horrendous controls.

Don't worry, Nintendo will be working closely with a third party company to also make a Mini N64 Controller.

Ninty registered the N64 mini trademark. It's happening

>Processor was custom made with no sort of documentation available among other things.
That would be true if it wasn't for the existence of Oman archive containing the technical documentation of the entire console inside out.

It's not going to have ALL that and sell for under $100, but I would absolutely buy it if it included everything, if only because N64 emulation is bullshit, EverDrive 64 and Ultra HDMI are pricy, and N64s are getting old and could be prone to hardware failure at this point. Mine is still going strong but it would be a damn shame to modify it only to have it die in a couple of years. The N64 Mini is the one that makes the most sense to buy.

>Implying the massive kikes at Konami would actually let Nintendo use Goemon.
Well, they were ok with Castlevania and Contra, so maybe? I could Goemon being left out though, which is a damn shame.

I really want Resident Evil 2 and both Castlevania's. Most likely will have 10 games and it will all be shit that is already available on Wii U. If they pull a Star Fox 2 I can see them getting Perfect Dark or Goldeneye.

>No C-stick

D R O P P E D

M$ and Nintendo are on good terms with eachother, Pretty sure they can work something out. Good publicity for both companies. Also I think Activision still owns 007 license.

It's ok on Wii U, but even then only the more famous games are on Virtual Console and there's a reason why the N64 library is so small on it. Try running Mischief Makers on an emulator. On Project64, certain 3D elements are invisible which makes the game unbeatable. On another emulator I don't remember, it has slowdown like a motherfucker throughout the whole game. Yeah, Mario 64 is playable, of course, but the vast majority of N64 games have been impossible to emulate.

>mfw it comes with 2 Hori's

>On Project64, certain 3D elements are invisible which makes the game unbeatable

bazinga

N64 games look terrible on Wii U. N64 emulation is very good on Wii.

This. I would not be hyped for this one other than to own it as collectible.

Even if they are on good terms, it's all about who stands to profit. Ideally, M$ should get a percentage per profits to keep things fair, which Nintendo certainly doesn't want. Aside from that, Nintendo could pay an upfront cost but it would have to be quite a large payment considering how successful it'll be as well as how sought after those Rare/M$ games are. If it happens though, the N64 Mini will be extremely sought after. If you though the scalpers were bad before...

Is it just the colors? I'm looking at a comparison right now and everything not on WiiU looks oversaturated

Will it still be blurry like the screen is covered in shit?

Virtual Console on Wii U in general is a fucking joke. There's more input lag on Super Mario World on Wii U than there was on Wii. It's such a fucking joke; like, how do you even fuck this shit up? Aside from a few excellent, excellent games, the Wii U is such a terrible fucking piece of goddamn shit on so many fucking levels. Yeah, I'm fucking mad. I'll get the Switch when it gets a hard price drop because fuck giving Nintendo too much money who am I kidding, they still have me by the fucking balls.

>yfw dinosaur planter

Not him, bit I do notice on Wii U it looks dim compared to Wii. Also I'm not sure but I heard games on Wii ran at 60fps. Star Fox 64 is an example of this. I may be wrong about that though.

>Ok so it's obviously going to happen
I... don't really expect them to put in the effort.

I would be interested in a Game Boy Classic if:
>Is the classic brick and can be played as a portable device
>Has a scaled up (still the real 160x144 resolution), backlit screen with GBColor functions included
>Menu in handheld mode sticks to the GB/GBColor limitations
>Link cable spot replaced by HDMI port, modern Nintendo controller port somewhere
>With a monitor and Pro Controller plugged in, it emulates SNES Super Game Boy

I want Blast Corps and Body Harvest. Just tried emulating the latter on default P64, and there's a bug which hard-blocks progress on Greece stage 3. And if you never played Blast Corps, you don't deserve an N64.

>stick
>for 4 directions
dumbass

>emulates SNES Super Game Boy
Not happening, that's a bit too much effort, but fucking hell that would be the tits right there. It still pisses me off that Super Game Boy was better than Game Boy Player in pretty much every way.

12 game 4 controllers
smash
m 64
oot
dk
pm
ys
007 goldeneye
sf

mortal kombat ?
120 $

No Banjo, no party

>4 controllers

I don't think they would give you those 2 extra controlles for party games, 2 controllers seems more likely, also 4 would increase the price.

Are Nintendo the Dark Souls of Todd Howard?

That'll be an expensive license to obtain, and Nintendo likely won't see it being worth it since Donkey Kong 64 is similar enough. I feel you though, BK would be an excellent one.

>Todd

...

I feel like Paper Mario, Wave Race and Mario Part 2 are guaranteed. Pokemon Snap is probably pretty likely given the Stadium games are pretty gimped without the GB adapter and Nintendo will definitely want a Pokemon title on this thing.

>Reasonable Predictions for it?

No games that weren't first party or else already on VC. A reasonable prediction would probably look like your list along with the following potential replacements/leftovers:

>Sin and Punishment
>Ogre Battle 64
>Pokémon Stadium 1+2

Japanese version will likely be inherently superior to whatever Western versions launch before hacking is involved since there will be non-zero odds of getting:

>Animal Crossing
>Custom Robo
>Doshin the Giant

Have the other mini classic systems been different by region? Also, Doshin is a shit game. It's just famous for being a franchise that has never left Japan as well as being a really early game with a moral choice system, but it's still shit.

>no goldeneye

who's excited for the wii u classic?

despite it only having 1 game BOTW a lot of people seem to have bought it, i cant find it at all

i bought one at best buy a few days ago no problem.

also pokken tournament is good

can we just skip ahead to the GBA mini?

can't wait to see the gamecube classic mini.

Melee
Sunshine

Wind Waker
F-Zero

Mario Kart
Kirby's Air Ride

Soul Calibur 2

I think Nintendo will go all the way and have 20 games

1) Super Mario 64
2) Donkey Kong 64
3) Paper Mario
4) Sin and Punishment
5) Starfox 64
6) Pilotwing 64
7) Wave Race 64
8) Yoshi's Story
9) Kirby 64
10) Super Smash Bros.
11) Custom Robo
12) Pokemon Snap
13) Pokemon Puzzle League
14) Mario Kart 64
15) F-Zero X
16) TLOZ: OoT
17) TLOZ: MM
18) Pokemon Stadium
19) Harvest Moon 64
20) Mario Party

2 Controllers

Cost: $150

>Ok, so it's obviously going to happen
Stopping ya right there, it's not.

>no harvest moon 64
>no resident evil 2

>money I can afford
>two controllers
>one of them atomic purple
>hacked within a week and fillable with the system's entire library
>Nintendo's emulator is just as spotty as Mupen

well back to the drawing board.

>Have the other mini classic systems been different by region?

Have you been able to find an unhacked SNES Mini with Fire Emblem in North America or Europe? You certainly can in Japan.
