Fighting games on a keyboard

A year ago I broke my wrist in a fucked up way and now I can't play fighting games with a stick anymore as the motions are difficult and start to hurt after half an hour of playing. I've been thinking of getting a hitbox instead, but as I also play a lot of shooters I was thinking about just getting a good mechanical keyboard instead, and use that as sort of a hitbox

is this a good idea Y/N?

I remember I bought a madcatz controller for my PS2 and the day I bought it it broke I was fucking pissed

they're not tourney permissible but they're fine for online.

>hitbox
just use your keyboard

Maybe you should just rest and take it easy until your wrist heals?

sounds good

what do I look for when buying a good keyboard that doesnt lock up?

it's healed by now, but the movement damage is permanent. It just slightly limits me turning my wrist and in daily life it's not noticeable, I only notice it when using a fightstick or playing guitar

>is this a good idea Y/N?

get a hitbox if you ever want to play at locals or even tournaments. those always use consoles, and you cant plug your keyboard in a PS4.
if you just want to play online, keyboard is fine.

>they're not tourney permissible
lmao what

What shithole backwater tourneys do you play in?

The ones that recognize impossible inputs being made possible on a bullshit controller

Hit Box doesn't make any impossible inputs though. It's also never been banned at any major tournament ever, and it's been around since 2010.

So I say once again, what shithole backwater tourneys do you play in?

he probably thinks smash is a fighting game, there were issues with the smashbox doing things that arent allowed

>what do I look for when buying a good keyboard that doesnt lock up?
plz respond

Smash is a whole other can of worms. The Smash Box is literally banned because it's not a gamecube controller. That is actually the stated legality reason listed by the MIOM ruleset. Anything that is not a gamecube controller is banned. Furthermore, while the controller legality situation is still up in the air, it's really telling that the MIOM ruleset also explicitly says that they basically won't allow any 3rd party controllers unless they are prohibitively objectively worse than a gamecube controller and people would only use it if they had no other choice. The Smash community is fucked up, what else is new.

A derp is you!

What the fuck are you even talking about? Nothing in that video is an impossible input and says absolutely nothing about tournament legality. Are you mentally challenged perhaps?

Yeah, Melee is the way they are because it's a small core group of players who have nothing to gain and everything to lose from letting people use a new input platform so of course they ban that shit. They don't want the extra competition

Just look for ones that have proper rollover and anything that's anti-ghosting. Mechanical keyboards will tend to work nowadays but what switches you would prefer is up in the air, it's a question for Sup Forums at this point

Yeah thats all moonspeak to me, I see them range from 60 to 200 and of course theyre all aimed at """"gamers""""

Ghosting happens when you try to press too many keys at once, it stops registering inputs (which would be a big problem for fighting games since you'd already have to hold two buttons just to do down and back). When you look at keyboards you'll see them advertised with stuff like 16-key anti-ghosting, 24-key, etc or full key rollover. The number is how many keys the keyboard is able to register at a time. I don't know how many fighting games you play where you have to hold 16 different buttons at the same time but you should be okay with a number around there. As for switches and the like, they're all different based on their color, like I said you should go look on Sup Forums since they probably have a keyboard thread that goes into more depth

Fighting games work great as long as you map "up" to the spacebar and think of it as the jump button.

keyboards for fighting games are really nice, some interpreters agree with keyboards more, and some less
kof is generally really really good for keyboards

never seen a tourney where keyboards are disallowed, it's just rare to see someone using one in the first place

Any modern game is just fine on keyboard. The only issues you'll run into are older games with much stricter input interpreters that demand perfectly clean motions with no skipped inputs. It's really easy to skip inputs on keyboard, especially if you're newer to using one, so that can give you some troubles. Anything made after like 1996 though shouldn't be too bad, with games made after 2008 being pretty nice on keyboard.

A good mechanical keyboard will cost about as much as a Hitbox and is only viable on a handful of games with decent inputs like Skullgirls. It's up to you lad.

a decent keyboard will cost me 200+?

You could find one on sale for closer to $100 if you look around, but you should know what you want first

I'm pretty sure my Steelseries mechanical keyboard was well over $100 when I got it and it isn't really that high end.

Well that sucks, maybe I'll just get a hitbox then

Just check the Sup Forums guide. It's been like seven years since they really got popular, the prices might be lower now.

a fair amount of people use keyboard, i think the buttons are too small and too close together though. you could also just use a pad.

If you can afford a hitbox I'd recommend it. Having the arcade buttons feels better than using just a keyboard imo. Also if you ever want to play on a console a hitbox will be significantly easier to get working.

Are those fucked up hands covered in cheetos dust?

Corsair are a good way to go, the keyboards are durable and well built and the price wont run into the hundreds.

I've tried other brands and find the more expensive stuff tends to break pretty quickly.
