Is there any MMO that doesn't have boring gameplay and that doesn't feel completely pointless in wasting hours of each day on? In other words, does a "fun" MMO exist?

Tell me your ideal mmo and we can start from there

PSOBB probably

an MMO without mandatory grind. Optional grid for cosmetics/titles/etc is ok

>MMO
>doesn't want to waste hours each day

Minecraft

neopets

I liked Guild Wars because of the community, and you could get max level equipment very quickly. I think that equipment in MMO's should mostly be aesthetic.

secret world but play the actual version, not legends

i'm actually going to be a madman and try this out, it's been so long, don't remember my old account, time to start fresh.

i found eso to be fun.

there's a general for it on /trash/ that usually remains mostly porn free if you want other people to play with

DCUO if you think of it as a beat em up mmo.

Are you implying I haven't played the hell out of Minecraft for years since it came out? I need something NEW!!!!!

Vindictus is fun until you hit like level 60 and get forced to start doing the godawful raidboss fights

the fuck is that even supposed to mean

DFO
DDO
BDO
Actually nevermind those all have a grind, but the gameplay is better than most.

what are you confused about? Mandatory grind or the optional grind?

bdo is complete garbage
i repeat
bdo is complete garbage

stay away

Really wish Dragons Dogma Online and Kingdom Under Fire 2 came to the west, I played a bit of both but I just could not into the language barrier, KoF2 is a very unique game that your "equipment" is an army at your disposal to do different attacks, like ranged army for a ranged DPS, or if youre tanking you would set up an army that uses heavier units and healers, all this is happening while you are on the ground giving orders and fighting alongside the armies, DDO is like a coop game and not an MMO, this is how I want ALL MMOs to be. Hotkeys combat is fucking lame.

A mmo that doesn't reward grind or work put into it is as retarded as waiting tables for 50 years and never progressing anywhere in life. Is that fun? It sure as fuck isn't to me.

It doesn't matter if you have the time or not. If you think a mmorpg is fun, then it doesn't matter how long it takes reaching max level. You can take 2 years to reach level 60 as long as the journey was fun. But because of nu-males like you we have games like Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online (Thanks for ruining it again right after Zenimax fixed it) that put every motherfucker on a pedestal who demand a participation trophy for simply existing in the same space as you do. You're not crying to the government either how you are only making $5/h while someone who spent 30 years in education is making $40/h, or do you? You fucking commie pig.

Be careful what you wish for user.

Nope. Mmos mmorpgs are kinda dead.
At this point im hoping to find a cool endless dungeon with infinite levels and never come back (no roguelike, more like rpg).

I just tried secret world legend and i couldnt even run it with so many errors at launch.

Everybody knows shit, FUCK.

That sound like you want a dress up game, not an MMO.

try pso2, the combat system is fun, we can play together

Not OP but what ship and block?

ship 2

Is it bad that I want a game that has a faster version of FFXIV 1.0's combat? I'm just tired of the same hotbar-combat found in every single MMO out there, and even a superficial difference like having to select your attack through a menu seems like it'd at least differentiate itself from everything else to the point that it might be interesting to play.

It probably plays like shit which is why they changed it, but I'd much rather play something different than play something that's like everything else with different graphics.

can still play FFXI

Play Black Desert then, it has beat 'em controls with moves that can't efficiently be put on a hotkey bar. It also has infinite levels. Be prepared to grind 2 months 8 hours a day for a single level up past lvl 60.

I had original sw but now I have legends in my steam library can you still play the original and what does legends change?

XIV

True, but part of the reason why one plays an MMO is to play with others. From what I can gather about it nowadays, it's basically a single-player game with light multiplayer elements due to how almost nobody plays it anymore (which made SE put in stuff like NPC party members). I'm likely going to play it after I finish X as part of a "play every Final Fantasy" goal, but if I'm going to play an MMO, I'd like to play something that has a decent population.

Honestly, I'm kicking myself for not getting into it earlier. As much of a grind it seemed, it looked fun.

I'll try it out, as it was on my radar when it was first coming out, but I lost interest after I heard they dumbed down a few things from the beta. I'm also not really into PvP - which BDO seems to focus on compared to PvE.

puzzle pirates

BDO is fucking awful.

I just started this, came from playing Tera. Immediately I don't really like that all the cosmetic stuff can't be sold on the marketplace for in-game gold so you have to spend real money but whatever, I'll overlook that for now. 60 is my goal because its the requirement for the armor set I want.

It's niche, as in it's good at what it does, it just doesn't do dungeon/raid content that's become so commonplace in mmos.

EVERYONE KNOW SHIT'S FUCKED!

FFXIV might be what your looking for.

I wish Wildstar hadn't died. That was my favorite MMORPG to date.
It had so much going for it, so much polish and good intent.
I don't know why it flopped so hard, but I blame NCsoft. They seem to drag down every single game they touch.

They needed to make casual players a focus for the earlygame.

It died because it had a subscription fee, I think that left a sour taste with people once it went f2p

you could be working on your business right now instead of playing games

You could be working on your business right now instead of posting on Sup Forums.

Biggest complaint of any mmo with one desu

What class are you playing?

Well if they axed it, how would you support the devs user? :^)

pso2

Cash shop works.

No OP. The truth is MMOs are inherently dog shit. The only thing that makes them fun is that you're playing them with friends and other people online. Once your friends or guild stops logging in, you realize it's a chores/job simulator with no real pay off, since the pay off usually ends up being able to do the next tier of chores/work after getting a new set of equipment. The only reason MMOs are still around in an age when the online gimmick is the norm now is because there's always a new crop of 12 year olds with mom's credit card coming in that don't know any better and fall for the MMO meme, along with the people that been playing for years haven't been redpilled yet, and finally the group of dregs that actually enjoy MMO "gameplay" or just plain don't know what to do with themselves or they feel too invested and don't want their investment to be a waste so they keep playing.

You're gonna get replies in this thread that say "X is actually a good MMO because _______" or whatever but it's gonna be the same bullshit.

I'll just keep playing Minecraft

Interacting with people is the only point to an mmo, which is why all the modern ones are trash.

If you're interested in seeing the other side, I run a clan in NexusTK - we'd happily show you around.

Fuck, me too.
Really hit the nail on the head.

Yeah MMOs are all about the community, look at all the social features inserted into big/popular games that turn the hobby into a lifestyle. Back then, I feel like MMOs served a technical function as well, some were about as good as your average chat client, the difference was you played a game while you talked.

DDO?

D&D Online I'm pretty sure, not exactly the most popular one but it's there.

Dragons Dogma Online, i dont think theres an official english release yet though.

nope, japan actually has a lot of great-looking mmos we dont, i think monster hunter online is one most people want in NA

Thanks for reminding me.

Monster Hunter Online

Pretty sure they delete accounts that get too old.

Anyone tried Kritika Online?

Isnt it oldschool, or were there revivals? I heard it tossed around on /ammg/

You might need a new hobby

I think the one on steam is a newer release? Could be wrong though, never heard of it until it got onto steam.

it's like a 3d dfo. game is pretty ruthless if you set the difficulty up a bit, tho. I only got to like lvl 30 so far so idk wtf end game is like.

I played the Jap version a year or two ago.
Hardcore grinding the same missions repeatedly to unlock the next one to grind even more mindless mobs. Looked real good and felt fun to play though, maybe it's improved.

XIV

the gameplay is boring for a good while though, but it does get much better as you progress (this is more or less noticeable based on which class you level)

Eve is a Sandbox.

Also ESO pvp if you're into that.

How limited is f2p eve?

It seemed like one of those games with a shit ton of private servers, it's why Ragnarok sometimes suffered as a community.

Just avoid fantasy rpgs and you are good to go.
