Thinking of buying the switch but
>3 hours battery time
Is it really that bad? I don't trust reviewers.
I'm mostly getting it for those cool looking indie games and bomberman

It can run for more than 4-5 hours if you turn the screen brightness to the minimum and don't play any games on it

Sounds fun

if you buy this for portability you're retarded

Sometimes, it's even worse than 3 hours.
Of course, you're playing games with Wii U-style power on a battery, what do you expect?

It's not that big a deal. You'll rarely be playing for 3 hours at a time in portable without access to a power outlet. If it is really that concerning you can buy a power bank. You can use that to charge your phone as well.

Wait for the revision. Nintendo always does better the second time around.

If you're playing indie games and bomberman then the battery is the least of your worries, it's only stuff like Breath of the Wild or online play that will drain it

I take it to treatment with me and play it between groups. The battery life hasn't been an issue for me thus far.

Get yourself a nice battery pack with 3.0 quick charge for under $50

More serious answer: It can go for 5 to 6 hours if you're not playing demanding games, like binding of isaac or other indie games. With Zelda at default brightness, which is 75%, it lasted 3 hours and 2 min in one test. Max brightness and wifi on was 2 1/2. 50% brightness was 3 1/2 hours.

It's only 3 hours on games that make the hardware run at 100% like Zelda or Splatoon. Indie games are like 6 hours.

Realistically, where the fuck are you going without a power outlet for more than 3 hours user?

mostly in bed, but my side of the bed doesn't have an outlet nearby. The wife takes up the tv with the ps4. Even when I go on the road on five hour flights and stuff.

then

If you turn the brightness down by 50% it can increase the battery life up to an hour and a half, using BOTW as a test

This might be a dumb question but if you had one of those little portable batteries would it give the switch an extra hour or two? Would it even work?

The Switch's battery life is comparable to most other portables. It's a pretty demanding device and I've had it last almost 4h with Zelda. It lasts over 5h with other less demanding games.

You can also use an external battery and extend the battery life a lot.

Just bring your charger and look for outlets if thay isn't good enough.

I have never run out of battery in less than 3 hours. It is 3,5-4 usually, sometimes more.

I played Sonic mania with lowest brightness and wifi on for about 2 hours the other night. It took roughly 30% of the battery, so I would imagine you can go for 6-7 if you don't play games that are too intensive with lowest brightness.

There are portable batteries that can fully charge the Switch 7 times before running out of juice, no joke.

Neat. Thanks buddy.

...why does that guy wear cookie monster gloves

His gimmick is presenting himself as a puppet in all his videos, in this video you only see his hands.

I was able to charge the Switch fully 2 times with my 20000mAh pack. Definitely had more left in the portable battery afterwards.

>have money to buy a Switch
>but I could spend all that money on a nice phone like a Moto Z2 Play, and I'd have to spend on games too

Maybe when it gets hacked like the 3DS/Wii U

3-4 hours is pretty good for how powerful it is. Depends how you're going to use it really.

Autism

Huh. Well ok

>3 Hours Battery Time.

Lol, if you are lucky, maybe. I get a little over 2 hours from playing BOTW on it, with brightness down and all. Sonic Mania last me a little over three, but anything more demanding than that, like BOTW, Splatoon, or Arms will end up draining the entire battery, even from a full charge, at low brightness, by the middle of 2 hours. Take it from me, just wait for the inevitable revision to the Switch will we see in a few months.

Like, if they can fix their online shit, make more high quality JoyCons for cheaper (left JoyCon specifically), make a more durable and less dangerous dock, and upgrade the abysmal battery life, then the Switch would be the best console of all time, no questions asked. As it stand now though, DO NOT GET IT, if you only want it for portability; this things takes up way more space than my 3DS, even with Joycons removed, yet still has not even half of the battery life. If you are using a Switch solely for docked mode, you will be a happy camper though, and it may very well become your favorite home console (just not handheld).

Of course, I think the main thing to look out for will be the battery life that Mario Odyssey handles. If they optimize it well, it shows that maybe future games will be less battery hungry, but if they don't... well, I would wait for the revision, all the same.

mario odyssey better run good given how the textures manage to look fucking worse than mario galaxy's

In addition to all these posts about brightness and demanding games and such, you always can activate flight mode, which saves again about 30-60 minutes battery life.
Only downsides is... well, it's flight mode. but it's pretty convenient on the bus or when waiting somewhere without internet
