What was the general consensus on this game Sup Forums?
Nier:Automata
You should play it and also needlessly complain about 9S
This little faggot is making me SO mad.
Hey I'm 9S I'm forever butthurt that my gf is dead except she wasn't really my gf and she had to put me down whenever I go mental.
And she kind of died because of me because she had to sent me away to fight alone because I can't fight for shit. And then I got lost or something so I couldn't remove the virus from her even though that's my job since I'm a cyberwarfare unit.
So I take out all of my frustrations on A2 who is actually trying to help me despite having her own shit to deal with. But I went mental again and I killed her.
Oh and I also got Devola and Popola killed because I couldn't hack a GOD DAMN DOOR even though it's my job but they had to do it themselves and it killed them.
I'm so cute in my little boyshorts though. And my little kitty cat collar.
Taro WTF.
6/10, very mediocre, almost no reason to replay it due to how shallow the combat is.
Unironically my favorite GOTY of the year of the decade.
>be me
>considere myself good a most video games
>be a fan of platinum games
>jerk off the hack and slash games
>get this game
>menu kicks in
>musicisgood.jpg
>start
>spend 3 minutes trying to come up with a robot name
>'3' it is
>select hard difficulty
>intro is cool
>spend a while in the tutorial area
>amazed by the changes in playstyle
>boss fight shows up
>knocks me out in one hit
>....
>you start all over again
>gave it a couple of extra tries
>mfw its been 2 weeks since that day
>mfw there are no checkpoints in the entire tutorial area
>mfw I can't get past the tutorial
>mfw I realize I'm a journalist
it's a good videogame
Play on normal difficulty. Hard is just an enemy damage increase and does not make it more fun, in fact it makes it too frustrating.
They made the intro section weird WRT difficulty.
Overall the game has balance problems (which were not intentional I'm pretty sure, they just fucked it up).
But the intro almost feels like trolling.
The save system varies throughout the game, but having to restart the intro over and over again (starting with 2B's little "cycle" monologue" each time) was probably intentional.
I loved it! I hope more people pick up the game and beat it in the future.
Died on the goliath fight in route c and lost 2 hours of progress because I didn't save. Beyond fucking pissed but I still love it
7/10. There were aspects that I loved, but it was too repetitive, not enough enemy variation, and essentially having to play through the game twice was lame.
I have to applaud it for taking a lot of risks though. Not to mention stellar music, voice acting, and visuals. I'm not gaga for the game, but I know there are people out there who will be because it does quite a bit right.
it's modern classic, amazing experience and arguably goty. perfect cure for all of those soulless vida that's being released nowadays
amount of shitposting only makes it better, it's common knowledge that vee shits exclusively in good, popular titles
I'm legit a bit depressed that there won't be a real sequel. Taro will just make another weird ass game connected to it in a super convoluted manner. Maybe you'll find two katanas stuck in the ground with blindfolds hanging on them at some point and you'll learn something super depressing happened. Taro just has to be a dick like that.
I made it as far as the dual giant gears stuff sandwiches me, is it too much left out of the tutorial to a savepoint?
I feel like a bitch tunning the difficulty down but if that's what it takes to enjoy a good game, I think I'll be a lil' bitch ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
An horrible piece of shit and the worst game I played this year.
Completely boring gameplay
Uninteresting characters
Plot ruined by shit pacing
Barren world and fucking shit graphics
Maybe their interaction with the machine network will make them reenact their version of Romeo and Juliet.
I really don't care about the general consensus because it's easily one of the best games of the year. Play it if you haven't.
I enjoyed the game but i have to agree that the world was barren. This game could have been vastly improved by completely eliminating the open world aspect.
DUDE TOOBIE'S BUTT LOL
overhyped piece oftrash
If we could check the alternate universe where 2b wasn't a girl with a fat ass we'd see that there are 0 people currently talking about it
Yeah you're at the end.
And yeah you better accept being a little bitch for this one.
It really sucks that there isn't an intermediate difficulty level between normal and hard because I'm not good enough for hard but normal is a bit too easy once you become overleveled and you have good chips.
Nice story.
Cool and unique usage of the game medium.
Garbage battle mechanics, shameful display by Platinum.
It's called marketing you dumb fuck.
Toobie's butt was marketing. And they managed to do it on the cheap.
Of course you have to market your game for people to be talking about it. That doesn't mean it's a bad game without the marketing.
And I really enjoy games with cute girls in it. It makes the game better. We've got a serious infestation of tumblr-tier posters in these thread. Literally where the fuck are you coming from and what are you doing on 4chins?
>market games with butt
>actual game doesn't deliver
Perfect
It's nice to witness possibly the most autistic post on Sup Forums in quite a while.
>actual game doesn't deliver
It does though. It's awesome. I've played a lot of vidyas and they're all starting to look the same, but this one stands out for once. For many reasons.
I'm so glad I've played it.
I only heard about it because of waifufags posting Toobie and people talking about her seemingly genuinely getting emotional kek.
Otherwise I probably wouldn't have paid attention to a Japs game with anime tropes. Literally all of them I've tried to play were too autismal for me except for Automata.
You're a retarded normalfag. Automata really doesn't do anything special and I'm not even surprised you actually think it does because this is your literal first JRPG.
oh so that's the kind of scum who enjoy this shit. It checks out
>Automata really doesn't do anything special
No way in hell you could convince me of that kek.
Name one game that compares to it besides the first Nier.
I'm gonna try to play this one too at some point.
>this is your literal first JRPG
I wouldn't call it a JRPG though.
>when Automata isn't weebish enough for you
I hope you're just baiting.
2B is so pretty it hurts. I just had to get it out. I love her and I love her beautiful, thoughtful, sentimental game even though 9S is a little faggot. Automata haters are literal brainlets.
The game looked kinda bad to me. I bought the collector's edition but flipped it for $500.
I enjoyed some parts of it but it's not the mind bending masterpiece that its fans claim it is. Combat is just okay, and there's only two or four beats that made me actually feel anything.
Really did like the music though, and 2B is damn hot.
9s can't fight for shit....
nigger, you are out of your damned mind.
I liked the DMC games and I liked the Bayonetta games so I liked this one.
2B isnt for lewding! She is a faithful wife!
Geometry war dimension doesn't count.
The game has an above average narrative and a fuckton of secrets and easter eggs but I was still disappointed because when I heard "yoko taro x platinum games" I thought "drakengard x wonderful101/mgr" which meant to me "god tier atmosphere and sound design with every ending being more despair than the last x god tier creative character action gameplay thats satisfying, varied and fun" but got "shitty nier x shitty bayonetta" which means to me "niers story but with worse music and characters aside from the machines x mash square to win and dodge when someones eyes turn red"
>2B isnt for lewding!
I agree but this isn't lewd for her.
She lets her butt show sometimes because she literally doesn't give a shit. Androids don't care. They dress stylishly because they want to do as humans do but there is no real lewdness to them.
nobody even talks about hacking
if you still don't understand why he's considered a high end yorha unit, equip spear of the usurper and hold attack button
overhyped weebshit
I ain't collecting trash to upgrade more than 3 weapons niggah.
you sound like you have a brain damage so whatever
The tutorial is by far the hardest part of the entire game if you're playing hard. Just change it down to normal and crank it back up afterwords. It's more frustrating than anything if you don't.
it doesn't live up to the hype. the game has a lot of problems that the fanboys willfully ignore because of their infatuation with 2B's butt.
more than half the gameplay (flying, hacking, enemies with projectiles, the end credits, etc) is shmups bullshit. the "open world" is empty and lifeless, and takes away from the story (which needs all the help it can get). the characters are boring and bland most of the time, and wildly inconsistent the little time they are saying and doing things. the main tension in route C is basically a giant misunderstanding that could be avoided via 30 seconds of conversation, making the finale of the story a violent, overly dramatic episode of seinfeld. the graphics are ok, unless you play on PC, then the buggy port crashes repeatedly and makes you reload.
the only thing that is definitively good about Nier:Automata is the music, and if i had known that before i wouldn't have bought it.
People only cared because of the ass, prove me wrong
Here, thats the reason you are wrong.
You just proved me right, he ordered for the ass to be sculpted perfectly because he knew no one would care otherwise
Check and mate
I don't think I've ever let myself be completely honest about this game, except for to myself.
The game has some really flashy features, but is so smooth to play and easy to constantly dodge that it actually lacks impact. It suffers from being an action combat game that is also an RPG, the amount of traveling between interesting combat moments makes parts of the game dull, and each combat segment is not that well designed that you will enjoy every one or feel that you are dealing with something new in a way that isn't cheap (such as the desert full of flying units you just have to shoot at for a bit). It's a Yoko Taro game, so of course it's dotted with these really serene magical moments that are unmatched anywhere in video games, the true purpose of Taro's career is to deliver this one beautiful open-hearted feeling that contains so much real emotion while being severed from so much you thought was real. I struggle to describe it, but it invokes an out-of-body experience and speaks to the heart, and is the core of his idea that all that matters is this kernel of life-experience that all beings have, and cannot be destroyed no matter if life ceases to exist, or if all life only destroys itself. This moment doesn't only occur in the story, but in the music and visuals as well, and will strike you at any moment as the game's main underlying theme. Taro displays transhumanism literally and displays a completely human world that somehow exists after humanty's utter brutal extinction. It makes me trail off and forget that a lot of this game is dull, it's hard not to write an essay about it because I'm the type of person who will pay $60 and spend 30 hours on a game that isn't always good just to occasionally get this sensation. It's good I guess. I mainly play it to chase that high of when it does itself right. Doesn't mean it's not a Nier game.
woah there nigger, you really expect me to read all that shit?
I don't think this explains the level of continued obsession I see for this game.
Not at this point, no. It's hard to handle concise writing on this board sometimes while fully explaining myself.
Other user here.
I shamelessly say I literally did this.
The final fight in the Tutorial is pure madness when playing in Hard and I'm way too noob for that as of now.
Maybe in my 3rd run I'll do Hard Tutorial and Very Hard every else, idk.
GOTY
Explain to me why this poster isn't correct.
This is your typical 2Butt-obsessed waifufag. Watch how he tries to justify his perversions by pretending that it is art. He probably managed to convince himself of all this hogwash.
>mfw the Transhumanism part of his Nier series inspired a philosophy professor in my former Uni for a class about it.
Feels good having worked in a Uni that doesn't give a shit about anyone and does classes of whatever it wants.
Well of course, getting paid hundreds of thousands to give interested students credits to participate in your real-life forum threads is living the dream. We should all be so lucky.
What I omitted is that almost nobody knew about fucking Nier before the class.
Shit was fun as fuck.
Anyway I was just an IT in the Uni, lmao.
Wait the class was about Nier? I thought you meant it was about transhumanism, Jesus Christ the madman. What'd he have to say?
>Having Uni classes about Nier
>Giving Uni classes about Nier
>Getting paid for giving Uni classes about Nier
Ok then.
Nier+Transhumanism
He just fucking gushed for an hour about how well Taro implemented details in the Androids that made them quite Human.
Also a lot of pics of Emil and the robots, and how they started to copy human behaviours, becoming human-like in the process like with Adam and Eve.
Shit was funny as fuck.
Like a quarter of the students were embarrased.
Another quarter wanted to see lewds of Toobie.
And the another half literally wanted to play the games.
If he wanted to do marketing he literally managed to do it.
It wasn't me, lmao. I just was an IT at that Uni, but I know the madman who did the class
By the way, philosophy has quite a big freedom in their classes.
I'd have a much harder time than you explaining how I feel about this game desu.
Yeah a lot of it was dull for me too. I'm not a big fan of that kind of combat even though it was probably well-done I guess. Apart from the healing mechanic and how you should just keep on mashing the dodge buttons.
I was still hooked though. I *had* to keep on playing to see where they were going with all of this. I missed a lot of sleep over it. I was trying to understand the plot in a rational way, considering its sci-fi setting, and it was interesting and you could infer some of the plot points before the reveal (which is cool) but it would be difficult given all the confusion there is. Also the game knows how to engage your emotions at the same time. It does both really well and that's why I really enjoyed it at first.
I probably didn't appreciate the philosophical themes as much as some people. I was too focused on trying to figure out wtf was going on in the story. I sort of see what they were going for but I overlooked a lot of it.
I did spend most of the time pondering though I realize. Yeah they want you to think about a lot of stuff.
Also Popolla and Devolla are super cute I should play their game.
>play for like two hours of route C
>figure it's the last section and I'm good so I'll crank it up to hard
>grunt ralpha wiggum bot kills me in two hits
>lose over an hour of progress
>ralpha wiggum bot
kek I never thought about it
This, I honestly havent felt this sleepy playing a vidya in a long time.
General consensus is that ts 100/10 masterpiece though so we're the odd man out
Who cares? Why do you need a bunch of neckbeards to validate your opinion on video games? If you like something you like it,if you don't you don't.
I honestly assume that you guys are shitposting. Did you really play this game and it didn't do anything for you?
I'm not as crazy about it as some people. It has flaws and I didn't like the combat so much. So I finished it pretty quick (and then messed a bit in the chapter select). But I loved the experience anyway. Because shit there isn't all that much novelty out there.
I guess I could see how this isn't enough to justify putting however many hours playing something when you could just watch a movie or read a book. But it's special to have something like this in vidya form. The experience is different.
What was your favorite side quest?
I do respect the opinion of neckbeards greatly when it comes to their area of expertise like vidyas.
If the smug anime girls on the Internet tell me something is trash then I'll have a hard time taking it seriously.
>get to last stage
>figure I must be retarded because he's not taking damage
>look it up and oh lol you need to play as 9s to beat him
What a waste of time that was. Taro isn't very good at designing the game parts of his games. Or executing the story for that matter.
>General consensus is that ts 100/10 masterpiece though
There are very, very few people who claim that.
The game is flawed. And yet i feel the experience as a whole is at least more interesting than most stuff released now a days,
Me neither.
I'm ashamed of myself...
I didn't do all of them but I hated them all. They all sent you someplace to kill things and pick up crap. It sucked. And most of them had some clever observations or dialog at the end. I loved them.
This one though: The Wandering Couple.
I mean holy shit. I think it's "horror" what it makes you experience. Bitches be crazy senpai.
>dat sidequest
Jesus Christ so fucking true.
That bitch's gonna be a bitch her whole existence.
well you might as well not bother with that entire quest chain until you play as 9S since he can oneshot all of Father Servo's forms anyway
9S was the most fun to play as with his charge attacks, and his hacking was fun
Also cutest vidya couple in a long as time. It was so wonderful seeing all the desperate waifufags cramble to find complaints about 9S because he's canonically fucking 2B
This is 100% on point.
9S was a fucking faggot and easily the worst part of the game despite taking the most spotlight.
>find complaints about 9S because he's canonically fucking 2B
REEEEEEEEE
NO
NO
>IMPLYING
2B is the one fucking him.
Taro said androids have interchangeable genitals. 2B has a girl robopenis and she fucks 9S right in his cute little robobutt.
>>look it up and oh lol you need to play as 9s to beat him
What? Your stupid? Just because you can cheese any machine with 9s, it doesnt mean you need to do it. Literally git gud.
Not into dickgirls but I'm just gland ending e is canon. We need more happy endings in games
But as long as we agree they love each other very much and one is at least fucking the other
>chip away at a machine for half an hour even though you can kill in a second playthrough or you're stupid
Well, i knew about the whole 2E spoiler, but had no context what so ever. "What does it mean? Does it mean that there is more than one 2B?"
Then i did Amnesia and it hit me like a fucking truck. Cant say it was a spoiled experience, because the delivery in the quest was very good, and i still didnt know where the story was going.
>But as long as we agree they love each other very much and one is at least fucking the other
Fine.
I think it is safe to assume that 9S being 2B' bottom is also canon. There are a lot of hints throughout the game.
>ending e
It reminds me of something I read about an earlier draft of a stageplay. I think it was after ending E. It went something like: 2B woke up next to 9S but he never did. 2B remained by his side and cried until her batteries ran out. Taro is a monster.
The story is pretty average despite being told in an absolutely meta way for the medium.
Gameplay was probably Platinum 's weakest entry to date. There was seriously TWO combo and ONE attack mixup for every weapon combination, and those "combos" are only changed up between being equipped as a heavy attack or a light attack.
The RPG aspect was a failure in almost every way. Leveling up trivialize every aspect of the game, and the chip system (which I was originally excited about upon starting the game) ended up being extremely lackluster and offered little actual variety beyond different ways to heal your character.
Bosses were all forgettable as fuck outside of one optional one.
But man, it probably had one of the better ending of most games despite everything I just mentioned.
Pic unrelated.
>Amnesia
Emil drove by right during the reveal for me.
I'll hate him forever.
>He doesnt want amazing deals
That bad the bad concert ending script.
Taro actually changed the script, the absolute madman did it.
I think taro leaked the fake bad stage play and then when it went live it was the good end. Literal madlad
>changed the script
I dont think so. I think he did it on purpose.
Memory is a little short, but back in the days of release, on /dng/, there were some people pointing a bunch of very off things, such as the staff claiming 9S VA wouldnt be able to be present anyway for script 5 even though he was a main character in the 4 previous scripts reading that would happen in the same night, or a very uncharacteristic behavior by 153, who is very motherly and affectionate to 9S in the side materials, but cold in the fake ending 5.
So the sharper fans could see through his bullshit, but i am certain it caused a lot of despair to many people who only heard about it second hand.
What's the Nier-related project?
Why haven't you autists found out yet?
The new stageplay?
ATLANTIS INCIDENT!
He is gonna build the real YOKO TARO'S WILD RIDE in some amusement park in japan.
He's talking about the new nier related project that Squenix is hiring people for
Personally, I want to see a Drakengard game made by platinum and see how they do it without being caged by the RPG nature of the Nier franchise
Who would ride such a thing?
Who wouldnt?
>riding something that'll rip your heart out
It sounded like it would be a game though. They talked about item descriptions and other stuff.
kek
Maybe items are hidden in the park.
I would legit be scared of that. You can't get off the ride and he knows it.
