Never played this before. Does it hold up? I like other JRPGs from that era
Never played this before. Does it hold up? I like other JRPGs from that era
it's the best PS2 JRPG ever
It's my favorite RPG of all time.
However, the start is pretty slow and it takes a while to get going, and you pretty much need a guide or walk through to get past certain parts. There's also a lot of permanently missable things in the game, since the game has a crafting system where you get the recipes from taking photos, and certain photos are of one time only bosses or areas.
its one of the best games ever made
I've recently started playing it from a recommendation. It's really fun, especially if you like to craft items. Feels like a game from a better era, honestly.
Taking photos and making stuff from it is one best ideas I have ever seen in games. Why is there not more of this?
It hits my crafting autism because it let's me make super overpowered guns super quickly as long as I grind.
Creativity died in gen 6
only ever played the first one literally the only games i would want in a hd collection
to add on to this, the breaking of almost any item and using it to upgrade the element needed for a weapon to get to the next stage is amazing. Fuck I need to replay this game now.
It's good. I went back after loving it years ago and was less impressed than before but it's still good.
That's a very weird way to spell Persona 4.
Absolutely.
The first one is also good but it's not necessarily to play the games in order.
It's time for Level-5 to make the damn sequel.
fucking normie pleb
Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 are FUCKING AWESOME. Take them slow, and ENJOY
fuck golf
my nam isnt tiger woods nigga
>want to have fun with the monster changing system
>it's grindy af
>even then the transformations are trash
Fucking dropped
Man I love dark cloud 2 how the fuck did they never make an hd re release or even dark cloud 3?
ONLY THE STRONG ONES
CAN STAND THE TEST OF TIME
maybe it does. maybe it doesn't.
maybe go fuck yourself.
same thing that happens to a lot of great games from that era, IP fuckery. Sony technically co-owns it so they can't make one without their approval. They did port it to PS4 though
Give Lee some more Stars Uncle Joey
It's a great game. It's tragic that Sony won't ask Level 5 for DC3. Instead, Sony prefers to fund garbage like Knack 2 and Horizon.
I wasn't a fan of it. Bought/played it in 2003 and it just seemed like a worse Legend of Mana. I ended up using the case as a drink coaster for many years.
>Dark Cloud 2 combat

I found it to be a repetitive slog with pointless fluff content everywhere... Like a lot of Level-5 games, unfortunately.
yes
i one of the best games ever made along with the first one
At least Dark Cloud is at the top of the pile.
Very good if you can stand a bit of grind. However the combat is nothing to write home about.
One of the comfiest games ever made.
This and the golf were the parts I disliked I liked the rest
Level both of characters.
Dragon Quest VIII exists, so I disagree.
DQVIII is proof that L-5 has it in them to make great games, but they always seem to shoot themselves in the foot somehow. There's some "thing" missing from most of their games. They need strong hands guiding projects.
That "thing" is the ability to add meaningful side content that isn't just completionist fodder. Unfortunately, they're like the kings of completionist fodder.
What parts exactly? i've finish the game with relative ease, just focusing on getting the next weapon upgrade whenever i got the requirements. It got to the point where i had to do a shitton of grinding just to get the correct stats, so i said fuck it and just went to the final boss.
The most frustrating part was honestly recreating the garden in the final stage, fucking had to get it down perfectly or it didn't work.
Dark Cloud 2 is great you'll love it OP. Dark Cloud 1 had a more interesting darker story and atmosphere with an actual end game though. It may have been harder too. Otherwise Dark Cloud 2 is an improvement in every other aspect.
True, but I was referring to the overall package. Their games are almost always great from a technical/visual perspective, but the gameplay and stories just end up being so weak. Rogue Galaxy and Ni No Kuni come to mind. RG was just your standard button masher ARPG, and NNK's combat felt so archaic it was like playing a late ps1/early ps2 title with a ps3 coat of paint slapped over it. Both titles had the potential to be great, but were ultimately forgettable even while playing them.
For everyone asking for Dark Cloud 3: this is why familiars do not exist in NNK2. Take a look at the game. They've added weapon crafting, kingdom building, procedural dungeons... sound familiar?
>kingdom building
Details?
You do NPC chores and farm for materials to build houses and other landmarks in miniature towns and shit. It's pretty tedious at times.
bioshock 2 I think
It's improve in NNK2. I rropmIse
>I rropmIse
I rromplse. You rromplse. He she we rromplse. Rromplseology, the study of rromplse.

My autism means I can't play this game without the guide because there's literally hundreds of things you can permanently miss that means you won't be able to craft everything at the end and then I get upset and start crying
>playing fucking golf to get monica's costume
It holds up beautifully, I'd say.
Fuck Spheda though.
>You can't touch the thing
>Here use this golf club
>Literally own a robot that could just pick up the thing and throw it
>mfw
The leveling system is fucked but that fucking MUSIIIIIIIC

PLAY IT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT! Though I didn't the max's memories about his mom, I still like the story anyway.
Don't watch this or you will try and emulate and play it again.

>no option to disable the terrible voice acting
I could never finish the game every time I do a playthrough cause Monica always gets under leveled in one of her solo floors
BLING BLONG
Just do yourself a favor and use cheat engine to get all the coins for the cat suit in the beginning. That shit's a grind fest.
I want to fuck Monica so much.
Replayed it not too long ago. Still holds up. Still fun as fuck.

I think most of the bosses, really, but the only I remember for a fact is the butterfly boss.
I believe that most of the boss fights are photo ops, but in particular the butterfly one is painful because it had something to do with an important recipe if I recall. It doesn't help that you can easily miss it since you think that photo dude's photo quests are not really important at the beginning.
If you're a 100% kind of guy you'll want to read a photo guide walkthrough before you start.
as long as you talk to Donny before entering any special floor you'll be able to fill your scoop list without missing anything.
The biggest catch is that you have no idea Donny gives scoops unless you talk to him in the sewer, which no one thinks to do when you're first given your camera. so a lot of people miss the first one with the elephant
How many SCOOPS does this DONNY give?
god i tried to get all the photos, but then i missed a tree in the last stage. Not in a mood to replay everythign just for that.
