Is all the hate behind him really necessary? Outside of his titular appearance, has he ever really been a problematic character?
Is all the hate behind him really necessary? Outside of his titular appearance...
no he's just a shit character.
the only good thing I can say about him is that he was interesting plot device in SA2
he's emblematic of everything that went wrong with the series throughout the 2000's and late 90's
Edgy design
guns
drama
playing in a manner that isn't fast runnin and jumpin
last second development changes
easy cut-and-paste slotting in of new characters
renderware
overwrought cliches (comes back from the dead AND has amnesia?)
Internal mismanagement (Sonic Team had to literally split itself in half so one team could work on his game and another could work on 06)
>playing in a manner that isn't fast runnin and jumpin
He's one of the ONLY Sonic characters to consistently do that in each of his appearances
in sonic 06 he spends an inordinate amount of time in clunky vehicles
His very own game is a third person shooter collectathon
This is half of his canon playable appearences.
whoops, actually its one fourth. I forgot sonic rivals. Nethertheless, he remains associated with it since Shadow the Game and Sonic 06 are indelible black marks on his history.
also I forgot sonic and the black knight. That's... two sevenths.
He's probably the best character outside of his shitty game most of the time. His game was cringe as fuck and after that he was only good in 06.
I enjoyed the Shadow the Hedgehog game in a campy, B-movie sort of way. It's best not taken seriously at all.
Best character in Sonic Battle though
>Runs faster than Sonic
>Jumps higher and travels farther than Tails
>Hits harder than Knuckles
I really want them to make another Sonic fighting game and include some of the newer characters like Blaze and Silver.
No, he's no worse than the entire cast
He's designed to make tweens think he's cool
t. ex-tween who thought he was cool
still kinda do tbqh
sonic rivals?
Sonic = Goku
Shadow = Vegeta
Tails = Krillin
Knuckles = Yamcha
Amy = Chi Chi
Rouge = Bulma
Silver = Piccolo
Blaze = Android 18
Eggman = Frieza
Chaos = Beerus
Chaos = Saibamen
Nope, in fact he's the only decent character along with robotnik/eggman.
Silver = Trunks actually.
Don't forget about Gamma.
That's a good point, but also means Silver is Shadow's kid.
going by that logic, Gamma is Android 16, Big is Yajirobe, Mighty is... Tien, Ray is... Oolong?,
Who would infinite be?
Would Omega be Nappa?
Silver is Trunks
Funnily enough, when Shadow was cast as Sir Lancelot in Sonic Black Knight, Silver was cast as Sir Galahad, Lancelot's son.
...
Nigga I don't know any characters past 06/Adventure.
I mean I agree, Silver fits Trunks perfectly but it doesn't make sense.
I think he would be remembered more fondly if they hadn't brought him back after SA2. He was supposed to sacrifice himself, but whoops I guess he's literally indestructible and is now a permanent member of Sonic's wacky animal friends.
>3rd person shooter
It's literally Sonic with a gun added to it
>Collectathon
That's the design of the game, not the character
It changes the genre and the focus of the game. You can't not associate him with the game that has his name on it.
>game has guns
>in third person
>much of the controls is dedicated around these guns, more so than platforming elements
>I can't even remember if you can spindash in that game
>every level is 100% linear, except for maybe 2 levels
It doesn't have to fit everything to a T, it just shows that Silver and Trunks play the exact same roles in their respective franchises.
If you REALLY want to make sense out of it, since we know Shadow doesn't age, who's to say he doesn't decide to finally have a kid 200 years in the future?
I find it notable that silver instantly performs chaos control perfectly the first time he tries, just by watching shadow do it. His telekinetic powers still go unexplained, but the only person with powers remotely similar to him is Shadow.
'ello reddit!
>Doesn't even control like a 3rd person shooter.
>Much of the controls is dedicated around these guns, more so than platforming elements
There's a shoot button and that's about it. There is also a spindash.
>Every level is 100% linear
There are a ton of levels in Shadow the Hedgehog that are open-ended. They're all shit, but they're open.
Pff. No, of course it isn't.
kids these days jump at the chance to spout "edgy" so they can be just like their favorite youtube e-celeb, but in truth, Shadow is and always has been pretty cool.
Eat shit.
Sonic did that, too.
The real question is how the fuck did anyone get him and Sonic confused in SA2?
This.
>Much of the controls is dedicated around these guns, more so than platforming elements
this is complete bullshit. you clearly haven't played the game, you little faggot.
I think it's safe to assume that, just like with Super forms, male hedgehogs (in the Modern games) are the only ones capable of using Chaos Control (not counting shit like Black Doom or any gadget Eggman invents to mimic Shadow's powers). It also seems Shadow's the only one who can use it without an emerald of any kind.
I've only ever seen him in SA2. He's great in that.
I know he's in Sonic 06 from watching a long play and he can't really be faulted for how anyone is portrayed in that game.
Source?
Sonic Universe #59-#62. Shadow Fall.
That's Emerl though
Silver fits Trunks because he's literally based on Trunks.
In case you didn't notice, Sonic apes a TON of shit from DBZ
How hype would his return in Generations be if he had been killed for good in SA2?
is he riding a tricycle?
