Because making your own engine is a terrible, awful idea 99% of the time. If you're not some forty billion dollar a game AAA dev it's much better to just license someone else's engine or use unity or something similar where you're much less likely to have issues and more likely to have people on your development team who are already familiar with the software.
Well that's a damn shame, because every time I play a game that isn't made by Rockstar all I can think about is how bad the physics are

I never understand the people who say IV was boring. It's one of those games where you have to make the fun for yourself during the missions and while free-roaming.
So in a sense, the people who didn't enjoy IV and other GTA's are just uncreative and boring

When you get used to them they are pretty responsive, you actually take control of the character in a way that very few games do, you actually feel like you are in charge and that skill does count.

I thought both IV and V were quite mediocre. What exactly is "making your own fun" about? Running over random people? I could do that in SA as well as have pretty damn good content all around. Sounds like a cop out for shit gameplay.
And no IV has some of the worst fucking missions in the series, the series went from invading military bases, chasing trains, stealing fighter jets and shit to driving slow trucks for the mob and just boring, mundane trash really.

This 100 times, I used to be obsessed with destruction and deformation in games as a kid, I loved burnout pretty much for that alone and I always imagined the future of games would be fully destructible buildings with proper material and liquid physics. Then we got Red Faction and I thought the future had arrived. Then we never got anything like it again, what a fucking let down. If Red Faction could run on a 360 imagine what a proper game like that would be like made for a modern PC.

I'm not gonna look up videos or explain to you what I do in free-roam on GTA, don't blame other people because you're not able to have fun in a sandbox world that gives you plenty of options. What do you look for in an open world game then? It still just sounds like you sped through the missions without exploring or experimenting and are now blaming the devs for making a boring game

I did explore, I found tons of deserted interiors with NOTHING inside, only to find out they'd be used for some mission and have nothing interesting in them at all. The weapons sound like shit, which is a tradition for GTA IV, cars drive like boats, protagonist just keeps whining all the time, and the friend system is an abortion. The climbing system is iffy and not as precise as SA's. The exploration of IV is just fucking garbage.

RDR was lacking compared to IV as well. IV was honestly pretty fucking amazing. The story was boring but everything else was great.
V has it, there's a mod to unlock it.

What about RDR's physics was inferior to GTA IV? I thought it was better in every way. One of my favorite euphoria powered moments in RDR was shooting an enemy in the gut, watching them drop their gun, stumble for a few steps, fall down, roll over onto their stomach, crawl around crying out for help, then eventually bleed out. Headshots would also rarely result in an enemy reaching for their face, stumble a bit while grasping at their head, then collapsing. I don't recall either of those kinds of animations being in GTA IV.

Why did they dumb down a lot of things? Like the magic police AI; V is neat in having them recognize specific cars / character description stuff even if it's probably a 0/1 variable with no actual complexity to it, but even the birds report you to the authorities and the cops magically seem to know where to find you so long as you don't hide a car with the lights off carefully. And they just sort of rarely come about, start spawning out of nowhere, and then despawn off-camera when they're done.
Also fuck the "people in the opposite lane constantly try to turn into your lane inconveniently to try to make chases more dynamic" shit.
This is all true. The climbing is clumsy in gta4 and not even remotely useful. Vaulting over fences feels glitchy and horrible. Looking back it's hard to even believe it's a rockstar game with how sloppy and weird the climbing animations are

Starts talking about RDR's use of the euphoria engine at 1:40. I believe it remains the best implementation of the euphoria engine to this day. Max Payne 3's was close, but still not as good as RDR.
Cops always knowing exactly where you are has been true for all GTA games though. The fact that you actually can hide in V so that cops at least take a little longer to find you is a step in the right direction if ever so small.
If RDR2's gunplay won't be as good as RDR1's or MP3's, I'll be very disappointed.
The first Force Unleashed was pretty fucking good, especially the Tatooine and Hoth missions.

There's literally an entire mission in the beginning of the game where you use it to scale a building.
You literally jump from rooftop to ledge and scale/shimmy along, something that's flat out impossible in GTA V.

It can be but that doesn't mean it's easy nor free. For most games physics being procesed on the GPU is very limited while the bulk of it is on CPU.

I thought Force Unleashed was really dull. Every fucking enemy was a damage sponge, which essentially turned all the combat into wailing on enemies with a stick; the main character was a twat designed for teenage edgelords, and almost every single usage of the Force was goofy as shit. From turning Force Push into a fucking hadouken, to some random Jedi dickwad effortlessly flinging endless TIE Fighters at you. It was Star Wars filtered through what a 13-year-old considers "totally epic, brah."
Tested for force unleashed, which also used euphoria. We had to make a new classification for bug, called a euphoria, which out numbered every other class of bug combined by a few thousand.
It's supposed to supplement a physics engine, but it doesn't plug into anything and is so bulky it wasn't feasible for the console hardware at that time (or for this time imo). Force Unleashed lost an entire combo system - light/heavy attack purely because of euphoria.
