Aww fuck. So what's the gist of them getting blown the fuck out?
elitists playing the witcher in its original language (Polish), but here its explained that the whole game is translated to cater every language/ translate local myths.
you wouldnt get all the polish culture references , thus they try to find the equal in your language/culture
theres no point in playing it in muh original language
While you're buying a new monitor ever 3/4 years due to the element failing, my one continues to put out the best colour.
>So what's the gist of them getting blown the fuck out?
there is no original language, all versions were worked on simultaneously - Polish version contains references and easter eggs that were aimed at Polish gamers, English version is slightly (not by much, but still) different and has slightly different references aimed at English speaking players, etc.
Basically, localization done right.
I've played in Polish because I'm from Poland and I did not like how Geralt sounded in English
Being a slav and playing through the entire trilogy with polish audio was pretty fun. I could understand roughly 20% of it, mostly obscenities.
Are you really so stupid? You do understand that literally every localization works the same way? Like, your fucking weeb games or whatever else you might think of, every single game gets localized when being translated.
And?
You just described localization.
This doesnt blow anything out, it opens the argument.
>its a Sup Forums discovers how dubbing works episode
I heard some bits of russian Geralt and what surprised me the most is explicit swearing. We dont get any in our media and stuff like this and Bad Company 2 put a big smile on my face, like I am 10 years old and heard a funny word.
Other than that, imagine every game being handles by monkeys who barely know english and every male voice actor is Liam O'Brian. Thats what most of the russian localisations are.
>would you like to buy a brick
kek
The problem with russian swearing is that it's pretty fucking offensive and using it too much is usually a sign of a really poor taste no matter what we're talking about. Dunno if this the same with polish.
So, standard localization
user, how old are you? Because you can't be that old if this is something new to you.
>implying a shit tier country like Russia deserves good localizations
grad,gorod - city
Russian WoW localisation is pretty good
Hitman is ok too youtu.be
>do an Arabic localization
>most Arab translators don't want to work on it because Yennifer's ass and all the different named gods offend them
>most fonts don't contain a character for "God""/"Allah" because it's taboo
>likely had to turn Toussant into the land of romance and non-alcoholic grape juice
>translators were late with their work because of how offensive the game was to them
Fucking hell I'm glad I'm not a Muslim. Golden Age Baghdad seems like it was fiction sometimes.
Really hate how Danny O'Dwyer is doing PR for a company that's just as bad as EA, Activision and Ubisoft with neverending crunch and nepotism
Anyone who doesn't play game or watch movie with it's original audio is fucking subhuman. Quality of translation doesn't matter.
That's because it is. Most of the major thinkers in the "Islamic Golden Age" were apostates and Greeks. Even the guy who came up with the concept for the Scientific Method was well received in the West but completely ignored by the Arabs.
It makes me feel bad for other countries. Imagine being Greek, basically if you don't know English you don't get games. Poor malakas.
>explicitly state that writers worked to write the script in each language rather than translating
>"translation is still bad"
It doesn't really matter to me that the major thinkers were Greek, the fact they were received in Bagdad was cool enough. Plus there were a lot of great artists and inventors from the period that were 100% Arab.
My point is that they were much more open and prosperous than any period thereafter.
>russian swearing is pretty offensive
could you please explain? I have no understanding of the language
holy shit that 13:30 part
maybe this is why other continents should just fuck off as a whole
Yes, it is. There is only one version of audio which fits the work. Playing in other is inferior and often doesn't make any sense or destroys atmosphere. It's like watching Captain America movie and hearing him speak in german. If you are playing Metro or Stalker you should play it in russian, Gothic in german, The Witcher in polish, Remember Me in french and naturally most games and movies in english.
I'm bilingual and you are full of shit.
that was just pr speech so people think their language matters when its written first on polish
You are just forced to learn English, as a result everyone can understand it.
Russian swearing is very emotional and strongly antagonizing. In Mankind Divided every second geogrian mobster was was calling MC "mudak", but in real life casually naming someone this way is a good way to get your teeth bashed in because it sounds very offensive, way more offensive than just a "moron" or "idiot".
Translating text is also subject to localization. Unless you actually understand the language, it's not the genuine article. Doesn't matter though. As long as the spirit of the thing is communicated properly, everything else is just minor details.
The english version of non japanese games is literally always the best one. And most of the time it is also the best version of japanese games.
>The english version of non japanese games is literally always the best one
>he says while Metro exists
>most of the time it is also the best version of japanese games
How can your taste be this bad?
