>part of the dev team for these games want on to make Beyond the Beyond.
How did they fuck that up so badly?
You actually did it you madman.
>Shining in the darkness
Didn't play it (Well that's not true I did but never beat it) But for some inexplicable reason I fucked loved Shining the Holy ark.
Shining Force > Fire Emblem
It's a pretty rough PnP crawler, I don't blame you.
Holy Ark was a fantastic game, makes me wish I still had a Saturn.
The only Shining game I remember playing were those ARPGs for GBA
Shining Soul? 2 was alright.
...
2 was, yeah
One wasn't as fun
I remember you could go to the bonfire in the hub area and grind your fire resistance just by staying on top of it
Played some of them on that Genesis collection but data got lost.
Played that one for SEGA Game Gear cause it happened to be on the 3DS.
And played that GBA game.
I want more of this series.
There's 3 for the Saturn. Last two parts of it have a translation patch.
Yeah, I enjoyed those and Warsong. Genesis was great for tactical rpgs. I moved to PC in 1994 though, so Shining Force was the last one I played.
I was always too retarded to get into this series? What's it like between this one and Fire Emblem in terms of map design and combat?
2 was way better, yeah. 1 was a mess.
>mfw find the hidden chests in the walls for anri and tao
Tao is still one of my favorites. Odd how for a few battles, your mages become the most powerful physical attackers on the team then go back to magic only. I liked that.
Rouen
&
Duga
I still haven't played through and maxed out the healers in the first Shining Force game. Or even played through Shining Force 2, for that matter. Steam keeps deleting my saved game files for some reason.
>Shining Force
>Warsong
What other SRPGs existed on the Genesis?
>shining in the darkness
Man i remember when i thaught that first person dungeon crawler was the shit
>Shining Force
I also remember one specific entry where there were two guys who i guess were centaurs? I got stuck in a mission where you assault a place with bandits but to get back to the Castle you are supposed to go you have to win another battle right after the last one and that allways got me
probably just those, and Shining Force 2.
Langrisser 2, but that was Japan only.
There's Langrisser 2 Master of Monsters if you count the Sega CD add on there's Dark wizard. There's Vixen 357 which is pretty much Langrisser but with Mecha. Then there's more tactical then RPG games like The Hybrid Front. Right off the top of my head.
Some of these were nipland only though. It's funny. The Genesis didn't really have many traditional RPGs. But it had quite a few SRPG/Tactics games
FEDA: Emblem of Justice, but I think that's Japan-only as well.
As well as SNES-only.
were these the first games of their kind to be all about the horse pussy?
Shining Force 2 and Shining The Holy Ark are two of my favorite games. I wished Sega would gave used Fire Emblem's new popularity in order to revive SF as well.
It's a "former boss becomes playable later but lose its stats, it's beautiful voice, and its voice in the process, ready to get shelved forever"
I was literally mad.
Truth.
I think Langrisser was translated a few months ago.
>Warsong
Warsong is one of the goat games in the SRPG genre.
I really enjoyed the GBA game but couldn't play the rest of the series. Apparently the GBA remake added the really neat feature of having all your companions have extensive background dialogue if you talk to them between battles, and none of the other games had that. I tried playing some of the other Shining Force games but they all felt too lifeless without that added detail. Resurrection of the Dark Dragon is great though, I should replay it at some point since I missed recruiting a few characters.
Was it? I know 2 and 4 have complete fan translations. 3 has a partial one. Or did you somehow Vixen mixed in there (Which is understandable like I said it's Langrisser with mechs)
SNES, not Genesis. Its translation patch is adequate, though.
>sega
>utilizing any of their IPs except sonic
user
>tfw discovering Duga's doujins
There's lots of centaurs in Shining Force games.
Shining Force I & II are still to this day some of my favourite games ever.
The sole fact that they're cities to explore puts them over FFT, FE and other tactics ogre like games where maps and cities are just basically checklists.
Fuck what they've done with the franchise.
>the team will never come back to make another classic era Shining game
>there will NEVER EVER be an officially translated Scenario 2 and 3 of SFIII
>there will N E V E R E V E R be a Shining Force Collection with all the Shining games up to 1998
I'd kill for a SF collection. Fug.
>tfw finding a secret character in a town
>inspecting signs and such to see what was on them
I wish that more SRPGs would do this.
Bump
I'm sure PC98 had some.
Well now Camelot is relegated to Mario sports.
>sega's entire schtick is porting ancient as games to PC many eons after console lords had them
>they won't ever port games that could actually benefit from them, like JSRF, the Panzer Dragoon games, or Shining Force 3 (which the west only got part 1 of)
Post your favorite shining force waifu's
Which Langrisser?
KOEI games, but they are multiplat.
Also PC version of first Langrisser is translated in english.
So are these games actually good? I played the first one on genesis and fucking everything seemed random. It just seems like a even more bullshit Fire Emblem.
Fucking this. If they released something like that I'd buy 10 copies.
Yes I do and no joke the Shinning Soul games were like Dark Souls made for GBA.
Fucking desert level gives me nightmares to this day.
>mfw I played through the game like 10 times when I was 8
>found all the secret characters
>still didn't find out about Tao and Anri's bathing suits until I was in college
Tao is cute but Masqurin will forever be best Shining Force girl. PLUS shes actually a really good unit.
>Blaze
>Bolt
>Attack buff
That is bar none the best fucking spell selection of any game in the series.
I love Kate!
What about these

The what now ? Childhood ruined :(
Man, I remember playing the shit out of Shining Force 2 when I was a kid.
Back then I didn't understand a lot of English, and got stuck on the part where you had to find Achilles Sword. Never one to give up, I just grinded on availble maps or started from the beginning. Only when I came back o it in middle school I managed to finish it.
Also, these days I'm mostly replaying it with Obob's hack.
Fuck man same here. I got stuck there for like a month, but I still played the fucking game for like 4-5 hours a day either grinding or just walking around the town. It got to the point where I could solo one of those random battles with Bowie.
You posted her
I found Tao's but never managed to find Anri's
Both of the clothing's are in Chapter 3
Tao's Swimsuit is in the Quarry, Anri's alt clothings is on the Laser Eye battle next to the 3 Archers, near the middle of the bridge
Golden sun was a solid spiritual successor. I kind of wish strategy RPGs and basic turn based JRPGs had a bastard offspring where movement was still dictated but the arenas were smaller and movement was mostly just for positioning out of enemy aoe and tanking.
Would make for more interesting combat than standard turn taking and might attract people who hate how slow turn based strategy is.
Uh m8, they have those already. Check out the mega man battle network games or even the Arc the Lad series. Hell bahamaut lagoon too. That was really cool as your mages could do shit like freeze rivers or burn down forests.
Too few and far between. Would be nice for more experimentation and variety in the model which only really comes from gaining mainstream traction.
I'd get 11
bump
>tfw BN is dead
...
...
Wow, it branched out into Fighting games?
>Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena
youtube.com
Yep.
Like most games it's dead. And not very good. It was also the first Shining game since EXA we got
Now that's an obscure waifu. I don't think there's any art of Gaiden 2, which is a shame. Deanna and Natasha were cute
You already posted her, Tao was literally my first waifu ever.
Shining Force gave me a lot of emergent gameplay moments that I had never really seen in an RPG before. I wasn't playing well early in the game, and my entire team went down except for that one old dwarf who joins you. He proceeded to kill every. single. remaining enemy and surviving until the end of the stage. Just too fucking stubborn to die.
Also, the ending of the first one was metal as fuck, when the protagonist teleports out the whole team using his "retreat from battle" command and stays behind to ensure that the monster dies.
I played Shining in the Darkness and Shining Force every Sunday with my dad before I went to church and I loved them. Huge nostalgia trip for me now. Also played Shining the Holy Ark, which was the best dungeon crawler I've played, and Shining Wisdom which....certainly existed.
If you miss the games, a guy called MarauderEX does play throughs of the games, and dude knows his shit about them. Worth a watch if you can stomach Lets Plays.
A true patrician!
>Shining Wisdom which....certainly existed.
Join the club you can be the second person to ever actually play Wisdom
Shining Force and Shining in the Darkness were mediocre at best, it's really no loss. I haven't bothered playing the newer games but at least taka's art looks good. Horsefuckers are cancer.
Anyone have that comfy game manual art of the group chilling at a bonfire from the first Shining Force? I loved that stuff. Warrior girl centaur picking a fight with the MC's childhood best friend cleric. Cute animal girl archer playing a lute while people cheer. And the MC off to the side, not interacting, just smiling at his team.
Mae sure looks cute there.
He actually just ditched them to go live as a farmboy with Adam after making them think he died a hero.
I played Fire Emblem thinking it would be a good replacement for the lack of Shining Force games. It wasnt.
Let's be realistic, Camelot Shining games are never coming back, they're 2nd party to Nintendo now churning out the sports games. Also having said that, Taka Tony Shining games aren't that bad either, they're just about more or less neptuna games but with far less prop recycles.
...
A fucking shining force thread on Sup Forums, fuck I was just about to sleep. Did anyone play Shining Force CD? I tried emulating it but the load times, hickups and shitty music put me off. Is the game worth playing?
Are Tactical RPGs even a thing anymore? They were pretty common in the 90s.
due to the remake I can headcanon that max was mad gay and didn't want any horsepussy but was too awkward to tell her
...
but adam's a robot and he went to work at a lizardman's farm
Where did you get this? All I can find are the pics from the manual.
just a random result from google. i didn't pay attention enough to know from where
I would presume the horses on a farm would not be trying to fuck him
You mean besides what Fire Emblem has turned in to? Fuck if I know, probably a bunch of low budget indy and weeaboo games.
Have any of the newer shining games been localized? Since EXA anyway. I played EXA and the first one, and while the first one was pretty shitty EXA was... well it was better I guess.
They still make shining games right? They just arent srpgs anymore and they dont localize them?
Blade Arcus was localized over here.
I started it once... it was kind of cool seeing a lot of the assets used in SF2 in there. I don't remember there being bad load times but yeah the music was weird. Its like they didn't know how to loop it properly. There was a span of like 6-7 seconds of silence before the music starts again when it loops.
>The first Shining game Sega localizes in 10 years
>Its a crossover featuring characters that no one in the western world knows about
I already knew Sega were fucking retarded but, its like they feel the need to remind everyone from time to time.
>never heard about this until this thread
>look it up
>its a fighting game
And another game I won't touch. Back to shining force 2 for me.
...
Your only options these days are either 1) low budget no-name western indy trash, 2) low budget no-name Vita weeaboo trash, 3) no-budget mobile trash, 4) Fire Emblem.
...
...
Same. Sacred Stones isn't bad though.
I just hope we get some decent fantasy setting games again someday. It's been a while.
When I was younger the centaur thing completely turned me off. Post-puberty I think it's really hot.
Shining Force 2 was awesome. Those master monk chicks, god DAMN.
>can't use or level your melee-only main character because putting him near the front lines puts you at risk of losing the fight in one move
Shining Force made me want to fuck a centaur girl.
Also 1 and 2, and the remake of 1 are really fun. Never played 3 though.
