>best sonic game in a while comes out >omg 11/10 on first week, do 2 playthroughs then stop for a bit as to not burn out >still play a little every other day the next 2 weeks after launch >then it gets less and less >last played on september 10th now, really no urge to come back
Its a good game but 2D sonic just feels boring to me. They really need to start putting ranking systems in the 2D games again like Rush did. Meanwhile i have been coming back to sonic adventure 2 and heroes for 15 years now because the levels are bigger and the rewards for doing well are more fun. Anyone else feel me? This is kinda evident since threads have completely stopped to
Ian Sanders
mania is the most rewarding sonic to master considering how well you can keep your speed going in that game if you're good, drop dash revolutionizes the game
Asher Morris
Yeah but the enemies are big variables that matter each time. Ive been top 100 in all levels on xb1 and switch and top 50 in like half (probably gone now, this was back in the first week of september) and it just isnt that fun. Speed running in 3D sonic is more fun for me because you are not only racing for time, but to do everything stylishly to get an A/S rank
Carter Green
It really is boring OP I honestly never even finished it, I havent played since I reached titan monarch, this was like early september.
I think it's the lack of level select and debug, I wouldn't still be playing sonic 2 and 3 and knuckles if they didnt have cheats
Gavin Adams
Sonic Adventure 2 was the best execution of padding in the Sonic series. The game itself doesn't take long to beat but you're given missions in each stage that require you to master the level. It's also the best execution of the rating system, doing tricks actually meant something. The amount of time it takes to get all 180 emblems is apart of the overall experience.
Josiah Richardson
You only have yourself to blame for burning yourself out. The game's still great and it's joining my yearly play through list next to S3&K.
Cooper Anderson
Why do you say yearly playthrough as if it means anything for a 2-3 hour game? Thats not the point. If i could come back to adventure 2 and heroes to grind for A ranks for years later then the supposed best sonic game should be the same. 2D sonic just isnt as fun as 3D, thats the point
John Moore
Debug mode and level select are unlockable by dude.
Ryan Cox
>grinding for A ranks >fun
Brayden Watson
the only reason why it got boring is because you've already played 60% of the game two decades ago
thanks again for that Iizuka
>but he's the one who okayed it in the first place
that doesn't mean he shouldn't get called on his "we need to include old Zones for nostalgia insurance in case Mania flops" bullshit
Matthew Perry
Some people like completing a game 100% in 3 hours while others like grinding A ranks for hours on end. Comparing 2d Sonic to 3d Sonic always made no sense to me. They're two different beasts and the main reason Mania is so well regarded is because it's zero bullshit you can complete it in a single session just like 3&K
Lincoln Young
It is fun. Im thinking a straight playthrough of most sonic games is 3-5 hours, but you dont always want to do a whole playthrough. You want to do some levels, then quit. Thats the nature of sonic and every sonic game is great at this. The level design and challenge in sonic games has been really simplified since colors and the series is just getting more boring because of it. Not even the achievements are hard anymore, i got all of sonic 4s in 1 day, and generations and mania in 3 days. Mania is a damn good game but it just doesnt do much for me, thats the odd part. I just wish another meaty 3D game could come out again, like adventure 2 or unleashed.
Jonathan Green
It's really good but the lack of a strong identity kinda bothers me. It's just a "best of" Sonic. Which is fine I guess but it doesn't stand out to me as a game like 3&K which provided that unique experience FIRST. If you played Sonic Mania first 3&K wouldn't seem so great but eh.
Christian Nelson
Sonic's practically a budget title now. Why do you think Forces looks the way it is and it's only $40? until Sonic sells well again you'll never get a meaty 3D game again. Comparing the visual presentation of Unleashed to Forces is crazy, a 9 year old game shouldn't look better.
Jordan Brooks
Another one of these threads huh.
Kayden Howard
>having a grand old time playing through the levels >get to Oil Ocean
Ryan Ramirez
>The amount of time it takes to get all 180 emblems is apart of the overall experience.
Fuck those driving levels for Tails and Rouge though. Getting A ranks for those was frustrating.
Cooper James
>Aqua Road music in Sonic Forces is amazing >Sonic Forces sucks dick JUST It's such a shame that great music like this gets stuck in trash games like this
Justin Scott
That's not the only flaw with Mania Mania doesn't have enough variety in terms of level design structure and all the levels feel the same...add that to the fact that the zones are also pretty lengthy and it makes for some really tiring gameplay...if the levels were as short as in Sonic 2 it wouldn't be a problem but they're not.
Also the fact that Mania reuses a lot of chunks of the original level maps instead of making the level layouts completely new also makes them feel lazy.
Camden Morris
Sonic has pretty much always been low-mid budget as i see it, the only exception being unleashed. That game had a crazy amount of polish, graphical bells and whistles, attential to detail, content, scope and so on. But this was necessary as an apology for 2006. I cant ask for an unleashed 2 or games like it, that will never happen. But they just used to be smarter with the content they had and made extra challenges as seen in sa2, heroes, 06, and unleashed (through side acts, dlc, and town quests etc)
Now we just have a basic act 1 and then some weak missions at best on the side (generations, lost world)
Connor Carter
>Sonic has pretty much always been low-mid budget as i see it Not with Sonic 1/2/CD/3K/Chaotix it wasn't Not with the Adventure games or Heroes either Not with '06 etc.
Jackson Flores
Also forgot games like Secret Rings, Black Knight and Colors on the Wii which were all top-tier technically great looking games on the Wii with Colors possibly being the best looking game on the system.
Noah Diaz
All of those are mid budget at best except maybe sa1 and 06
Christian Powell
No they weren't you fucking nu-male retard Sonic 1/2/3K/CD/Chaotix were all high budget games for the time
Fuck sake 3K in particular had 13 composers including MJ working on it + other 3rd party composers. If that's not high budget I don't know what is.
