Why is it called Ys 7?

But it's not user, can't you read?
It's called Ys Seven
Because it's the seventh game.
You're right it should be called Ys IIIIIII
Reaching your seventh installment is a pretty big thing in Japan, I hear. It's why Mario Kart suddenly started numbering the games, Puyo Puyo and Medabots despite having dropped the linear numbering went to a proper number for the seventh mainline game, and Ys had Ys SEVEN instead of Ys VII: Thing in/of/from Place.
Mario Kart 7 is like the 10th game in the series though. And there's two 8s. Ys also didn't call Ys 8 that. They went back to the normal naming scheme. I'm just curious
It's seven that's important, not eight. That's when you get to say "holy shit motherfucker, we're at our SEVENTH fucking installment! We must be some hot shit!". At eight, it's business as usual.
Also 7 was the seventh Mario Kart actually developed by Nintendo at the time. Arcade spin-offs made by Namco aren't mainline.
>At eight, it's business as usual.
That and they knew VII was mediocre so no reason to get excited about it.
7 was pretty damn good?
I assume it's the 7th game
It was better then Celceta and 8 anyway.
>Celceta
Agree
>8
No. Backtracking, unsatisfying boss fight, silly betrayal, etc.
As long as we can all agree it beats a day at the circus
Seven was the only one in the series I stopped playing part way through, it was boring as hell. Celceta was pretty good. 8 Had the whole actually experience the end of a civilization thing going for it, though it was a bit far into the game before you got to experience that.
more like kys xD
It's called Ys ζ' Seven you mong
How do you pronounce the name of the game?
Is it "Whys"? Or as I've heard "Yeees"? Or maybe just "Eeees"?
en.wikipedia.org
The mythical city on the hill
You know I never thought about it before. I always said it uhhhhs
>silly betrayal
You say that, but then there was that whole out of place development at the end of Chapter 2 in 8. That was fucking dumb, and a really weak excuse for a human boss fight. Which was also kind of shit.
its pronounced iss
イース
>Which was also kind of shit.
Better then Celceta's. And was actually kinda hard.
I dunno, I barely remember Celceta's either. They're all kind of weak compared to Chester, Kishgal and all the other ones from Felghana and Origin.
...
there are only 8 mainline Mario Karts. the rest are arcade titles made by Namco or the Switch port of 8.
In what order should I play Y's if I want to get into the series?
Do I need to play some old ass games (I wouldn't mind btw) or are these all remaked?
does that one come before or after dark souls IIII
Don't you guys think that Seven, Celceta and VIII are too different to properly compare? Not just narratively, but mechanically as well. Aside from sharing the party system and combat mechanics (with VIII being the only game to not have a fixed camera), they all expect completely different things of you.
>7 - travel across the world map, complete dungeons for bosses, then return to the boss altar around mid game and access new area
>celceta - constantly move forward from one area to the next, with only two dungeons in the entire game and an arbitrary weapon/armor crafting system
>VIII - explore around the village, unlocking areas as the village grows, with defense missions and fishing and shit
they don't feel the same to me at all
they all have fun remakes except ys 5, don't bother with that one
>Do I need to play some old ass games (I wouldn't mind btw)
The only one of those you should play over the modern remake is pic related, otherwise there's no need to unless you just want to experience Falcom's old mistakes like Wanderers from Ys
But for the most part, release order is best
Last one is the closest, just shake off an E or two.
