Allow me to break down a few problems the game suffers from in terms of PvE, which is the Fortnite game mode. Battle Royale is PUBG, but not exactly and is thus irrelevant to my interests.
>Combat
Combat itself is quite simple. Point, shoot/swing weapon, enemy is hurt. Weapons fire where you aim. Shotguns are good at medium to close range, Rifles at medium range, pistols at medium to far range, Snipers at far range, melee at melee range, there are some exceptions since there are myriad specialized weapons.
>Items
Weapons, Traps, People, heroes, Defenders, and consumables. Their main acquisition method is through Loot Llamas, a type of loot box thing that costs Freemium currency. You play the heroes, equip the People like gear in an MMO, use Defenders as stand-ins for human players (they fucking suck though and just serve to drain your resources more than anything), use weapons and traps to kill shit. Consumables include EXP boosters and the like. The itemization in this game is fucking awful due to a conjunction of item rarities, randomized rolls on weapons, traps, and defenders, the fact only a select few weapons are actually very good, and the fact the game expects you to either grind for MONTHS for good gear or pay out the ass.
>Experience
There are 4 types of EXP in this game, Account, Schematic, Hero, and Survivor. Account is earned every time you finish a match. The other 3 are a consumable reward received in various quantities from Mini Llamas (the free version of Loot Llamas) and Missions. They are used to upgrade all your shit. You need an inordinate amount of the stuff to reach reasonable levels of stuff to do at-level content.
>Missions
A variety of missions, most boil down to "build around target, protect target for some time." There's only one very shitty mission type called Repair the Shelter.

The gameplay examples I saw made the structure look boring as hell. Run around, find a generator, build some shitty tower around it to protect it, then fight a "horde" of 10 zombies at a time for 7 minutes, then go do it again.
