No sex fanservice. Very little story. plenty of challenge modes. No ridley fight. Give us a break from that lizard. 60 FPS, keyboard and mouse compatibility (or at least some control scheme that isn't that piece of garbage gyro). Linearity that breaks into non-linearity after about an 30 minutes of gameplay. new items if possible, new environments.

I'm hoping that this new studio that's working on Prime 4 will make the franchise fresh again much like what Retro did 15 years ago

Also, I remember the official MP4 press release said that it will bring back the isolation from the original Metroid Prime, so I doubt you'll have to worry too much about there being an overbearing story; isolation means no characters.

The first Prime was perfect with this. No zero suit at the end, and it was very respectful to her character. More importantly, they had to actually give us something cool for the secret ending, instead of eye candy.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the Zero Suit being shown at the end. It's a tradition of the series.

It's a false tradition that needs to be thrown out. Samus shouldn't be treated like a piece of meat anymore. She should be given the respect she deserves as a bounty hunter.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the Zero Suit. It didn't cause Other M to exist, either.
I think Other M is criminally underrated. I think it's one of the worst Metroids, but I don't think it's complete trash like a lot of people make it seem. I just played through every game in the series recently, and I found Other M Samus' characterization to be pretty interesting. The Ridley breakdown scene is pretty weird, but the rest of it is quite well done. If you say that Samus needs to be treated with respect, then I also think people should respect her official characterization. Saying that she felt belittled and masculinized by her service in the Federation, and that she respected Adam for giving her a "delicate" and feminine nickname is fascinating to me.

There's a woman under the suit. There's a character under the suit. People like to act like Samus is just this generic badass suit, but Other M tells us otherwise, even if we don't see it in other games.

Let the "Zero Suit and Other M ruined Metroid" meme die. I also think it has the single best Samus design in the series. I think Jessica Martin did a fantastic job portraying Samus, as well; she sounded just cold and robotic enough in her monologues that you could tell she's been doing this for a long time, and just emotional enough when she needed to.

Despite the praise I'm giving it, I still think its gameplay is botched due to a fixed camera angle, and it doesn't have enough depth to its combat. I just think it's underrated, is all.

I never said this was "the best characterization to happen in Metroid". I said the background of Samus was good; her relationship with Adam and her past. The events of the game were botched like I said with the Ridley encounter. Not having access to your weapons is ridiculous, as well. I'm not shitposting or anything like that. I just liked the way she was handled in general. She clearly had a lot of respect for Adam, and the authorization idea, while stupid, does a good job of translating that into gameplay.

And nah, I hate Gone Home and Uncharted.

You mean the fact that, according to Other M, the dynamic between Samus and Adam was that of dominant and submissive? Because that's exactly how it was portrayed. Adam was the dominant one, Samus was the submissive one.

Everything you just said happens during the events of the game, and not the background, like I said.
I said twice that the events of the game were done poorly, but the background events were good, such as Adam sacrificing his brother, causing Samus to resign from her duties, and causing Adam to become bitter and distant. I think it's all pretty good; the events of the game, however, are less than stellar.

Anyone can act a certain way, and think another way. We can't say whether or not Samus is submissive or not in other games, because she's never around other characters; she's merely hunting bounties and saving the universe. There's not much room for characterization in that.

Other M had characters, but Samus knew none of them, and chose to keep her mouth shut throughout the entire thing. Adam and Samus had a long and complex relationship. I don't think Samus being submissive to Adam degrades her character. It's just the way she, as a character, is. Canonically, I might add.

Ah, you mean a brother we neither knew nor cared about, thus making this sacrifice meaningless? Adam becoming bitter and distant, as opposed to any other time when he was still bitter and distant, even when he dies? The death literally changed nothing. We have to be told, by Samus, that he's this amazing leader, yet he's an idiot who keeps screwing up. That is terrible storytelling when you have to be outright told what to feel. And for all we know, Samus is talking like an abused housewife, playing up Adam's positive sides while he shoots and beats her silly.

It's still canon with the updated timeline bundled with the SNES Classic, along with the Prime games. The line about "the first joint mission since becoming a freelance bounty hunter" must've slipped through, but the game is very much canon.

What exactly is the game canon to when it retcons every other game in the series?
Like, for real. It's either Other M is canon or the rest of the series is canon. Remember that according to Other M, Space Pirates become inbred retards when Mother Brain is dead, and since Other M takes place after Super, it's implied that the Space Pirates would not have had the mental facilities to be able to rebuild after the destruction of Mother Brain in Metroid 1.

I love the music from Prime 3, but it's not as good as the others, honestly. It's a lot more based on actual instruments than the funky techno bullshit we got in Prime 1 and Prime 2, and I think that fits Metroid much better. That said, I still enjoy it.

Fits Metroid better, in my opinion. Prime 3's soundtrack feels like it would fit well with Zelda. It doesn't feel distinctly "Metroid" like Prime 1 and 2 do. I still love it, though.

No, it's what Other M told me, and it took him 7 years to backpedal and try to undo his horrific disaster that was OM. Other M retconned Super because Samus actually kills Mother Brain without suffering from PTSD every 5 seconds and crying. OM establishes that Samus can never do that because she's too emotionally broken.

Hold on fellas. I didn't say Samus Returns was bad, just that people focusing on MUH LORE are completely forgetting that gameplay has to come first. And SR's flaws are quite numerous and the chozo memories do not fix them, while AM2R's issue is that there's too little story, but that never hampers the gameplay. Not that'd I'd call SR cinematic or anything, just that the priorities seem skewed.

I get what you're saying, too. On the whole, though, the core exploration songs that play when you're out in the areas is much less melodic. The Pirate Homeworld and Bryyo songs are the only two songs from Prime 3 that sound Metroid-ish to me.

Just replayed Super from start to finish again last month.
Maridia is a slog. It's just that slow and boring.
Ironically, Maridia is the biggest zone, but requires the least amount of pathing to obtain the necessary equipment to beat the game, making it, potentially, the shortest zone.
