Why does this game get so much hate here? It sold way more than any recent fighting game, ranked matches take seconds between each other, lobbies always fill up quickly, steady stream of new characters, stages, and arms, and the developers listen and every update has only made the game better. I play ARMS almost every day and I still have fun

>Why does this game get so much hate here? It sold way more than any recent fighting game
You pretty much answered your own question.
It's a system exclusive title that still outsold more established franchises.
It's boring and has no content. Still love the character designs, though. Will check out the comic when it comes out.
>has no content
The content is fighting other people and climbing the ranks in a journey to be the best, just like every other fighting game. Story modes and other bullshit do not make a fighting game good.
The game makes it seem like motion controls are pretty much required, and it's default control scheme sucks dick.
Once I actually bound block to the left trigger and punching to ZL and ZR, the game became so much fucking better.
Nobody that played this game in any kind of seriousness plays with motion controls but I'd say its the same difference as arcade stick vs. pad. Arcade stick is preferred for most but there are plenty that make pad work. The best thing is that the controls are now fully customizable.
Lacks in single player content.
>Once I actually bound block to the left trigger and punching to ZL and ZR, the game became so much fucking better.
You can do that?
The last patch lets your rebind controls.
Its you and those smash fags that can't comprehend a piece of software outside of the plastic in your hands and the monitor keeping you consuming. For fuck sakes its a small pool of mechanics that add up to same balancing as the % styling, I.E not competitive when the competition all comprehends a small pool reciprocating mechanics.
What the fuck do you think the FGC is Sports? Fuck no we don't want to kick around the same ball just getting strong legs. There aint no teammates in fighitng games so indiviudal skillsets get pupular, but the truth is High maintenance skillsets that take hours of training actually kill fighting games, its the exchange of that time for creativity is what makes these things worth a damn.
Nobody cared to watch Ryu throw his 1000th hadouken, people don't care to watch nintentards flail their arms for hours.
which literally doesnt matter
For the price they're charging there should be a full scale story mode and more.
It does matter when it's basically a boxing game.
Every time I play this/watch "high level" matches, I just feel like I'd have more fun playing Virtual On instead. It's just a downgrade of VO in every way.
Hate?
Shitposters are everywhere, it got more love than most of the games here
Yep.
Still don't know why would you bind it to trigger, I bound it to B with X and Y for jump and dash, you never have to press block and those anyway.
But yes the motion controls are horrid.
What the fuck are you smoking? It didn't outsell Injustice 2 or Tekken 7 this year.
Fucking nintenbros lie to make their shit IP seem better. It was average with not enough depth to be competitive and nothing to get interest for casual fans. Get over it.
Also to slap all that lore on the Twitter and then give us nothing story-wise in game is shameful.
...
The game would be legit great if it had a story mode or more minigames
I do enjoy it. But there's just not much there at the moment. I want more characters and stages. We probably won't have 20 'til 2020 at this rate. If the decide to support the game that long
Do you have reading comprehension problems?
>it sold way more than any recent fighting game
Arms last repot 1.18 million
Tekken 7 2 million
Injustice 2 was the highest grossing game of Q2 (no release yet but it sold more than Horizon which is at 3.4 million)
...
Personally the only appeal I've got from the game were the visuals and nothing else.
And the same goes for Splatoon, which is a real bummer.
WOO OHHHHHHHH HOOOOOOOO WO HOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
1-2-Switch sold over a million units but it's shit. The same goes to this game. There are reasons why the community is dying despite the noteworthy sales figure.
Casuals and Nintendo fans think the game is too hard, not to mention Splatoon 2 being the main multiplayer game on Switch. Veteran FGs think the game is casualized, has puddle-depth """""fighting""""" mechanics, and lacking contents.
>There are reasons why the community is dying despite the noteworthy sales figure.
>ranked matches only take seconds to find
>ARMS Discord is still active with lots of members
>lots of online and offline tournaments planned in the next couple months with EVO Japan coming in January
Ok, if you say so
As much as I'd like a story mode, you aren't playing a fighting game for the story dumbass. You're playing for the sake of fighting others, you could sink way more hours climbing the rank ladder compared to playing a large-scale singleplayer game like Breath of the Wild.
>you could sink way more hours climbing the rank ladder compared to playing a large-scale singleplayer game like Breath of the Wild.
Lol, I can barely play this game for 10 minutes at a time.
So? Who cares about what you think? There are clearly people who still enjoy the game so it clearly ain't dead.
DLC characters and stages are free instead of $8 apiece so not really
>It sold way more than any recent fighting game
Did it? I doubt it would've ever surpassed Injustice 2 or even Tekken 7 in that regard.
What's your current rank? I'm sitting on the edge dwindling between 16 and 17.
Rushdown Springman is my kryptonite.
you do know that not one american tournament has it as a main game some do not even have it as a side tournament. EVO Japan has it as a free entry to try to get some free publicity.
I'm a rank 17 Helix, I use a Blorb + Phoenix combo. Springman and Kid Cobra are my one weakness. Springman's reflect really needs a nerf, it's way too easy to spam.
No ones asking for it to be main game material and as much as I like the game its not at that level yet.
Because it's a disappointment how boring the matches are
This is how you tell who a shitter is.
>Low-level play = shitters play defensively, think they can run the timer
>high-level play = nothing but aggression. You aren't going to go anywhere if you keep playing defensively because being rushdown is very easy to do given how good dashing is.
You care. And I didn't say it was dead, even though it is.
it never will be the point is do not use evo japan as a positive, thats a negative
How is it a negative? Arms is fairly popular in Japan, and Yabuki always holds a tournament monthly that showcase high level play.
>More exposure is a negative
Whatever you say, buddy. This is the mentality of shit posters
>sold more
SFV sold around 2 million copies.
Injustice 2 sold more than that.
Even Tekken sold more than Arms.
>sales means it's good
The game sucks, it is a glorified Wii boxing.
>free tournament where every other tournament cost money to enter
how do you not see that as a negative, that is like what they do for betas not fully released games
its was a budget game at full price that for many was just a filler game till splatoon 2
Arms is way more enjoyable than Splatoon 2 because I don't have to depend on shitty teammates, especially on ranked matches. There's way more satisfaction in winning matches and feeling that you can blame yourself for losing.
>People that are passionate about a game enter a tournament because they like it, regardless of the payout
Its almost like people want to play the game because they like it. The first years of EVO didnt have any buy in or pay out, just a bunch of people wanting to see who was the best at SF2.
Not fantastic, not horrible, just a fun little thing to flail at every so often. I don't like to dilute things into review scores, but to avoid posting several paragraphs I'd say it's a solid 7/10.
By the time I hit Vampire King this last Splatfest I wasn't even mad at my shit teammates anymore, I was just utterly defeated.
That's just Turf War, but still, even Ranked has some of the most brain-dead, Tunnel-Visioning, "Ouch"-ignoring idiots that I will never understand how they got to S+.
I haven't touched splatoon in forever. I remember getting burnt out from the first splatoon and played very briefly in the big update before calling it quits. I can't bring myself to play 2 because its way too frustrating. I guess team shooters aren't for me.
I like it alot myself.
Perhaps my favorite new IP of 2017.
Because the actual fighting mechanics are far too barebones and the game lends itself to turtle and timeout heavy approaches. The alternate game modes are okay but wear out their welcome kinda quickly. I like the idea and the gameplay COULD be good, but it needs a sequel to refine things before I'd consider buying anything in the series.
ARMS is fun, but the sales thing is false. Injustice and Mortal Kombat games clean house sales wise. It beating Capcom games is big, but those games are are failing terribly to meet their projected goals. ARMS biggest problem is that while it is a fighting game, it isn't a fighting game that appeals to fighting game players. Something like Guitly Gear is cool to Street Fighter players because all of it's mechanics are very familiar and easy to grasp. No one fucking plays Guilty Gear, but it is able to at least garner respect. ARMS is really its own thing and the biggest fanbase it is drawing from is Nintendo fans. Those guys are casual as fuck and have never played a traditional fighting game before in their lives. Very few of them will actually stick around to get good at the game. So Nintenbros are fair weather fans, Sony drones shit post it on sight, and so do kappa tards. ARMS fans really just have themselves in their own little weird niche. Most of them will play ranked with each other, and the select fraction of a minority of Smash and FGC players who also dig the game will try to help push it competitively. It's cool, but it's going to stay niche as fuck unless ARMS Super Turbo comes around with a huge overhaul on everything to attract more people.
You are obviously don't even know how to play the game, considering that lower ranked players always play more defensively. Higher ranks require you to play offensively and rushdown, otherwise you will get overwhelmed easily. Time outs become a rarity once you get to rank 16.
